I've worked with old people and they're awesome. It's been very satisfying to know you're making a difference in their life, and you do bond with them. I'd much rather work with old people than kids.. not that I have anything against kids, but the old people you get to hear their stories, their lives, and we are all like them, just younger. Getting old is a privilege not everyone gets to experience. I once asked a lady in my care at the time what piece of advice she would give to younger people, and she said "just do it, don't look back and just do it" and I thought that was so great. The vast majority of carers I have worked with are like this lady in the video, with genuine compassion and enjoy their work. And some day all of you if you are lucky enough to live that long, will be old and will still be you, just perhaps with a body that makes it harder to get around, or a mind that doesn't remember everything.
It's all great if that's what you enjoy but I'd rather work with animals. At least they appreciate your kindness. They don't make sexist or racist remarks, they don't call you derogatory names or look down on you. Just my opinion

I worked in health care (nursing). The day would start at 8am, but I would be there 7am... water jugs in their rooms, fluid charts and gastro feed/ flush. It does take NVQ3 level, or someone at that level. Social care degree is good and there generalised cases. It's that level of input that's needed.

A social care worker isn't a health care assistant, a health care assistant gives the baths and washing, changing pads etc, a social care worker provides emotional and social support. There different job roles.
Where is this nursing home what state? I love the fact that they could have a cat or bird in there room and only 1 person to a room. My mom is in a nursing home 2 to a room and very small room at that. But I have to say the people that work there are very nice and my mom does not complain.
This is not an accurate representation, you will be rushed off your feet doing personal care, pad changes, bed baths, feeding, paperwork and dealing with challenging aggressive dementia behaviour and managers pushing you to your limits.

That is a big no no. Pop into the cup and dispense out of the cup into the mouth. Most of the meds I give are with applesauce so automatically have to use a spoon.

Zack Sleeps they rescheduled my interview like an hour before i was gonna go. I didnt bother in the end as they seemed unreliable and i also dont think i could have wiped anyone behind. I work at home bargains now

The good ones at bad nursing homes, often get burnt out, while the others,take it easy and do crap work , but tend to last longer, which is why they are always hiring, besides the growing elderly population. I am currently considering starting a foster home for the elderly with my daughter. All of my experiences in that and other areas and her youth and muscle power...it might be a good fit for us to at least start one. The amount nursing homes charge is said to be double what they pay for care in ones own home. There are numerous video's on just that, that suggest a VERY VERY good income. Nursing assistants here in the Orlando area make about $10-$11 /hour to start. When I started in N.Y. the minimum wage was UNDER $3/hour ..lol ! And there were bets that I couldn't handle it, which when I found out, only drove me to try harder and harder back then. My first day was complete with the most physically demanding patients, projectile vomiting and a chitter... .omfg! I did it and grew to love all my clients/ patients.... The laws , rules, requirements, responsibilities were very different in the north vs the south and over time, such as wearing gloves, duties...Anyway, at $3,500-$5,000/ month for each client , patient in our own homes, modified or starting fresh in one that can accommodate 6-10 elderly people comfortably, one can certainly afford to hire a staff to assist with the varying duties , part or fulltime.I had worked in nursing homes and doing home care as well, even in a school, working one on one with a teen with cerebral palsey during the summer break, then hired by the school to work with multiple children with disabilities, while still working for that agency for other clients in their homes, apartments...I'd also done hospice work and even volunteered as a "candy striper" way back when , at a local hospital. This new to me approach, idea...will help sell it to my daughter because not many like the idea of actually wiping adult butts....and doing the jobs that few want to do, irregardless of the moral.... aspects of taking care of our elderly population well, money does talk and it seems that it can be a win win, with our love and care for rescue....pets too. Later, only adopting senior pets for our senior citizens. It has my wheels spinning of yester-year being made new again, but in a much more lucrative way. Big and good hearts need money too and I would love the idea of having my own means to support myself in that phase of my life too. Something to seriously think about!
My dad had dementia. Fell and broke his hip, they didn't even give him ibuprofen. Because he didn't ask for it. Well he was incapable of that. He couldn't have recovered from hip replacement. He got pneumonia, and it took a long time to kill him. It almost killed my mother to witness that. I am absolutely pro death instead of lingering terminal demise.
Her care job is BS, they all care for themselves with no dementia. Wheres the screaming, pad change, hoisting, resident being aggressive and non compliant refusing food and drink. Doesnt she need to wear ppe too?
After writing a care plan electronically she should print a copy out and give back to the client to read and sign if he agrees with it. She speaks to them like they are children. I find her too patronising. It seems she works with fairly independent people. She did not follow the health and safety guidelines when it comes to dispensing medication. ''Take your pills for me''???. Surprised she won a recognition for care
