Part 1: How to Sew an Elephant Stuffed Animal (Pattern)

This week, continuing Sew Together Tuesday with another must-watch sewing tutorial mini-series, our National Educator Teresa Coates shares her tips and tricks for creating the cutest stuffed animal elephant. We can’t think of anything that would make self-quarantine more enjoyable!
Affectionately named “Ellie Elephant”, this sew-at-home elephant stuffy was designed by our friends over at Funky Friends Factory. It looks (and feels) great sewn with Cuddle® and Luxe Cuddle® minky plush fabrics in classic elephant hues, or even louder, more colorful designs as Teresa shows here.

If you print at 120%, how much fabric do you buy and what size eyes would you purchase? Thanks so much for your help. Love your videos they are very helpful.

You can get it out of a half-yard, if you start with the big pieces and make the little pieces fit in. You'll also need a scrap of other color for the ears and/or feet. Thanks for letting us know you like the videos; I really appreciate it! -teresa

@@ShannonFabrics, thank you so much. Do you prewash all your fabric before cutting the pattern out and if so what temperature's would you use to wash and dry? I just received my fabric and was wanting to get started but didn't know whether to prewash fabric first. I have a new granddaughter getting ready to enter this world anytime now and wanted to make her a gift and thought this cute little elephant would be a great gift. Also, do you think the 12mm eyes would be okay to use for the increased size beings I don't have the 15mm or would it look silly? Thank you so much for your help. Tammy

Teresa, do all of the Funky Friends Factory patterns need to be enlarged to work with Cuddle? I'm thinking about making Dixie Dachshund.

Dawn, I haven't made the Dixie Dachsund, so I can't speak from experience, but I do know that they are all a little bit easier to make when they are bigger. Take a look at the pattern pieces and you'll likely know whether those pieces are gonna be difficult. If you can enlarge it, I'd recommend 120%... it's almost always a good choice for her patterns.
