Whisky.com reviews the Glenmorangie - A Tale of the Forest. With the Glenmorangie A Tale of the Forest, the distillery from the Highlands once again proves its love of experimentation. The malt for this whisky was first kilned over botanicals such as pine needles, juniper and wood smoke. The whisky with forest influence was then allowed to mature in former and refilled bourbon casks before being bottled at 46 % ABV. The elaborate and colorful design of the outer packaging and the bottle was created by the Thai illustrator Pomme Chan, who is said to have an incomparable talent for drawing. Pomme Chan has also worked for other, large and international brands.

Really like the concept and I think that in the future distilleries will be using all manner of things to malt barley. There is a distillery in Arizona called Del Bac and mesquite wood is used to malt the barley and it creates a wonderful smoky bbq profile. Cheers!

Santa Fe Spirits makes a wood-smoked malt (Colkegan), as does Andalusia in Texas (Stryker, I think?).

Unfortunately not. On the label it says, that the Whisky is with artificial colouring.

That sounds interesting because a bit smoky and strong whisky was not the direction of the distillery as I knew

I really enjoy your reviews. Can you elaborate a bit on why so many distilleries are doing these special releases with "catchy" names? Do they really need to fall to this type of marketing?

Because they dont gave that much aged Whisky anymore, and they cant change that in the short term.
So the best way to make money short term is to throw out "Special Editions" without age certification. Also you would be surprised how many people get caught by fancy packaging and naming.

Who needs any sort of analytical instruments... Dude can smell exactly 5-10 ppm of whatever he's smelling. Impressive.
