I understand why people dislike insert coin theme 11:07 , but I personally like it. It's chaotic, dissonant, yet playful at the same time. At first my adult musical mind could not understand why my 5 y.o. daughter gets excited whenever this music plays, but then I realized that I had to strip down all my musical influences to become innocent to truly enjoy the music. The dissonant recorder sound brings me back to my childhood music classes where it was chaotic and fun.
And I'm the 23-year old child that absolutely loves this music..... Okay as a musician I obviously also think that this is a bit too stylized but I think it fits the game. And I don't get why it is said that the MUSIC is childish. How can music be childish. I know that some get the feeling because of the high pitched woodwinds remind them of... maybe the Papageno Aria?
It's Overall a great soundtrack, but it was really out of tune- (I'm so late to this 😥) My favorite part is 1:59 though! (btw thanks so much for the timestamps! helped me a lot!)
Yeah it's very stylized. I think it's absolutely whimsical and silly which for the most part are what yoshi games are. It doesn't transcend beyond the other OSTs but it's not as bad as what people are saying

Everything was so cheerful and exciting, while still being calm in that game, but here, everything is so quiet and dead. I get there's not as much you can do with cardboard as with plushies, but it could've been much more lively. Not to mention there's just too little music..., and even the boss themes sound dead to me. Compare the boss theme of this game to say Knot-Wing Koopa or Naval Piranha from Woolly World and you'll understand why

I have to say, while this game overall is great, the soundtrack is a total downfall, even compared to the amazing soundtrack in Yoshi's Woolly World, despite that Good-Feel has been well-known for having some of the best videogame music. Then again, Tomoya Tomita left Good-Feel in 2017.
Fully agree. The OST for Woolly World was miles better than this. This is the only game I've ever had to turn the sound down on, and I've played Yoshi's Story!

A cartoony visualization with cardboards and hand-craft materials does by no means justify a lackluster soundtrack with only a few soundtracks repeated over the entire game, just slightly changed. The Woolly World's soundtrack would have fitted quite nicely as well and that game has tons upon tons of different unique soundtracks. You can't compare that with whatever the hell this is supposed to be. I could get away with the god-awful soundtrack if only there were more than one soundtrack that is being repeated a hundred times. Why so many songs feel as if the instruments were playing the same song but in two different keys??? Terrible soundtrack! Reminds me of Yoshi's New Island :-/

I dislike the map theme. It's the Yoshi Story theme but they cut a lot of notes & it just sounds horrible compared to the n64 version.
