I remember missile shield. At A Lan party everyone was immune to missiles. But we couldn't kill the enemy team cause the shield only blocks enemy missiles. So they just constantly nuked their own territory to kill our advancing army. Ended in a draw.
The Egyptians are also ridiculously overpowered. You can have 7 farms per city (i think granaries are free too or something?) You can have 2 wonders in the same city and can build wonders a whole age ahead of you or anyone else. Other shit too but basically they're playing the game on fast forward
Yeah, that's the 2nd best civ for me. The top #1 civ for me is Bantu. Cities are ridiculously 75% cheaper and can be built 2x each civic research. This help to claim lands and regional resources much quicker than your enemies. Also +100% population limit from militia research is also OP, which exceeds total population by 25%. Almost all units move 25% faster so that's another great bonus.

Introduced some friends to this game back in the day, 8 player free for all ended in a 1 vs 7 where I owned 60 percent of the map and anyone who set foot in my territory was immediately set on fire. In all honesty I use to play this game all the time back in the day. My little brother managed to get a copy some how. And he got me into playing this game. I would abuse the hell of the amount of infantry you can spawn to the point where the sound would start to break from the amount machine gun fire going on at once.

15:36 Wrong. There are counters to Stealth Bombers. One example would be to simply build airports, fill them with air fighters, and you can send them to attack stealth bombers. If the stealth bombers are after a certain building, send your air fighters to guard it and they'll attack stealth bombers that come to try and bomb it.
YES! Rise of nations!! Edit: 1. More than one person can research missle shield. Late game this means you start targetting opponents libraries to cut off research. 2. There is an "infinite production" icon on the right of the progress bar in every building. Take a wild guess at what that does. 3. Germans are my favorite faction because they get granaries/mills at the start of the game. A little op for economy...
you can halt the advancment in technologies by destroying all libraries that Ai/player have, its easier to do so with nukes... not that you are wrong just thought that you should know
-helicopters do suffer attrition damage -building the redfort is a bad idea. Due to a flaw, it can crash the game whenever you garrison units in any building.
Real46 Also, against other players, attrition strats are apparently considered crappy. The AI flounders against it since they want to destroy any targets they find in their path, which is exactly what towers are meant to do: bog down enemies so they get picked off.
I still remember the Millennium War. There was this one AI that I was at war with from the stone age into the modern age. I didn’t know about national mechanics at the time (my english understanding was fairly bare-bones) so I don’t know if my nation and the enemy’s nation had anything to do with how the war ended up lasting the entire game.
Russians aren`t OP. The Game is quite balanced in PlayerVSPlayer. But the AI is not very good vs defensive nations and attrition in early game. So it`s funny to watch the AI runnin vs your attrition damage in early game. But if he fight vs harder computer AI he cant really attack them back. In different situations other Nations best: Standard Game PvP 1v1 maybe Dutch best (Best Economy, you start with 2 merchants and market place), Nomad Game 1v1 PvP High Ress. Japanese best (Start with cheap farms give you fast economy, and you have good HI), in 4v4 maybe Nubians best (you have fast merchants and lot of rare ressources), on boomin sea maps maybe Egyptians best (for many wonders). For Rushin fast in Age I: Japanese, For Rushin fast in Age II: Turks best. Lakota and Mongols are always good attackin/raidin nations in Age II too. On Land map with many mountains Inca perform very well (extra gold for mountains)...etc...
Yeah the reason he won so easily is that the other nations were all set to moderate difficulty which id pretty easy. A normal player should play against tough, and one that can play should play against tougher or toughest. And the fact that he took 7 computers against him, just made it easier since they werent on a team, so they bombed eachother too
The game just have very deep per civ strategy that any nation can thrive depending on the players plan that favors the initial situation presented in the beginning of the game. The nations are pretty balanced and most pro players play random nations. The top pros would really choose Aztecs on a 1v1 or even British on Sahara(most played map by the pros) because of free infantry. Iroquois is also good because of extra scout and fast infantry. Spain has extra scout but at least 3 initial ruins visible could make them very fearsome. On nomad my choice due to my less aggressive style is Nubians or Greeks when everything is played very low and expensive. The best feature of the game is the taunt and flaring. These features ease the players on team games, give more fun and better coordinations. In my entire gaming experience I’ve never played a dynamic game that’s too deep on strategy than RoN. This is the game for smart and fast thinking players. Although fast clicking gives advantage but the pacing balances it really well.
I just realized yesterday when I watched Avengers again that the line "perfectly balanced as all things should be" is from Thanos when he is giving that double knife to Gamorrah as a kid xD

My Dad actually had the rather large book of the Rise of Nations Strategic Guide back in the day, and border pushes were a genuine tactic, alongside incredible innovations like Boom, Rush and Turtle!
I played US because my personal nationalism, but I’m redownloading it now, and looking at their bonuses... it’s a happy synergy with my playstyle anyway: I always preferred just spamming out formations of bombers: they are technically easier to counter than nukes, but since they can be used indefinitely, you don’t have to stop to think about what they bombard. Also, gaining resources with each new unit is just nutty
First huh? Still heckin heck this game is old. Seriously, when this game was new, I was all of ten years old and felt damn lucky to have a crippled and dying NES... Times sure change I guess.

You shoulda played with unlocked population limit... Imagine, thousands of tanks flooding the enemy cities. and it actually runs really well with thousands more cause the game's like 16 years old.
@Thuat Vuong You can still be cpu bound in some games yes, but this games architecture seems to scale pretty well with more powerful cpu's, and the gpu of course isn't a problem in this case. Using a shit pc I was able to run the game ~30 fps with a thousand infantry, instead of the default cap of 200.
@Lord Voldemort I was just eyeballing it but I'm fairly sure I could select at least 200 units, mostly soldiers, cause I killed off my citizens to get the max cap of soldiers before modding and was able to select them all, with a few tanks and others mixed in.
For land map.. That wonder is good.. but for long term.. when we have 6 or more barracks for reloading troops.. thats just a little helps.. When we play with nukes and have many opponent.. That wonder will help for supply troops..
Best 1v1 civ would be China. They get gunpowder like 2 ages early. None of the other unit in that age have defense against gunpowder. Merchants and villagers also produce instantly and you start with more at the beginning.
Now try this in 1v1 against human in multiplayer. And yes, there is a multiplayer. Also 1v1 against max difficulty AI is harder then FFA with seven AI's.
To be fair, a decent player can win with any nation and just about any strategy on moderate difficulty. These videos show some different and fun ways of bullying the AI, but they aren't really super-powerful game-is-broken exploits. They're just using the nation powers the way they were meant to be used, against fairly easy opposition.
When this game came out in 2003 I remember I loved it a lot. It was one of those games that had some form of exploit for every faction. The Russian ones were quite OP.
Or fall, if you don't want to drown in mud (and we have no roads). Or spring, for the same reason. Or summer, actually, the temperature gets up to +36C. Actually, just don't invade Russia
the armageddon counter was always fun. It made it so if one civilization got super powerful, the others can be all "If we're going down, we're taking you with us" and just start lobbing nuclear weapons everywhere, theirown territory if needed.
As it turns out, the actual Russian bonus should be that Russian troops take 100% when in enemy territory based on their modern day logistics capabilities

Several years ago, I had a similar concept for videos, but I've eased up on playing video games over the years. I'm glad to see someone else is running with the concept, and doing well for themselves.
My sidebar introduces me to good stuff yet again. First video I watch with you, won't be the last. Initial reaction is the best parts of RTGame and TotalBiscuit. Very lovely.
RoN (rise of nations) = balanced *but* that means a tank needs to shoot five times at one infantry. Same with artillery. EE (empire earth) = unbalanced as fuck boi *But* really fucking fun. And when a mortar shoots, it wrecks 10 infantry. If 10 mortars shoots, they wreck the army. In RoN the Ai doesnt cheat, it is actual good AI. In EE, the AI sucks, but it cheats so freaking much, harder difficulties are impossible. But there are countless of exploits and OP stuff, nothing is balanced, so its still pretty fun. The one most unbalanced things in both games. In RoN, Nuclears are OP. But they can be disabled. In EE, the nuclears come are dropped from planes, and you can spam 100 of them, and if they survive, they can bomb again. Badically the other nation has no chance.
The first broken things i noticed in this game back in the day was that wonder that let you duplicate every unit you built, or did it chain-build russian infantry without cost, at a rate of 1 every second? Or was that Empire Earth? LOL. Anyway.. 19:40 YEP THATS THE ONE. I had 10 barracks pumping out conscripts against my friend, just all on attack move rally point.
I will always have fond memories of Freedom Force's first campaign and the cries of "For Nuclear Winter!", "For The Motherland!", and "For The Workers!"
Attrition should also apply to your own population for maximum sovietness.

15:36 Wrong. There are counters to Stealth Bombers. One example would be to simply build airports, fill them with air fighters, and you can send them to attack stealth bombers. If the stealth bombers are after a certain building, send your air fighters to guard it and they'll attack stealth bombers that come to try and bomb it.

1. More than one person can research missle shield. Late game this means you start targetting opponents libraries to cut off research.
2. There is an "infinite production" icon on the right of the progress bar in every building. Take a wild guess at what that does.
3. Germans are my favorite faction because they get granaries/mills at the start of the game. A little op for economy...

Also, against other players, attrition strats are apparently considered crappy. The AI flounders against it since they want to destroy any targets they find in their path, which is exactly what towers are meant to do: bog down enemies so they get picked off.
I still remember the Millennium War. There was this one AI that I was at war with from the stone age into the modern age. I didn’t know about national mechanics at the time (my english understanding was fairly bare-bones) so I don’t know if my nation and the enemy’s nation had anything to do with how the war ended up lasting the entire game.

I've played this game throughout my childhood and never realized the Russians were this OP.
Russians aren`t OP. The Game is quite balanced in PlayerVSPlayer. But the AI is not very good vs defensive nations and attrition in early game. So it`s funny to watch the AI runnin vs your attrition damage in early game. But if he fight vs harder computer AI he cant really attack them back. In different situations other Nations best: Standard Game PvP 1v1 maybe Dutch best (Best Economy, you start with 2 merchants and market place), Nomad Game 1v1 PvP High Ress. Japanese best (Start with cheap farms give you fast economy, and you have good HI), in 4v4 maybe Nubians best (you have fast merchants and lot of rare ressources), on boomin sea maps maybe Egyptians best (for many wonders). For Rushin fast in Age I: Japanese, For Rushin fast in Age II: Turks best. Lakota and Mongols are always good attackin/raidin nations in Age II too. On Land map with many mountains Inca perform very well (extra gold for mountains)...etc...

Yeah the reason he won so easily is that the other nations were all set to moderate difficulty which id pretty easy.
A normal player should play against tough, and one that can play should play against tougher or toughest.
And the fact that he took 7 computers against him, just made it easier since they werent on a team, so they bombed eachother too
The game just have very deep per civ strategy that any nation can thrive depending on the players plan that favors the initial situation presented in the beginning of the game. The nations are pretty balanced and most pro players play random nations. The top pros would really choose Aztecs on a 1v1 or even British on Sahara(most played map by the pros) because of free infantry. Iroquois is also good because of extra scout and fast infantry. Spain has extra scout but at least 3 initial ruins visible could make them very fearsome.
On nomad my choice due to my less aggressive style is Nubians or Greeks when everything is played very low and expensive.
The best feature of the game is the taunt and flaring. These features ease the players on team games, give more fun and better coordinations.
In my entire gaming experience I’ve never played a dynamic game that’s too deep on strategy than RoN. This is the game for smart and fast thinking players. Although fast clicking gives advantage but the pacing balances it really well.

4 years later hearing Russia and 'overpowered' is like the second funniest joke nobody laughs at.
My Dad actually had the rather large book of the Rise of Nations Strategic Guide back in the day, and border pushes were a genuine tactic, alongside incredible innovations like Boom, Rush and Turtle!

I played US because my personal nationalism, but I’m redownloading it now, and looking at their bonuses... it’s a happy synergy with my playstyle anyway: I always preferred just spamming out formations of bombers: they are technically easier to counter than nukes, but since they can be used indefinitely, you don’t have to stop to think about what they bombard.
Also, gaining resources with each new unit is just nutty

and it actually runs really well with thousands more cause the game's like 16 years old.
@Thuat Vuong You can still be cpu bound in some games yes, but this games architecture seems to scale pretty well with more powerful cpu's, and the gpu of course isn't a problem in this case.
Using a shit pc I was able to run the game ~30 fps with a thousand infantry, instead of the default cap of 200.

@Lord Voldemort I was just eyeballing it but I'm fairly sure I could select at least 200 units, mostly soldiers, cause I killed off my citizens to get the max cap of soldiers before modding and was able to select them all, with a few tanks and others mixed in.

Best 1v1 civ would be China. They get gunpowder like 2 ages early. None of the other unit in that age have defense against
gunpowder. Merchants and villagers also produce instantly and you start with more at the beginning.

To be fair, a decent player can win with any nation and just about any strategy on moderate difficulty. These videos show some different and fun ways of bullying the AI, but they aren't really super-powerful game-is-broken exploits. They're just using the nation powers the way they were meant to be used, against fairly easy opposition.
When this game came out in 2003 I remember I loved it a lot. It was one of those games that had some form of exploit for every faction. The Russian ones were quite OP.

the armageddon counter was always fun. It made it so if one civilization got super powerful, the others can be all "If we're going down, we're taking you with us" and just start lobbing nuclear weapons everywhere, theirown territory if needed.

Several years ago, I had a similar concept for videos, but I've eased up on playing video games over the years. I'm glad to see someone else is running with the concept, and doing well for themselves.

The ai never stopped building capitol centers, one damn worker left alive and the ai will rebuild
RoN (rise of nations) = balanced
*but* that means a tank needs to shoot five times at one infantry. Same with artillery.
EE (empire earth) = unbalanced as fuck boi
*But* really fucking fun. And when a mortar shoots, it wrecks 10 infantry. If 10 mortars shoots, they wreck the army.
In RoN the Ai doesnt cheat, it is actual good AI.
In EE, the AI sucks, but it cheats so freaking much, harder difficulties are impossible. But there are countless of exploits and OP stuff, nothing is balanced, so its still pretty fun.
The one most unbalanced things in both games.
In RoN, Nuclears are OP. But they can be disabled.
In EE, the nuclears come are dropped from planes, and you can spam 100 of them, and if they survive, they can bomb again. Badically the other nation has no chance.
The first broken things i noticed in this game back in the day was that wonder that let you duplicate every unit you built, or did it chain-build russian infantry without cost, at a rate of 1 every second? Or was that Empire Earth? LOL. Anyway..
