Stephen Malkmus's "tch" reaction and turn of the head when after that interviewer's long-winded thing about pretension when she just asked him straight up "Maybe you have become pretentious?" So good. He and they were never pretentious. They just casually became one of the best bands of all-time. Maybe he/they did know it. But they were never pretentious, they just kept putting out the best music of the 90s in the most nonchalant style.
