We just lucked out. We were looking in thru the windows and eating a snack on the front porch when a ranger walked up. She opened the doors and invited everyone inside and she shared the history of the Pratts and the cabin. We had planned on hiking on to the grotto, but we had spent so much time at the cabin that we just returned to the trailhead.
@@dayhikingduo Was that cabin where the Pratts actually lived or was it just a vacation cabin? Was wondering about that but couldn't read that anywhere.
They had a house in Houston. This was their summer house. They lived there full-time right after he retired. They got trapped there one time during a flood and they built another house just out of the canyon. You can read about it on Wikipedia listed under Pratt Lodge.
Beautiful mild hike. Did this one for the first time a few days ago.
Hope you enjoyed it! we really enjoyed the ranger opening the cabin and telling us some of the history.
@@dayhikingduo that sounds neat....I didn't have that opportunity.
