      We just lucked out. We were looking in thru the windows and eating a snack on the front porch when a ranger walked up. She opened the doors and invited everyone inside and she shared the history of the Pratts and the cabin. We had planned on hiking on to the grotto, but we had spent so much time at the cabin that we just returned to the trailhead.

    • @connectingwiththeoutdoors81

      They had a house in Houston. This was their summer house. They lived there full-time right after he retired. They got trapped there one time during a flood and they built another house just out of the canyon. You can read about it on Wikipedia listed under Pratt Lodge.

    Thanks for posting this! (saw your comment on Trip Advisor). My friends and I have canoed past Ferry Bluff every year for fifty years now - we started in high school. This is definitely the best part of our four-day trip. Scenic and quiet away from the highways. They're going again in a few weeks, but I no longer go - can't risk another infection from river bacteria! So I've been thing of finally making the climb up Ferry Bluff and greeting them from above as they drift by. This was very helpful to show me the trail and the grade, since I have some neuropathy which affects my balance and walking. Think I can make this short hike though with a couple good hiking sticks.

      Thank you for your kind words. I am so glad that the video was helpful. We try to share our experience for that very reason; so that viewers can see the terrain, level of difficulty, and the beauty. And also so that we can relive the experience. I hope that you will be able to greet them as they pass. I would suggest going with someone else and being very careful near the edge. Good luck.

    • @dayhikingduo
      @dayhikingduo 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your input. We do narrate when it is absolutely needed (Mounds State Park). When we watch hiking videos we notice that some people talk the whole time using a selfie stick. You never see the scenery except a little behind the "talking head". We get frustrated because we want to see the views and what the trail has to offer. I guess we tend to go the other way. We let the viewer see the highlights from the trail, the terrain and the vistas; let them hear the birds, the river, or the silence. If there is a lot of wind noise then we use more music. We figure they can check AllTrails or Google for the stats and reviews. Maybe we can narrate some, or give our review at the end. Thanks again for your input. We appreciate that you took the time to give constructive criticism.

    • @DarrellnKitty
      @DarrellnKitty 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree some talk to much, but we like to here some description of the area and just a short comment about where you are at along the way and a short explination of what we are looking for them keep moving, I have a look af videos going while I work and when they comment about someting interesting, i will stop and back it up and rewatch it, but please keep making videos

      Thanks so much for your kind words. This area gets more than 90 inches of rain per year. Add the elevation of the beginning of the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get beautiful waterfalls everywhere. We took the short, steep trail up. So glad that you enjoyed the vid.

    Great video. I was at this park BUT couldn’t find the entrance because there’s a golf course there and I didn’t want to trespass on private property. I ended up not going through the park, which was disappointing. If you can show on TH-cam or point to where the entrance is and describe where you can park and enter, that would be great.

      I assume you were at the golf course at 59th St. & Post Rd. Post Rd. north to 59th St. Turn left onto Shafter Rd going NW. Turn right onto Clark Rd, heading NE. Clark Rd ends at the parking area with public bathrooms.

      @@dayhikingduo The Apple maps gives the park entrance via Post Road and 59th St. I should have used the Google Map sinstead. Arrgh!!!

      @@dayhikingduo : I've hiked Tank Springs trail as well, beautiful rock cliffs. Name of trail comes from spring employed to fill a water tank by the railroad tracks during the days of steam. Tracks don't see much use these days but water still springs forth. Thank you for pics from the trail, I enjoyed seeing it again.
