    Glad you included the floor plan and layout at the beginning. It's comical how turned around I was before today, especially after watching every video from the beginning to present. Thanks for that, as well as the proto photos to better visualize the end result. You have quite a showpiece in progress. As Sade sings ... smooth operator!

    Plaster cloth looks much better than paper and glue. I like the way you adapt and change things.

    • @EvanstonSub

      Thanks, I'll sill be putting a thin layer of plaster on top for a smooth finish.

    Excellent overview. Thanks for posting.
    I was a little disappointed that you skipped the helix with it's extra loop for correcting the running direction.

    The Curvo bridge is really neat. Especially the two girder structure supporting the bridge that straddle the lower track.

    • @EvanstonSub

      Yep, got to figure out what size girders are used.

    Oh hell yeah, you even got the Ogden yard in there!
    As a born Utahn, our importance in Western rail operations is severely underrated, so I'm glad that someone actually remembered that we exist.
    This layout is looking amazing, good luck!

    This made me want to visit both the layout and the area it's modeled after. They both look great. (Closest I've been is Salt Lake City)

    Sir, I may have missed this fact, but have you estimated how many scale miles of track you have created? BTW: we hobbyists, we know the huge expenditure of time, resources, and cash - while you may not agree, there probably are 6 figures now and when this 'club-sized' layout is fully completed (if ever), the cash requirements are (will be) astounding. I have been a model railroader: I have changed to astronomy and the costs - are endless. Wonderful workmanship, or should I be politically correct - work-person-ship: the commitment - my, my - just wonderful.

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว

      No PC needed here. Total cost so far is well below six figures. Probably between 50K-65K including basement finishing. Ninety percent of that has been funded by the sale of my N scale collection and my TH-cam channel. Very little has come from our household budget.

    Excellent tour. Even though I've been following along, I appreciated the explanation and prototype photos of each location. You may already be planning to do this, but your trip to Wyoming could be a great chance to collect soil so you can use it in your scenery.

    Looks great! When you are modeling the specific scenes do you try to get the landscape 100% accurate per photos or just representative?

  • @4x7layout

    Nice, Daryl. I just subscribed and will follow with interest. I was wondering where/how you get your photos blown up into the backdrop banners. Thanks!

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว

      Walgreens photo banners. They have 50% off periodically so suggest you wait for that.

    Are you also modeling the "pumphouse wye" in Granger?

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm afraid not. Just not enough room for a wye.

    Do you have the 1987 placards on the tank cars? Are the tank cars DOT117? This has become an issue since East Palestine derailment.

    • @EvanstonSub

      Hmm.. I'll have to check.

    Will a drone help to take photos of west vaco mill if the company don't allow tours

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably would, but I doubt the company would approve that either.

    With what must be hundreds of feet of track, what do you use to clean it so the trains run smoothly?

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really don't do much of anything track cleaning wise. Running trains a lot really helps.

  • @jerryvanzant
    @jerryvanzant ปีที่แล้ว

    I mainly run in n scale but I do have ho scale track and rolling stock that I use on occasion.

    • @jerryvanzant
      @jerryvanzant ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it possible to run a 60 to 65 car manifest freight on your layout?

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can do over a hundred cars, however the staging yard maximum is 50.

    • @jerryvanzant
      @jerryvanzant ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you thought about getting an HO scale model of big boy #4014?

  • @PaulFotschky

    The plaster cloth does look better.

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree. I'll still put a bit of regular plaster on top to smooth out the finish.

  • @norbertdx

    If you had run an upper level over the peninsula would that have given you any additional industries?

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't need any additional industries. This line runs through a very, very sparsely populated area.

  • @jamesames7177

    • @EvanstonSub

      Lombard hobbies. Best prices and great service.
