I stumbled across this demo in a search for validation of the K3. I was pleasantly surprised by the Krell which was most enjoyable here. The others reminded me too much of an early Nad and Wharfedale combo i had which put me to sleep.
After that...in audio heaven. No such thing as "perfect". My goal was to find an integrated amp that could play everything incredibly well. There are better, smoother, wider sound stage having amps out there. But...not at the s300i current price point. I listen to live performances. The Krell pulls "that sound" off easily. ProAc's 2.5's...if you can get um untampered with? It's enough... especially for apartment living.
....300 Krell watts...is like 500 Sony ES watts. Class A boost to boot. Absolute control. Sound like mono-amps. Very much like my old Bryston 4B...but deeper soundstage. The headroom seems endless.
Most interestingly this video reflects the reverse order of my preference. In real life I prefer the Krell with these speakers. I'd always been after a warm sound until I ended up with a too warm combo with the Amatis and the Mac. The Mac sounds too smooth, flat and boring with the Amatis. Its tad loose bass, midbass hump and rich midrange makes it sound sweet and cuddly, very easy to listen to, but too rolled-off so lots of details are lost. It sounds muffled. Also a bit slow on certain types of music. The soundstage is too 2D too, the sound is coming from the speakers, especially using the 4 Ohm tap. The 8 Ohm tap is a bit more lively. The Krell is just the opposite. Revealing with deep bass with unprecedented slam and grip, dry and balanced mid range and clear and crisp highs and full of details. Open with great speed and dynamics. The soundstage is also good the instruments are well-separated. It perfectly complements the warmth and politeness and the rich mid-range of the Amatis, match made in Heaven. My only complaint is that voices sound a bit tinny. They don't have the body as they do with the other two amps. The Roksan is very good and musical with the widest soundstage of the three and a real punchy bass and an overall big and full-bodied sound. A bit too much reverb and focus on the mid range for the Amatis. Compared to the Krell the Roksan sounds a tad veiled/smeared. Really just a tiny bit and only in comparision. The Krell sounds a bit clearer, more focused, all the instruments are nicely separated and with its deep bass and crisp and sparkly top end it seems to focus on the two ends of the frequency range which creates a sense of a wider bandwith. The Roksan focuses on the midrange with a punchy bass and good treble but neither is as deep/high as with the Krell. Verdict. With the Amatis this is my order of preference - Krell - Roksan - McIntosh
I had the McIntosh MA7000 and it sound exactly as how you described, easy on the ears never offending just on boring side in fact very close sounding my marantz pearl lite integrated amp. I always recommend the marantz amp to my friend if they can't afford a Macintosh.
Krell is just more neutral. Does not "soft focus" the input. Sounds less compressed. Closer to sitting in the recording session than the other integrated amps. Everything is the right size...no "Honey I shrunk the Band" going on. Any Listener fatigue is due to the actual quality of the recording. Play "Octavia...Phi Sonics"...then flip the script to Robert Glasper w/Jill Scott. Krell can do both. Other integrated underpowered amps will sound toilet paper thin, weak...like portable boom boxes.
Maybe it's the recording or the room but all three led me to think the voices were somewhat separate from the rest of the music. Try it with some other music. Forced though, McIntosh by a whisker, Roksan then Krell

Krell sounds more unplugged, like a raw session practiced in a living room. No electronics. Buying it today from the Music Room.
What happened after that?

the second sounds the best, the bass tones are really good
Thanks you very much for sharing this versus
Roksan for me...and you can save a lot of money!
Just uploaded my ProAc 2.5's powered via Krell s300i. Enjoy.
nekem Krell s 300i van , nagyon szeretem, száraz, részletgazdag, nyitott
Egyetertek!
Krell...top

S300i Close to KSA-50 for transparent and clarity.
K3 is the best for the money
And good sound close behind the krell
Bit of a bargain really
Personally my tots as follow.
Krell - loud and noisy
Roksan - gentle, detail and musical
Mcintosh - lots of power and quiet
Roksan K3 the best, because, most of the mid-range is in it and it brings the band closest.
It's unfortunately monophonic recording and everything is in the middle...

Your thoughts? From a quick listen, is the Krell slightly more 'luscious', the K3 cleaner and the McIntosh warmer, tad more bass?
See my comment above

Play "Suffer by Son Little"....Krell blows McIntosh and Roksan away.
What preamp you suggest for Roksan kma 2/3 mkr 3, amplifier. Thanks for suggestions and advice.
Mac is the best , secondly Roksan.

I have one Krell and with my Martin Logan is near to very live dinamic music
Any experience with Roksan k3+ Dynaudio Contour 20?
ROKSAN wins
But which is which?
Roksan K3 светлее
On this monophonic recording (after adjusting volume levels) there is no difference between the three...
Krell better
it shld be easiear to make the krell sound good,,, the roksan and mac sound too polite in the long term.
