This performance shows how much knowledge Andrei Gawrilow owns according to the score and what to make out of it. It could have been performed by a baroque orchestra because maestro Gawrilow brings out all the different and single lines and voices with a kind of tension that my brain is blasted away and to heaven! Well, I certainly see his point, even Bronfman's playing doesn't particularly speak to me. It's very rare that someone can do both. I think I can count maybe 10 pianists in the world today whom I would pay to see and hear, and neither Gavrilov nor Bronfman are on that list.
What a beautiful and individual sound in his Italian style when maestro Gavrilov played Scarlatti! So pretty genius. Even if he played a very few wrong notes…Also Arthur Rubinstein sometimes played “wrong” notes…It doesn’t matter!
Prokofiev "suggestion diabolique": maestro Andrei Gawrilow is more cool than the devil himself! No matter who performed it in public like Kissin, Richter who quite made a great job but imho there's no better performance than as played by maestro Andrei Gawrilow! Gawrilow brings colors,nuances and expression into this genius opera wich sounds like a factory with different machines or like many nuclear submarines or like Star Wars. I don't find the proper description for this but Gawrilow is still the very best!
The worse part is when you see he is happy with his performance. It would be interesting to have some psychologists trying to analyse why geniuses like Gavrilov, Sgouros, Pogorelich end in disaster after flying over the top.
Even though it´s hard to believe, ha plays Scarlatti worse than me! And it needs quite an "effort". Moreover, this is the most Russian piano video I´ve ever seen. In a bad way.

Maestro Gavrilov is able to perform Prokofiev as fluent as he'd play Bach! That's so magic!

If he were recording the Scarlatti, he would have stopped after the first few measures in annoyance and started again, but it kept getting worse.
"Suggestion diabolique" reminds me a little bit on "Scarbo" from "Gaspard de la nuit" as composed by Maurice Ravel!
