$40 Antique Store Fishing Challenge!! (Crazy Find!)

- I hit up the local antique store in search of whatever old fishing lures or rod/reel combinations they had. While I didn't find any decent old fishing lures, I found some sick old school rod/reel combos!! I couldn't believe it but I actually caught some fish on this ultra slow gear ratio reel and flimsy rod!

Honestly this was probably the most fun I've had filming a solo video since I started my channel! Who likes the challenge videos?

This challenge video was by far my favorite!! I like the fact you brought up that rod could've been someones starter rod and its quite nostalgic to think that you found it as well as got the privilege to use it!!

I did have that thought when I was filming. 2 other guys in bass boats out there...both gave me funny looks. And neither of them had caught a fish 👍🏻

I think that a old antique lure challenge would be fun. Challenge could be at least one fish on each a old top water, old crank, and old WTF lure.

Pretty cool man. That was a serious antique store with all the sections and stuff. Sure could have spent a lot of time in there myself. Nice catches. I've also heard that the fiberglass rods were nice to fight the fish but you also can't feel anything lie u were talking about with this old school one
Fun video to watch man!! That rod and reel was a good combo for people who like to eat fish waaayyy back in the day!! If you fish it patiently you'll never go hungry. Looked very similar to the fishing pole my dad tought me with. Good memories!! :)

Man, I've got to say it is awesome finding your channel on here! I am from Omaha Nebraska as well. Joined the Army now I'm in Texas. But it is great seeing your videos in Nebraska! I actually worked at Werner Enterprises thats right up the highway from that antique store. Hopefully some time, when I come home on leave we can link up and slay some monsters!

unique challenge, well done. this is the direction I'd like to see challenges go, the whole antique equipment angle. old lures would be awesome if you can find them. I feel like one hurdle would be their "collectability," i.e. they are usually pretty expensive, and no one wants to actually fish with them.
Been there, unfortunately a lot of the tackle has been artificially aged and worn!! Have you been to the new gun range only a couple miles up the road!! Just ran into you're channel! Have you ever been out to Pony Creek over in Iowa!

I used to have one similar to that when I was a little kid, my dad would buy them at garage sales and fix them up. They are great reels for little kids!

Fun video! I grew up using spin cast combos (not that old now), so it was cool to watch you chase some bass with some old school equipment. Also, thanks for leaving the dock fish alone for a day! Love that lake. If you ever need a net man send me a message. Sunday and Thursday mornings I am free to go out.

Thanks for the great entertainment you provided this 70 year old grandpop. I bought my first "real" fishing rod back in 1965, a Heddon Mark Golden 50. The level wind Pflueger reel I had featured a 2.5:1 ratio and no drag. Many years later, I still fish with that rod paired with a Zebco 33, and caught 8 bass, from 1lb 5 oz to 3 lb 11 oz on a Ned rig in a farm pond last weekend. When I am where other guys are fishing, they come over in amazement, like I'm fishing with a pool cue. Now, there's a great challenge for you! BTW, I do have GLoomis and a Chronarch, and, yes, I don't get nearly as tired fishing the new stuff vs. the heavy, tiny handle rod of my youth.

Do a challenge where you have subscribers send you a bait and try to catch a slaunch with it.
Putting a baitcaster on that rod will ridiculously reduce backlash I had one on a short pistolgripped spincast and it didn’t backlash and made awesomely accurate casts
I enjoy your videos very much. One critique, however.....I’d love to hear some real music in your opening/closing. Music with guitars and actual drums and such.

Enjoyed this for sure! I fly fish with my grandpa's old bamboo and fiberglass rods every now and then. A little bluegill feels like a 3 pounder, haha. Keep up the great content!
Grandpa fished fiberglass rods with zebco 808 and 888 reels. Would take you to school with an original rapala (silver or gold), devil hourse, and a jelly worm.

Hey, Milliken, this video is so cool; but, honestly, I'm not surprised at all that you were able to catch fish with it. Keep in mind that the combo, which you used, was representative of the technology of the time when it was manufactured. Someone bought it, when it was new, and caught fish with it. That was a way cool video; how about doing some more of those?

That combo reminds me of when my dad and I use to fish, that was the type of combo we used some 25+ years ago. I just started back fishing in July of this year, that brought back some good memories.
This is a unique challenge! Way to he creative. I like how you went old school and still caught some decent bass.. Maybe try a light lb test challenge? Also any bank fishing you do is a lot of fun to watch and relate to. Once again great video!

I like this video as well. My dad was a tournament fisherman and I got all of his gear now. Not sure how old it is but he had a few baitcasters and lures that I'm now trying to learn on. I'm guessing they are late 80s or 90s but still cool to know my dad used them. RIP Dad.
Ever think of doing a trout challenge with a 1" white mr.twister grub? That usually all I ever use to go trout fishing with and it works amazingly.

We all buy new stuff but always keep in the back of your head that the fish have no idea what boat you have or what rod/reel you are using. Remember that the record we all would like to have was set by George Perry in a wood boat and pretty much a nothing rod/reel. I think he had only one lure and he and his buddy were sharing that. Just food for thought!

Had that reel when I was a kid . You don't need to hold the line to cast , just press the button hold and release to cast . I taught my kids how to flip with that type of reel as well . Great job. Cheers
This is the best challenge video I have seen yet and will probably try it myself. Keep up the good work and please make more videos like this
I have an antique reel that functions just like that one.. you don't have to hold the line, you just have to hold the little button down and then release it when ever you feel like you need to release it to cast. Now you can disregard this if that's not how it functions.
Looks like an old Johnson reel.... Nothing wrong with glass rods, I still use them. Fun for little stuff.
If that first one on the second spot was a pound and a half then the little lake I fish at is full of 5+ pounders.. either that or I'm just terrible at fish weight estimation.. idk

I hipe you re lubed that reel and cleaned it before using, youd be surprised how much smoother they run when you change out the dried up grease also get your thumb off the reel its a spincast not a baitcaster
