Well that made everything clear, clear as mud.
I use three fingers. But I'm glad to hear you need to lock the wrist. Thanks for the lesson
This still leaves just about everything open...
You're not entirely wrong about that. We would have loved to present you with THE ONE solution, but unfortunately there isn't one.
I am fresh novice after 22 years darts playing pause ;-), currently I am using pencil grip, 3 fingers with middle finger placed where tip starts. But I realised, that it could be beneficial to use ring finger on tip to stabilise dart. As you said, have to find what suit me best and go ahead to gain consistency. It is too early to say, how my grip will evolve in the future, but definitely will work on it hard ;-). Thx for nice video
I use my ring finger on the tip of the point too
Only my pinky finger isn't used
But I lock that straight along with my first finger
I throw from the front of the dart tho, feels like I can adjust more
Players always say hold a dart the same as a pen tho, I write with the tip of a pen also
But it's what works for you, and what the situation is
Thank you for your comment! That motivates us :-)
Darts is a long journey in search of perfection, but you will never reach it. So: enjoy the path and all its forks!
i actually learned something. great vid
Great video, especially for a newbie like myself :D
If I were you - I would try to forget most of what you heard and saw in this video 😊
hello! my throws are consistent in a way that they are all leaning slightly to the right upon reaching the board.. can you tell what could be the reason and how it can be improved? thanks
mvg does not hold the dart in the front.
I was just about to comment myself lol - was it just me? He literally couldn’t hold his thrusters closer to the stem - just his dart design tells you this without even seeing the grip lol. Great video but yeah I spotted that instantly that he couldn’t be a better more exact example of a rear grip, Gerwyn Price is the total opposite and doesn’t have any contact in the back half of the barrel - I’m literally caught between the 2 I know they’re total opposite but both feel natural and one will perform one day and then have to revert another day, makes it impossible to settle on dart type! 😭 help lol
Height and angle: if you are shorter, do you extend your hand out (thus opening the angle), or do you lower your arm (thus closing the angle)? I think my old elbow would prefer to open it, lol
I hold my dart like a pen, it works well for me, I have also tried something else but it doesn't feel right for me. My dart flies towards my board very strangely. is this normal? or is it just that I have to play longer with the other technique
Awesome video can u please do a darts decoded on Phil Taylor favourite player of all time and would love an expert video on him
What would our channel be without a video about Phil Taylor? We can reveal that such a video is being planned. :)
I like him also. I was struggling with consistency because of a right hand left eye dominance thing but it helped my alignment
@@DartsDecodedget in very excited for that
@@Dbard8yea same it’s just the consistency is hard
@@Dbard8yes same it’s just hard to stay consistent with the grip for me
That's with nearly all questions about how to play darts. My answer: Keep it simple, keep it rational, keep it logic. And clarify everything, if it has to do with the brain and the perception and with the factors of physics of the dart, which you can measure, as speed, as trajectory, as stability. But it is impossible, to make a decision or a theory of what is the best way, the optimal way to throw a dart, beginning with the question, how to grip a dart.
The correct way is the way that works for you
🤝
Still waiting for the Rob Cross Throw decoded video....
Yes, we know. Just be patient for a few more hours 🤩
I'm thinking of giving darts up, I have the ability but I just haven't got the confidence. Its like my nerves kick in when I play in tournaments yet in the leavues I can average 85
Ryan, you have to let it all go, everyone else there is thinking the same thing, the best hack/cheat and how I became an expert putter in golf with the same philosophy, go in with the attitude of I’ve already quit so now I can just throw, but one more crucial element - become detached from reality - there’s no one there except you and the board and you’re so heavily concentrated on just the board and zoning in on the treble 20 that you have no awareness of anyone around you. When I’m putting I’m so lost in the terrain and where the ball might make just a 5mm break that I actually sometimes forget I’m with others because I’m so entranced - and the biggest benefit - there’s literally no one in that world for you to have room or contact with anyone to lose confidence. You have to understand that other people’s opinions or judgements ultimately mean absolutely zero in the context of the universe. Look at Luke Littler - he literally plays like he doesn’t give a shite - why? Because worst case you lose a darts match lol! Just come back another day and play the same way like there’s not a soul in sight and you’re playing yourself
Hold it like a javelin
I’ll just bring my crossbow
Might try to hold em with 10 fingers
😂😂
Don't let your opponents think that you actually wanted to take recorder lessons.
I was born left handed and am left eye dominant but my baby sitter hit me when I used the devil hand...my father caught her smacking me and forcing me to draw right handed and he said it was the only time he truly wanted to beat up a woman. my mother aunts are all left handed and my niece and nephew so it along with a widows peak runs in the family
when I was young playing baseball or softball I pitched left handed but wrote right. I decided to play darts and realized it just feels better pitching left but I have had to work to build back up my strength... i like this video though i wonder is it only men who throw darts? it would be nice to see videos that are geared to 5'4" men and women as the average height is that and 5'8" for men. Woman can shoot as well as men (my mother was crack shot in the Air Force) but I think strength and height may necessitate different style for women than men to be successful. 2 fingers works better for me even though one would think the opposite...any women on here just curious how many fingers you use ?

There is not a correct way to grip a dart mate
Yes!
People who are hating on this video are missing the point. Let's break it down.
1. Lock the wrist
2. There are a lot of different ways to hold the darts so experiment with what works for you.
3. Do be afraid to switch up your style as you get better and more consistent.
OP clearly states that there's no one right way and for beginners there's some useful tips to head you in the right direction. If you had to say "BS, there's no right way" then perhaps you just like to hear yourself talk?
I'm a physical therapist and this "lock the wrist" thing puzzles me a bit. If I look at that slomo throw in this video, the wrist starts out in a maximally extended position, but almost immediately during the throw, it starts to move toward flexion. Not "locked" at all imo.
How does gian van veen throw like he does tho 😂
Love how all these experts are american sounding, probably AI. There is no correct way to hold a dart, its unique to each player. Wish these videos would just stop, there shite!!!!
But isn't that exactly what we tried to make clear in the video? Besides, not every darts fan is from the UK ;-)
Bullshit. Everybody is different, and everybody feel and use what they like and what is the best for them
Mind your own business hahahaha😂😂😂..
so 8 minutes just to tell me: hold it however you like... well kinda not so helpfull xD but thx nevertheless
We would love to have a patent recipe for the perfect grip technique, but that's just the way it is. Sorry🤷♂️
