I think it can be interpreted as a person not being able to deal or cope with their trauma or drug addiction so they're pleading for someone to console and comfort them until the demons (mental anguish and psychological damage) subsides or calms down, exactly like when you're having a panic attack or something similar and your mom or significant other comes over and holds you in their arms until it passes and you calm down. Hence the line "so hold me until it sleeps" That's the summed up explaination, i could interpret ever line of the song but thatll take way too much time lol

Yeah! It's so artistic! Some people don't like this Metallica but It's evolution. When you're succesful you can now do whatever you feel like doing! I think that's why they are still playing and the other bands stopped. The word is innovation!!

They are both from the same album, and they’re both amazing, and heartfelt songs. In fact Metallica has a new live concert video of the outlaw torn, since the live videos are the ones you like the most. I really think you would enjoy the performance.

looks much like James is calling forth his personal demons..cautioning us to exorcise them to avoid lashing out at people, because of all the pain he and each of us holds inside.."until it sleeps" ( when the interacting demons, go below the level of consciousness, never to be fully banished from our souls)...BUT on the lighter side..thanks so much for adding your personal touch to this song..your intense gaze looks as though you are dissecting these images with your soul...you are more pleasure to behold and listen to than 99% of the youtube reviewers out there...best wishes dear one!!!

If you like Gothic symphonic metal, you will love the band Nightwish. Start with Ghost Love Score and then the 20 minute epic Greatest Show On Earth which is about the big bang and human evolution. The lead singer, Floor Jansen has the most incredible voice you will ever hear.

Yeah I know, I ment that the Melodic Death Metal genre contains diverse artistic musical expressions (lyrical, imagery and performance) and she seemed to like expressive music
This is probably the time where James was the most open about himself out of all the albums they made. By this time he was dealing with alcoholism and was being thrown out of his own house by his wife. You can really feel the anger and the despair in the lyrics, also the way he delivers those lines is very emotional and expressive. Load and Reload are usually looked upon but to me they are very intimate and mature albums. Very different from the 80's Metallica for sure, but equally emotionally charged. I dig those albums because I can relate a lot to those lyrics and their content in general. Bleeding Me, The Outlaw Torn, Until It Sleeps, Hero Of The Day, Low Man's Lyric, Unforgiven II, King Nothing, Mama Said, Fixxxer, The Memory Remains and Devil's Dance are absolute bangers to me. I hope I helped.
He was thrown out way after the production of Load & Reload, in the early 2000's at the time Jason left the band, but I agree, all those song like "Outlaw Torn", " Bleeding Me" & "Until It Sleeps" were some kind of sos message from James who clearly was not happy about many thins in his life.
He is so protective, not open, I mean even his lyrics not obviously telling what exactly he means, so only who knows his personal story’s could guess. Thank you for sharing
@@IYOU If you wanna get more into Metallica, check out the documentary Some Kind Of Monster. Is based on how Metallica kept going with the production of their new record of the century (St. Anger) at times without James who was on rehab, without their former bass player, the great Jason Newsted and how the overcome all that. It shows maybe too much personal things of Metallica, but if you love the band, you gotta watch it.

There were Trying Different things with Load..and I Loved the..renaissance type stage..play throughout..but..I was not too into..the LOAD and reload albums..But ..THEY ARE MY INTRO TO,METAL AND MY FIRST CONCERT EXPERIENCE SO I STILL,RESPECT THEM for the MUSIC THEY CREATED..

His mum died from cancer, but I'm pretty sure he said it's about addiction... I may be thinking about another song, but The God that Failed is about his mother dying from cancer

I’m in the minority, but Load is one of my favorite Metallica albums. The previous stuff is great, but after a decade, it was kinda standard. I enjoyed the band venturing into new directions.
You should try listening to Rammstein, they are a popular German speaking band that make great industrial metal music while putting on probably some of the best shows I’ve seen. I’d start out with songs like “Du Hast,” “Mutter,” “Engel,” “Feuer Frei,” or “Deutschland” and then you can go on to the more intense ones.
Metallica is it. Got all their albums starting with Kill them all (with the bonus tracks).
Anything from the band Opeth will bring forth some dedicated reaction followers for you. The song "Faith in Others" would be a nice and safe start.
