This was my first car. My twin brother and I restored it back in 1988. We choose the colour looking at Halfords spray cans. Used it for a couple of years as a daily driver.then done the restoration again.nut n bolt job plus plenty of tuning upgrades. Was a great car...show winner and got featured in Triumph World magazine..Great to see it again.

Remember seeing it ( and photographing it) at SODIT.

Very very nice and rare, especially in that order, a stand out Dolomite, like the Sprint, and clearly been loved and looked after.

So clean, you don't see these in the states, I remember seeing them last time I was in the UK as a kid 1980 ish..sweet car. 🚗

The Sprint alloys were not standard on the 1850HL ,so these are a welcome addition. Plush interior and seen at the time as the poor mans RR. for there comfort and trim. Loved mine back in the day.

I used to live in London and woke up one morning to find someone had stolen the wheels of my Dolomite Sprint 😂 They are great cars 👍

Hardly a poor mans RR. Triumphs were very pared down vehicles with only a thin layer of luxury on the top.
If you wanted to get a more authentic poor mans RR then strangely the Allegro VP of the same period had that essence of RR despite being housed in the most bog standard of under pinnings.

Do like the Dolly, a mate had one new on a W plate in red with black interior very smart and went well.

Took all my driving lessons and test on a Dolomite - '79-80 when BSM ran these and minis as driving school cars. Still remember the reg - JAR289V. Not an 1850 but still seemed very nippy to a 20 year old who'd not driven anything else!!

Ditto learnt to drive in one of these BSM in York 1979 , great little car 🚙😊

Certainly not a Sprint, but whether I leaned to drive in a Dolomite, Toledo or a 1300 is now a matter of conjecture.

Back in the day, I can't remember ever seeing one in metallic brown. But looking at the paint code on the plate (AJJ), it comes up as Amber Bronze metallic, so perhaps it wasn't a popular choice.
Nice looking car; Sprint wheels look good, not so enamoured by the Triumph laurel, but it's been looked after by someone, so it was their choice.

My old car, it's painted in Ford Tibetan gold. It's a nice car but has a few sunken filler areas here and there. Mainly on the boot lid. It was a good runner when I had it and sounded nice with the stainless exhaust.

Shame about the laurel on the bonnet. Never a standard colour so what was it when new?
Nice but as always these had a lot of P38 in them back in the 80's so I would want to know the front end was new - famously rusty.

My old car. Looks gorgeous and runs well however the boot lid has a lot of sunken filler patches when viewed up close. It's been painted in Ford Tibetan gold. It's a good car for sure but not as mint as it looks here. If you google the registration number it's been about a bit.

@@Mike_Ockiner Ah yes the boot lids ... It never crossed the mind of the folk at Canley to paint inside the box sections.
My last one of these was a W plated Sprint in orange - paid £300 for it. Somewhere around 2002. Anyone got a time machine....... never thought they would be a sought after today.

Id a Dolomite 1500HL which was a beautiful car, so nice actually that my mum loved it to bits and loved being chauffeured caround it .... Had it for 3 years and sold it to the lady next door when i bòught a Mk1 Grabada 3 litre Ghia

    • @tillyfoxtrotter

I have lost count of the number of Dolly's I have owned - the 1500 was nice but the bottom end was seriously weak. I always sought out the 1850 but if a 1500HL was for sale in the local papers then I was there with some cash. Happy days.

Metallic brown wasn’t an original colour and the bonnet decal is from a TR7 . Nice car but please keep them original!😢
