- Working on a 13 year old Mercedes C Class today! Mainly focusing on cleaning the dirty engine bay and wheels. I think it's pretty safe to say the engine bay hasn't been cleaned before and the wheels, well, at least it's been a long time since they've been cleaned too!

I'm always afraid to clean my engine bay like that, i'm scared its gonna ruin something like the alternator or anything electrical, or leak water somewhere it shouldn"t be (330d). But your job is amazing.
all of the mercs have the brain at the back of the car so you dont have to worry about anything but cars like mine(opel insignia) the brain is right next to the engine. when you decide to clean the engine bay, you have to cover it with a plastic bag or smh then youre good to go

I tried doing it on my 2016 C250 AMG and had bad experience lately, water went straight to plugs. I started experiencing weird acceleration and loss of power when I floor it. I diagnosed it only to find this code (P0302) which means the second plug was damaged with a bit of rust. I replaced all plugs, since then I’ll never attempt to wash the engine bay
You should wrap important electrical systems such as the alternator to be sure. No use in following someone's example and then having potential issues because of it.
As far as detailing goes, Vermijl gets a 100 out of 10. Suburb work!
These were the best C Classes Mercedes ever made. They feel rock solid and drive so well. My dad has this exact one with 320,000 kms on. The interior looks brand new and so does the exterior. It has aged so well. I've seen the newer C Classes with so much rattles and peeling interior bits. They don't make them like these anymore.
Apart from their big rust issues, they are quite reliable and solid.

Ik it's not a c class but I think the 190 is the best one I'd argue it was the first c class
only the engine is sold even with oil leak, main issues are rust, electric problems and automatic transmission problems.
This is one for the books...job better than well done...and the Benz looks better than brand new...great video and even better job..

1a) What you will do if you have a car battery in the engine bay?
1b) You will disconnect the terminals or not?
2) Will you wash with the engine surface which locates motor candles or not?

Great therapy to watch! Beautiful job! My 2015 Mercedes engine is so dirty- apparently parking in a windy, tree lined, dusty town did a job on it. My car won’t start now…. Going into the shop. I’m so embarrassed for them to see my engine - but this inspired me to try and do some cleaning beforehand ! Thank you !!

Nice detail.People neglect their engine bays, but actually cleaning your bay will keep your engine a little bit cooler. All that debris and dirt traps heat..👍🏿😎

Job very painstakingly done. But I have a question. Wouldn't it be easier to hoist up the car on a 4 post or a hydraulic ramp and remove the wheels and wash both sides of the wheel rim and wheel wells and also do the bottom of the car as well? I find it interesting that all of you start from below and go upwards. The Maruti Suzuki owners manual says wash form above down and the service centers follow it.

I'm afraid to spray my engine bay like that, isn't there a risk water will damage some electrical components?
Imagine you are doing a long journey at high speed in wet conditions. All the spray will get into the engine bay. The components are designed to take it. Just avoid direct high pressure in the electrical connections and it’s good practice to block the air intake (he pushed a black cloth into one in the video). I do mine every few months. I like to spray GT86 on afterwards. 👍🏻
It doesn't rain " ON AN ENGINE" WATER IS HITTING VERY HOT PARTS UNDER THE CAR -Like- CONTROL ARMS AND SWAY BARS AND ALL OTHER FRONT END PARTS.. NOT THE ENGINES alternator and "ECU"... Then again Its probably completely safe to spray distilled water or regular water on electric parts of the engine
I’ve been doing it for a while, just don’t spray directly onto electrical parts or put a microfiber towel over the electrical parts, wiping your engine down won’t get everything that’s why pressure washer is the best result just make sure to cover everything up and start your engine after you finish

Good work mate but I still have some concerns for the environment. What kind of cleaner do you use? And have you looked before all connectors and circuits on gaps or something like that? Since a decent amount of water has moved through the engine compartment, but the plugs did not do well^^ Maybe next time go to a washing area.

Just don't use a high pressure jet washer when rinsing.

That green brush makes engine bay cleaning super easy.
Blocks one of the two air intakes.
And I'd add a large colourful 'Remove Before Start' tag lest it get sucked into the air filter when inevitably forgotten.

Every time I see these engine cleaning videos,
I wonder what happens to cables, plugs, control units...
the moisture doesn't just disappear like that
You really just need to make sure you don’t flood the intake with water. Other than that all control units, connectors, etc have seals. The engine compartment is not water tight.
they get corroded if you clean your car like that frequently,most people will say but hey thats what also what happens when it rains but they dont realize that the rain doesnt contain heavy chemicals like these and is not thrown with the same pressure as of a pressure washer
Here in SoCal almost every single time I see one of these older C250’s they’re always clapped tf out and dusty. If you get satisfied off of detailing ASMR , you can only imagine how satisfied I am seeing one of these dust buckets get SANITIZED 💀

Did you unplug the battery? I’m still struggling on how to prepare everything for a proper engine bay cleaning.
Not needed so nothing happens to the battery if it gets wet or in contact with any cleaners on modern cars. If you got an older car wich has any open air filters cover them up before so that they don´t get wet or in contact with any cleaners. Also be careful not to flood the alternator and the spark plugs if there are no engine cover and be careful with the engine belt. ^^
There are also diffrent methods to clean your engine bay. It isn´t always necessary to "flood" the whole engine bay with water. If you are afraid you can just use spray bottles or pump sprayers with water to rinse down some areas or just wipe the dirt down with some old "microfiber"towels after brushing it with the cleaners. :-)

I’ve just fixed the rust myself above both rear wheels - it’s well worth doing for $100 yourself 👍
If you don't cut off and weld the rust will come back. I have got s class 2005 and rust was everywhere as well . Shame for mercedes ..

I once made the mistake of pressure washing that exact same OM-646 diesel engine on my CLK-220 CDi and the car refused to start.
Water damaged the cam-shaft sensor according to the OBD diagnosis. Fired up after a new sensor was installed.
I had never done an engine wash because I was afraid of damaging the electronics but some guy convinced me otherwise...never again.

Break Buster can be used for cleaning the entire wheel instead of using 3-4 products. Would safe time and money (of course except the heavy dirt)

Do you always use brake buster after MWC? I find MWC really great but it’s not quite enough for my 6 piston brembos with dusty pads. Before I tried MWC none of the alkaline cleaners would touch the dust.
I’m thinking of using MWC in a pump sprayer. The Koch sprayer is very narrow fan out and the product is viscous.

Not sure if they were ever replaced. The owner told me it was a 2009 but apparently the car is slightly older. It does have a fairly low mileage though.
