I purchased a C40, and my reasons were different from the features covered in this video. I ordered on-line with a definite delivery time and no markup over MSRP. Communication from Volvo Cars USA throughout the delivery process was excellent. I will also benefit from a federal tax refund. All those characteristics are becoming more difficult to find but can be extremely rewarding. Also I now have Apple CarPlay running on my C40! It works great!
I have a C40 too and the Dealer/manufacturer experience was the reason I got this over the Kia. I will say I am very pleased with the regular OTA software updates. The most recent one gave us Carplay and updated the drivetrain to improve range. I am getting another 10 or so highway miles from it.
Bought an XC40 last October in Australia and so far have been very pleased, its better now we are getting monthly over the air-updates and love the performance. Would love more range living in country western australia but still have managed to make it work with no pain. With one of the updates have already picked up 5% efficiency.
I have an Ioniq 5 and my husband has the polestar 2, both are cousins to these 2 cars. I love my Ioniq for it’s quiet ride, better ev tech and roominess. My husband loves his P2 for the faster acceleration, better handling and compact size. He says it’s the best bmw 3 series he’s had. However it’s loud, inefficient and lacks range. We only use it for local drives. We take my Ioniq 5 for road trips bc it’s a much better ev w longer range, MUCH faster charging and quieter ride.
Apple Carplay became available in the Volvo C40 (and XC40 Recharge) with the (over-the-air) version 2.2 software update earlier this month (July 2022). I test-drove a C40 today that had it.
How is your Ev6? You comment is 8months old. Did you run into some problems with your Kia ? How did you manage your charging? I’m thinking if buying a gt line rwd any suggestions or tips? Thanks
The EV6 is a strong rival to Model 3 and Model Y. it would be my choice right now in the GT-Line AWD trim or even the Wind. I'd back-uff the Teslas based on price and lack of tax incentive on top of that. Model 3 RWD is compelling, but Wind trim makes more sense, even if the platform isn't quite as efficient or lightweight. The EV6 makes me look forward to the future and to the next gen of platforms to follow.
I own a C40. My neighbour bought an EV6. I like the look of the EV6…BUT build quality of the volvo is light years ahead of Kia. My other car is a Kia Soul EV, and after 3 years it’s a plastic rattle box. I love the volvo…I’d buy it again in a heart beat
Volvo build quality? You gotta be kidding me? Volvo have some of the most unreliable track record on the car industry. Also, you can't compare an entry level car like the Soul to the EV6. Soul is a $25K car. You're going to get some rattling. The ONLY thing Volvo has over the EV6 is Safety...and that's a big maybe. Otherwise, EV6 wins in virtually every category outside of off roading, which nobody in their right mind would do in these cars.
Interesting. My wife has 2017 SoulEV. No rattles or other problems what so ever. 100k on the clock and the interior looks pretty much like brand new, despite kids and dogs riding in it all the time.
The Volvo XC40/C40 looks so good. Too bad the range is only 225 miles. If Volvo cuts the price by $10k or increases the range to over 300 miles, it would be at the top of my list for my next car.
You have to go to the next gen. Volvo's OTA updates will help but the platform isn't dedicated EV. The price Volvo probably needs to charge to try to make a profit on the EV-versions of the XC40. (and C40 is a variant of XC40)
You and many other reviewers have noted repeatedly that using the switchable infotainment/climate controls on the EV6 can be a nuisance when using a control knob because the knob's function switches back and forth. I suggest you might try setting the default of the infotainment/climate controller as shown on page 5-77 of the EV6 owners manual. That way the control knobs will more consistently have the same function (unless you just recently changed it).
Yeah, I have not felt the dual knob functions to be a problem at all because I set a default, then you just know what the function will be without looking.
Never had so far any problems but I am 173 cm and weight 70 kg, I am a smaller person and I do not need to place my hand on the center console to adjust A/C and Radio etc. I just have it right on the steering wheel. The ‚problem’ is a created one and does not exist for real owners that daily drive this car and had many premium brands before, stealing our money for high service costs like BMW, Mercedes, Volvo. So for me and my wife with 152 cm the car, view, seats, haptic feel, material choice is just different from the old fashioned rest. While the displays are to deep for us in a Volvo, in a Mercedes EQE in sunshine there is a catastrophe. And all the ugly fingerprints everywhere. And also our intelligent HUD you cannot get from Tesla, even for money. The frunk on my EV6 holds a 5 meter cable and the Vehicle to Load plug. The Mercedes, BMW or VW and Audi have none. Here the Volvo builds unnecessary for good drag higher than what would be perfect for an EV. In Germany for long distance travel Kia got the highest index ever of 1,03, EQS 0,92, BMW iX O,91, same as 2022 Hyundai, Porsche Taycan 0,90, Audi e-tron 55 quattro 0,63, Polestar 2LR single motor 0,73. Tesla Y LR was at 0,74 and to compare a VW ID.4 0,57. Tesla has theoretically the highest charge rate with 250 kW (Kia ,only‘ 240 kW max. and stays high a longer period than most. The Tesla on supercharger had 146 kW average only. (Source P3 Charging Index study, not falsified by drivers with a lead foot on the accelerator). This and foresight while driving, climate even set to 21 centigrades is key for any EV.😎🤓😜✌️
I would probably go for XC40 over C40. Always wanted a Volvo! Don't know if you can buy them, you can't get a EV6! They won't even say how much it cost, so I am guessing its like Ioniq5 with AT LEAST 1 years wait.... But I have seen EV6 out in the wild, I really like how it looks IRL!
Volvo is direct sales. So you don't have to worry about dealers. I think this is very fair. Volvo is an older design and shows it. It's not a ground-up EV and shows it. Volvo needs to get the noise level down as does Polestar. Volvo has a European ride but it can also be a bit more supple in some ways. I'm a Volvo owner but I think the EV6 is the better buy here. Volvo's next-gen needs to come out. Their current gen EVs are showing their non-EV roots. Kia is knocking out home runs and is a very exciting brand to watch.
In the USA Volvo exclusively sells via franchise dealers and so does Polestar. Although they are changing their model in other countries this does not seem to be changing for either brand in the USA.
@@EVBuyersGuide I don't think that's correct for Volvo's EVs and for Polestar, all information I have found is that Polestars are not sold at Volvo dealerships or Polestar spaces.
Volvo dealers are not polestar dealers, so that is correct that you cannot buy a polestar at a Volvo dealer. However all polestar dealers are franchise dealers, they’re not direct sales. The only franchise dealers that were eligible to buy a polestar franchises were existing Volvo dealers however. That was necessary because all vehicle servicing happens at a Volvo dealer for both brands. Anything you have heard different than this either does not apply to the North American market, or was incorrect
one of the things most miss on the Volvo/Polestar EV's is the reason they are heavier, it isn't because the C40 is a similar platform to a gas car. It is actually because the battery is fully modular, each section can be removed and replaced individually. To me this is HUGE, yes it helps with better vertical legroom but also if anything goes wrong with the battery or if you are in an accident they can just remove the battery pack module that is damaged. I found out this is why my insurance on my Polestar 2 is so inexpensive, my agent said any Tesla is basically totaled in any accident because of the battery pack's lack of modularity.
Definitely my EV6 AWD fully loaded is after comparing the best choice and plays in another league than Volvo still legacy design. Charging with 800 Volts like Porsche Taycan and Audi GT e-tron most features of a Tesla Y and suspension dampers same as used in Mercedes AMG and Maserati so far. This car definitely challenges even double price EQE Mercedes but drives better, has silent A/C and only rear wheel steering is missing. The air suspension on my comparison drive was not remarkably different. Volvo was not to compare to both other cars and do not forget that Albert Biermann for 30 years boss of BMW M Sports was responsible for the EV6 handling and on narrow mountain roads with many curves the Kia seems one class smaller. With Volvo I had no advantage there with the little more power. Since May I drive with a max. of 14,8 to 16,8 kWh per 100 km. Highways here max. 120 km/h. Regen is better than Mercedes EQE and Volvo and perfectly adjustable. After all, most serious competition here cost 10‘000 to 65‘000 CHF more and as a business and private car decision is easy made. Kia offers 7 years of warranty and Mercedes, Audi and Volvo.😎✌️
Can I get both? I like the Volvo exterior, but prefer the Kia interior. I like the Apple CarPlay support on the Kia, but want the route planning on the Volvo. Sadly, my next car needs to be able to road trip five people in comfort. So, the real answer for me is “neither”. Looking forward to the EV9 vs XC90 Recharge, though.
Seems like the Kia is the clear winner. Charges faster, much longer range, and more room inside. Maybe availability is better in the Volvo? I’m just searching for a reason anybody would buy one.
@@fbp452maybe so. But I believe it’s 60k to get into the Volvo. One can get an EV6 for the same or less. I could be wrong though. At the end of the day everyone likes what they like and can buy whatever they like.
The C60 looks better. Subjective, yes, but you wanted a reason. Also Android Automotive is much better, and has a lot more potential for future expansion, than Kia's outdated infotainment interface. Other reasons...OTAs, Google navigation routes you to chargers along your route, battery preheats when a DC charger is part of your route.
I was very much interested in the Volvo, but the range was basically a non-starter for me. I enjoyed the Kia when I was able to test drive one, but the dealer markup practices have completely turned me off of ever buying a Kia. I'll just have to wait for the market to cool off(if that ever happens) before I truly consider buying an EV. I really enjoyed the comparison
Of the 2 I'd take the Kia EV6. Pluses are extra room, faster charging, longer range, efficiency, and the massive dual screens. I would choose it despite the mode button HVAC to entertainment switch and lack of navigational help in charging info. An app can correct that somewhat, but I would have preferred it to be built-in. Even so, I like the Kia better.
The mode switching isn't great, but it's better than putting those things on the screen like the Volvo does. There are also a few "buttons" at the left end of the Kia's panel that are there all the time - like defrosting.
@@markmiller3279 I agree. Going through menus takes longer than multipurpose buttons. And it toggles a series of two functions so it's just one extra push to toggle the functions.
Ordered my C40 after I also tested Polestar 2, EV6 and Ioniq 5. Found Kia/Hyundai too "plasticky"; the handling of the menus (and the position of the screen) are seriously complicated and inconvenient, esp. while driving, and all the warning beepings and flashy animations were just plain annoying. Whereas in the C40 it's very smooth, simple and easy to use, no drive modes or recouperation modes I will rarely use anyway. Simplicity as a design choice. Build and quality is also better on the C40, and 10 inch is a LOT of unneccessary space/length if you don't have a family. C40 might be a bit more pricey, but it's a CAR, not a computer/gadget/tablet on wheels (THEMES for the speedometer? why would I need that?). And the "homey"-feeling is far superior when you get into the C40 (btw, also much better than Polestar 2). So you might get used to the Koreans, but C40 felt "right" on first entry. Plus, as others have mentioned below, Apple Carplay is now available in the C40, they do monthly OTA-updates - a feat the Kia/Hyundai can't even do to this day, afaik. Btw, efficiency also gets increased with OTA, some users report ~300 miles with a full charge by now on the C40.
There is a solidity of build, maybe a robustness, that Volvo has. It's not that Hyundais and Kias aren't built well but Polestar and Volvos seem a measure more solid IMO.
Is the c40 inherently better than the polestar? Rented the PS2 over the weekend and came back mostly impressed, but I felt the infotainment was quite laggy … especially compared to Tesla
@@Momo_8k The infotainment on the Polestar is better integrated than the C40. The Polestar is sportier. The cars feel feel similar except the c40 is a crossover and handling isn't as sharp. .
I have the EV6 Wind AWD, never drive in eco and do not drive efficiently and usually get 3.7 - 4.8 mpkW. I drive in normal 65% and sport 35% of the time typically.
Great review again , I have gone with Volvo C40 , which has now got Apple CarPlay a couple of days ago , 1 big point you overlooked and for me was a big plus for the Volvo is the electric towing hitch just press the button in the rear trunk and out it comes , the Kia is very awkward to put in and you have to get on your knees to fit the the socket , the Volvo socket is on the tow ball so very easy to fit . Yes the range in the Kia is better so that was a concern with Volvo , but the biggest factor for me over the Kia well it just looks so much nicer and has the heritage to back it up.
Me and my wife love driving C40. Android auto is quite good and Google assistant is very convenient. I especially like that it does not have gimmick features that just looks good but not of any real use. Simple and great:) range is actually not that bad, we are able to score 200 miles on 80% battery. Any EV range depends on weather conditions. Overall very satisfied.
Great review thank you! But let me update the C40 for you that I just bought a month ago with some new goods and bads. The goods- And I will say GREAT and that is Volvo gives the buyers a FREE Sim card and FREE 4 years usage! Absolutely awesome and real world use is Google maps without using your phone. This alone may tip the scales for some buyers. Good 2> Has Apple Car Play now but even though I am an apple guy I almost dont need it with the upgrade to Android Auto. My phone has auto synched through Android! 3> Agree on the efficiency but literally the C40 COASTS so effortlessly even at high speeds that I have gotten 245 range with 7% left on a long term test! And since EVs are ALL sold on driver need, I would say that most people will have an EV and a gas powered car for long range- so I put the Volvo in my daily driver and with that means most of my charging is done at home. I live between Austin and San Antonio and the range is perfect for me. Everyone's mileage may vary- LITERALLY. 4> I like the lean on the Volvo to SUV and higher seating position.5> The EV6- especially the rear end just tries to hard to be futuristic and looks butt ugly (pun intended) to me- side view is very good but I like the Volvo better as far as looks go- obviously subjective. Now for the Bads. Not many but significant. Bad 1> That "panoramic" glass is useless and HOT. In Texas at least- I mean SCALDING hot- LAWSUIT hot! other parts of the country maybe no big deal. But while it holds the heat well it still needs a cover- I am going to an upholstery shop and they will insulate and cover it. Either go with a regular sunroof or none- these panoramic things- especially one without a cover is useless. The XC40 recharge DOES have a motorized cover. Bad 2> Why do EV makers think we are out to save the planet? I am not buying an EV to "save the planet" But so many (BMW/Lexus/Volvo/ some Mercedes) are now using "sustainable" material on the seats. And I think thats bullshit. The rest of the car? No problem but the SEATS are A> not up to the usual plush Volvo standards and B> they RETAIN HEAT and in the hot summer your back sweats against them seat backs! Recycled material is PART PLASTIC in the fibers and it is not great in the Texas Heat./ The AC blows cold and thats all good but your back WILL sweat. Again in cold Climates (Sweden lol) no issues. But in hot climates- no way. Ill take leather any day. Those are my updates to your great review. I am happy with my Volvo (my first one so not a fanboy) and once I insulate the cabin a bit more I will love it. Thanks again for the great review.
Totally agree on a couple of points. The ‘save the planet’ mentality that reduces the quality of many of the materials used. Me too - I like EV’s for the power and instant torque. I couldn’t give a hoot about the emissions side - it’s not going to make the slightest difference to the climate. Give me leather! And the hot seats. My current Hyundai Tucson has cooled seats, costs half the price, and they’re fantastic. Really don’t like the idea of spending so much more to get a car with lower interior spec. 🤷♂️
$60K for simplicity and a legit MAPS i will most likely never fight with, or $54K to fiddle around a mobile tablet accompanied by the plastic feel plus the extra range to keep reminding me how I actually over paid at $60K for it!! not enough headroom in the back?
I`m drawn between the XC40 (yes, not C40) and the Kia EV6 Gt-Line... I think I will get the EV6 for more range and space. Btw. what´s going on with this "over MSRP"? Never heard that before. I never paid more than MSRP, always MSRP or below, regardless of hot popular the car is. Also the KIA EV6 and IONIQ5 are MSRP, even they are very popular and waiting time is 6 months or less.
Awesome videos as usual. I just have one question since you have the ability to test all of these EVs, which EV would you recommend? Mustard Mach E? I know from your previous review, you owned one. Thank you!
The best ev’s are on the dedicated ev platforms like Kia ev6 . Volvo is on combustion engine platform that is not ideal. It looks like quick fix heavy not go far car . Kia is the winner 🥇
I was briefly looking at the Volvo but when I found out that it's smaller and more spartan on the interior, I stopped looking. The EV6 is also one of the few EVs in this year's offerings with a functional sunroof instead of being just a "fishbowl." Volvo is a great name but that reputation came from and developed in Sweden. Nowadays, your Volvo is built in China. Nothing wrong with that but it's certainly no better a nameplate anymore than a car built in Korea. I bought the EV6 based on the reputation of the Hyundai/Kia group. I've had 5 Hyundai cars in the last 35 years and been happy with every one of them. My present 2017 Ioniq EV is still like new in every respect so I had no hesitation about staying in the family. Waiting for delivery of my EV6 and happy with what I have for now.
Only the Volvo for the Asian market are built in China. The European and USA vehicles are built in Belgium. I can get a C40 in 3 months - 4 to 5 weeks if I don't want a towbar ... but the EV6 and Ioniq5 are currently 12 to 18 months wait. I checked this for each this very week.
@@mdshovel Good to know about where the Volvos are being built. Not knocking the Asian manufacturers but it’s nice to see some of the assembly happening in Europe as well.
^^ This. I have been curious about this for a long time. All testers seem to have different methods. Carwow seems to have the most objective/repeatable method. Alex seldom answers comments, but imo viewers deserve an answer because Alex's numbers seem to be lower than most.
I drove the C40. It's very impressive but that view through the rear window is basically non existent. I'd go with the XC40 recharge every time if you love the Volvo. Re The Kia EV6 AWD. That vehicle is really impressive and it's 10k dollars cheaper than the Volvo. Re Volvo software. Didn't Google design the system themselves?
10:36 Volvo supports CarPlay as of this week, July 13, 2022! Also since you've already reviewed and rated the XC40 Recharge, there shouldn't be any surprises with this C40. Cabin noise in the C40 is louder than the XC40 at 50 mph at 73dB vs 70dB? Shouldn't the coupe shape be quieter?
No. Volvo does not get Geely "hand me downs." in fact, Volvo technology goes to Geely brands. Volvo is making their own platforms and does their own engineering and manages their own cars. You are mistaken to think that Volvo is getting Geely hand me downs. They are a close to autonomous brand in their own division of Geely Holdings (ZGH).
KIA cars were produced too fast. Batteries Management System is suspect, high risk for fire, so KIA recommends charging outside, the BMS kills the 12 volt, KIA brake lines are suspect and recalled for leaking, overall perception of prestige is blunted because it’s a…..KIA. The C40 is lovely but battery is inefficient and the 10K for the top model is 10K too much.
Loved the review, as always. Volvo is more a luxury wannabe than straight luxury. Old tech, so and so interiors, lack of innovation. They continue to thrive on inertia of safety topic, but these days most cars are just as safe, if not safer, than Volvo.
Volvo's next-gen is going to change all of that. The new large SUV, all-EV platform Volvo will be introduced in the Fall. however, you're wrong about Volvo safety/crashworthiness. It's still one of the best in that regard though the XC40 didn't do as well in a revised side crash test as a Mazda.
$60k for a vehicle is pretty steep to get into an ev. People do all kinds of silly decisions right before recessions. Unfortunately the $10k car era is gone. Now the cheapest is like $17k.
So basically Volvo took the petrol body shell, and converted it to battery. The charging socket is where the old petrol filler used to be, and the transmission tunnel is still there in the way of rear seat passengers. What a bloody scam. And what an ugly lump.
I own an EV6. So after watching this entire video, I'd still pick the Ev6. I'm not going to discount it's great looks, quick charging, modern tech, active safety features for a Volvo. 😂
Is it really though? 400v platform was perfectly fine until the kia came out with their 800v platform, and fitting a 78kwh pack in is nothing to be ashamed of. Well over 200 miles of range in both the kia and volvo are plenty for most people, and the volvo is slightly quicker than the kia. This was a more than adequate first attempt from volvo. Volvo was able to skip over the low range crappy CAFE ev generation and made a real competitor to all the other ev manufacturers. Just wait until they develop a ev dedicated 800v platform similar to what polestar is working on.
If you focus solely on charging speed under optimal conditions, perhaps. If you focus on infotainment technology, Kia and Hyundai are way behind. The Kia/Hyundai integrated navigation is garbage and doesn't auto-populate chargers along your route. Android Automotive is much better and has room to expand through OTAs, something Kia and Hyundai still don't have.
@@trevorv9035 I was more addressing the initial comment about Volvo's technology. Volvo's tech isn't that low right now but the platform is hindering it. I think with the new gen, then they'll be more competitive. Still, Volvo's never about efficiency and more about a Swedish/Scandinavian-design premium car that offers class-leading safety. And with the last gen, lots of style.
I'd go with Kia for better efficiency and technology overall. Also, I like Sweden, but some Volvo cars are now made in China by Volvo's parent company Geely. Good luck with the Chinese quality control.
@@JustMe99999 Really? Not even the batteries? When Chinese firms buy US firms they always move production lines to China to reduce costs. I have no reason to doubt your answer but the move will happen soon or later.

The EV6 is such a disappointing car - the comfort is inexistent, it's very loud with speeds over 30 mph and you can feel every hole in the road. Volvo is a higher league of comfort.
I feel sorry for electric car drivers and future owners. They will simply have to learn the hard way .. as I did.
I agree
I found out this is why my insurance on my Polestar 2 is so inexpensive, my agent said any Tesla is basically totaled in any accident because of the battery pack's lack of modularity.
e-GMP cars (EV6, Ioniq5, GV60) also have a modular battery.
Thanks, excellent review, really balanced and very helpful. I've just ordered a Kia and your video helped me make the decision
The C40 now has CarPlay support in the US (and other markets), thanks to the latest OTA.
Seems like the Kia is the clear winner. Charges faster, much longer range, and more room inside. Maybe availability is better in the Volvo? I’m just searching for a reason anybody would buy one.
You can buy the Volvo at MSRP, no markup compared to the Kia.
@@fbp452maybe so. But I believe it’s 60k to get into the Volvo. One can get an EV6 for the same or less. I could be wrong though. At the end of the day everyone likes what they like and can buy whatever they like.
Yup. Hyundai seems to just behind Tesla in tech. Wish the car was taller. I’m too old & it’s hard to get in & out in such a low car.
I prefer vehicles with amber rear turn signals - all Volvos have them, and the Kia EV6 does not in the US.
Yep, choose between a premium brandt or a Kia. The lower cost at loading doesnt make up the rest value difference
Alex, "Better Coupe-like Crossover" is a paradox I simply cannot process. 😂
Wait your replying to a non-Toyota EV review? Better get used to it?
Just ordered a C40.. in the end I just preferred the look of the Volvo.
I also share the same opinion … I also tested all of them and in my opinion c40 is a very solid car
The cars feel feel similar except the c40 is a crossover and handling isn't as sharp.
.
Ok we get it Alex, you love Volvos 😀 I’ve never been a fan of the styling.
You must be in Europe - in the North America we don’t get the hidden hitch 😢
Me and my wife love driving C40. Android auto is quite good and Google assistant is very convenient. I especially like that it does not have gimmick features that just looks good but not of any real use. Simple and great:) range is actually not that bad, we are able to score 200 miles on 80% battery. Any EV range depends on weather conditions. Overall very satisfied.
Ev6😁😁😁 I've ordered one, and next car would be taycan cross turismo😍
I'd pick the C40 every time. It's just too beautiful to opt for a Kia anything lol
Nice video. Please wash that EV6 Alex 😀
The camera seems too shaky in this video. Something seems off in this one.
The EV6 offers more for less money. Range, vehicle to load, charge speed and style, its the EV6 for me.
Manifesting some rich kid buying a Fjord Blue 🪣 C40 and selling it to me in about 3 years for half the price 🤞🏽
$60K for simplicity and a legit MAPS i will most likely never fight with, or $54K to fiddle around a mobile tablet accompanied by the plastic feel plus the extra range to keep reminding me how I actually over paid at $60K for it!!
not enough headroom in the back?
Volvo C40 my choices in futures
I would easily choose the EV6 over the Volvo
My Volvo C40 has a steering wheel vibration very bad when you drive 65 mph, Felt UNSAFE to drive, especially at high speeds
Great reviews and comparisons, subbed
Alex, I love you reviews but I'm not sure why you have a separate channel(?) just for EV's. Doesn't seem necessary, but you are a very sharp guy.
for me, the best electric car I've seen is KIA EV6
here in Canada, the c40 is 72k and the EV6 awd gt line top trim is 62k.
I believe that the Volvo has amber rear turn signals in the US. I know the Kia EV6 does not. Volvo wins for me!
Kia's electric vehicle technology is far superior to that of volvo.
I have the same EV6 as Alex :d.
With only 6” of ground clearance, can’t really call the EV6 a crossover.
i dont get it..why do you want andoid auto in the volvo when the system itself is android
The XC40 is not a crossover, it's a dedicated compact SUV it's not an SUV version of anything.
The Kia easily wins
Ev6 is better by miles
@@mdshovel
Good to know about where the Volvos are being built. Not knocking the Asian manufacturers but it’s nice to see some of the assembly happening in Europe as well.
Wow it just unbelievable how volvo is behind the rest in EVs
What about resale value? I would think that Volvo will stay higher in price.
What do you use to measure 0-60 times?
^^ This. I have been curious about this for a long time. All testers seem to have different methods. Carwow seems to have the most objective/repeatable method. Alex seldom answers comments, but imo viewers deserve an answer because Alex's numbers seem to be lower than most.
Love the c40
I drove the C40. It's very impressive but that view through the rear window is basically non existent. I'd go with the XC40 recharge every time if you love the Volvo.
Re The Kia EV6 AWD. That vehicle is really impressive and it's 10k dollars cheaper than the Volvo.
Re Volvo software. Didn't Google design the system themselves?
Safety first for me
EV6 ALL THE WAY……
Polestar 2 should have been in this.
Why? It’s a sedan.
I too was surprised.
Great video!!
The Enyaq Coupe is nice as well.. do review it .
I think this is a US based show. Skoda isn't sold in the US.
I was planning to reserve C40 then I decided not after I saw display. Naahh looks so dump
EV6 😍
EV6 all day long!
Hyundai is such a huge company I see EV innovation now between them and the big 3 in Germany. Poor Volvo will get Geely hand me downs
C40 :)
EV6 AWD fully loaded is a lot faster than the C40... you cant compare these cars the EV6 is out of the C40s League....
Volvo is a complete niche company if you do not want a Volvo first nothing about their vehicles are appealing
Superb
The C40 was good EV 5 years ago. To me it looks obsolete and poor value. Poor infontainment, about 200 miles of range, boring interior.
So basically Volvo took the petrol body shell, and converted it to battery. The charging socket is where the old petrol filler used to be, and the transmission tunnel is still there in the way of rear seat passengers. What a bloody scam. And what an ugly lump.
My Chevy Bolt will beat either one out! Oh, and they are probably thousands of dollars more!
The nose on the Volvo just looks wrong
should be a black grille and not the color, seems like it should be different than the hood.
I own an EV6. So after watching this entire video, I'd still pick the Ev6. I'm not going to discount it's great looks, quick charging, modern tech, active safety features for a Volvo. 😂
2024 C40 will have more range and rear wheel drive. Test drove the Kia but it was very sparse and plastic’y like the Tesla.
Kia dealer wants $10k over MSRP, so the C40 is an easy choice.
Volvo's electric vehicle technology is very low.
@@trevorv9035 Coming this Fall but car won't be available until next year.
@@benjaminsmith2287 and?
@@trevorv9035 I was more addressing the initial comment about Volvo's technology. Volvo's tech isn't that low right now but the platform is hindering it. I think with the new gen, then they'll be more competitive. Still, Volvo's never about efficiency and more about a Swedish/Scandinavian-design premium car that offers class-leading safety. And with the last gen, lots of style.
God who pays $60 grand for a Kia?! The fit and finish looks so cheap compared to the Volvo.
kia ev6 the best car....c 40 is a car but ev6 is dedication 👌

I don't like EVs that won't let you turn them off
I'd go with Kia for better efficiency and technology overall. Also, I like Sweden, but some Volvo cars are now made in China by Volvo's parent company Geely. Good luck with the Chinese quality control.
C40s made in China are for the Asian market only - the rest are made in Belgium
None of the Volvos for the EU and US markets are made in China; they're made in Europe. Please don't spread misinformation.
@@JustMe99999 Really? Not even the batteries? When Chinese firms buy US firms they always move production lines to China to reduce costs. I have no reason to doubt your answer but the move will happen soon or later.
@@yogi4319 Not sure about the batteries, but I am sure if you look at any car you'll find components that come from China. However, the Volvos for the US and EU markets are built in Belgium. Design for the US and EU markets is still in Sweden.

The EV6 is such a disappointing car - the comfort is inexistent, it's very loud with speeds over 30 mph and you can feel every hole in the road. Volvo is a higher league of comfort.
I feel sorry for electric car drivers and future owners. They will simply have to learn the hard way .. as I did.
