They nailed this addition to the game

There’s no driver
@@kaidenthesoup good point!
I see scrapman going for 1% in every race in screwdrivers
that would actually be a lot more interesting than trailmakers 1%
@@rltt379I like the trailmakers videos better tbh
Yup true. Nothing beats good old trail makers. @@verglas7
@@verglas7 the usual videos or the top 1% because top 1% got boring with how repetetive the builds are
The loud whining noise of the transmission like that of an RC car is so satisfying..! Reminds me of the legendary BMW M3 GTR....
What? you never heard of worm gears ? :O the purpose of wormgears is not only to change the gear ratio but also to make the gears work in "one direction" meaning if u make it so that it drives ur wheels with a engine then you cant make the wheels drive the wormgear.
the torsen differential works on this concept its basically a mechanical enhanced limited slip differential
Yeah that's crazy, it's pretty much everywhere in all machines.
It was like seeing a baby trying to put a cube inside the circle. 😂
(No offence to ScrapMan, I love him ;)
But... that's not really a factor in this game, is it? Power goes out from engines, period. So reversibility is not really a factor of concern lol
Funny enough he has used them for a long time on his live, guitar tuners are worm gears 😅
@@luisleongaming1776 maybe, maybe not. never the less its always a good idea to understand the physics of what ure building with. it can help you out in a pinch.
Is the axles moveable ? if not, maybe they will become in a future patch. which would make it possible to make a gearing using worm gears instead of shifters.
Please make an AWD version next video and maybe even switch to sport suspension. Will help on steering!
I want to see you make something with higher overall acceleration. First gear is always cracked but it drops off so soon. Make it where the average acceleration across multiple gears is really good.
The biggest problem with final vehicle is basic suspension. Any upgraded suspension would be better for traction, steering and bump negotiation.
I was screaming that at myself the entire episode!
Built a zero suspension truck frame and wonders why it handles like a truck shaped brick.
I don’t think he realizes that the suspension is heavily based on weight. That was driving me nuts too
That's basically the process with ALL his builds, it is night and day when you compare his creations to Kan's (or was it Komodo? It is been such a long time since I saw them)
You can use the corner to make a differential for you vehicles
it wont work. the differentiale effect is built into the suspension. thats why he can run a solid axle between both rear wheels
@@MrLarsgren we only have the spur and ring gears for the diff anyway. so it's doesn't even matter. we would need 3 more gears to spin with the ring gear for it to do the thing
@@TheObsesedAnimeFreaks oh i know. built diff in scrapmechanic. moonbo showcased one in his gear video. the last build
Is it even possible to build a differential in this game? The parts needed to build one 1:1 aren't present, and I don't know how to construct one with simple gears that take power from a perpendicular axis.
You should try to spread the low gears a bit further while making the high gears closer
I like how you're surprised every time you get in the high percentages. My brother in Christ, you play video games for a living. Most of which are centered around car building
I think Scrap is the epitome of the saying "It is hard for a dumb person to play smart, but it is easy for a smart one to play dumb". Basically, he is pretending to be dumb... or he doesn't know how smart he truly is.
So many updates to this game now! It's slowly becoming more and more intuitive to even people like me who don't really understand how to build good gear systems.
I'm surprised you didn't try switching the worm gear around and seeing what happens then. If worm gear to normal gear is a lower ratio, any gear to a worm gear should get you crazy top speeds, right?
in real life that would work. when you're using worm gear, you can only rotate worm gear that rotates other gear. in reverse it wouldn't work since the worm gear can also acts as a brake, but idk how the game would take that.
@@tigrote100 you could just have the engine spin the other way, but I don't see how it would even lock up irl
For some reason the game allows you to do it, so yeah it does give some pretty good top speeds if you can figure out how to connect it properly in a vehicle. Only downside is terrible torque.
@@rltt379 the screw's angle is usually shallow enough that backdriving it is practically impossible. If it were closer to 45 degrees, it'd be a different story
@@tigrote100 @rltt379 No, it would not work. The worm is on such an extreme angle that the gear is basically pushing a wall. You can try it with Lego if you don't believe me.
With 3 planetary gear and worm gear setup, u want to reduce the speed and increase acceleration overall, then u might try having the 3rd planetary gear inverted for higher torque and lower speed. This way u get a overall lower speed and overall higher torque
High torque is high speed when you do it in reverse
Sadly he never seems to have grasped the simple concept.
You have never heard of an obscure soviet autoprom creation that used big worm gears instead of wheels to get around mud and sticks and all the off-road?
It can't be.
Screw tank? Yeah it's not as obscure as you think.
Colin Furze made one of them 🤣
@@Grunk-ik9os He never heard of it. The proof is in the pudding.
@@Grunk-ik9osIt's not a tank, it was just a cargo and personnel carrier.
Make your car all wheel drive and add more down force, cover the front wheels and cover the back exposed gears, I'm a mechanical engineering student in sweden ✌️🙂
Add some weights under the car a bit front of the centre of mass
Missed off the turbo chargers on the power plant and no electric starter motor either, may make a huge difference
The engines were given a hitbox 2 updates ago. If you mount any part of them below the axle line they will hit imperfections in the terrain.
in terms of calculating gear ratios a worm gear counts as a 1 tooth gear and a worm gear cant be driven by any other gear it can only be driven through being on an axle
19:24 I never noticed the player icon on the map flipping in 3 dimensions whenever you hit those jumps
Just a thought; keep the planetary gear setup you have, add a worm gear to the output shaft and use that in conjunction with a small gear to shift the output 90º for your rear differential and slap some tires on it. 27:12
Glad i'm not the only one that was struggling with that race. Can't wait to see what you do for the cloudjumper. When i last checked a week ago i had 4th place in A class on that one, (actual car, not a plane/prop-car for the curious, height was 177m). I figure you'll work out how to totally break it.
Also wheelspin costs acceleration compared to no wheelspin.
I think Scrapman is forgetting that you can use gears to speed up or slow down the axis. So I suspect the worm hear could be used for some insane gearing up.
Acceleration probably
The way worm gears are designed they actually can’t be back driven. They can only be used for gearing down and not up.
Real life worm gears can not be back driven
The new crown gear will allow for gearing up in a 90 though
@@caydoncargill3989 But is that true in the magical physics of the Screw Drivers world?
@@HurricaneLanternput the transfer gear on the crown on a gear shift and you have forward/reverse by switching edges of the crown.
Why not better suspension? only using the most basic version, which doesnt take corners or bumps as well!. Same car with better suspension would smash the race
The top10 times on the leaderboard are either using, the starter, the small offroad, or the big offroad suspension. All suspensions have the same turn angle.
@@K10wNs-Shed true, but with scrap's particular final build, the downforce is pushing him into the bumps on the road and slapping the hell out of his car, the small offroad might be better for this particular build than the simple sus.
@@2flocker All suspension types bottom out to the same height when you put downforce on the car. The hitting the ground is because the engines have been placed below the axle line. Two updates ago, the engines were given hitboxes. You used to be able to hang them low like he has them, but not any more.
I find it crazy how people manage to make gear boxes this good and better....
Is that the largest wheel? You need 4 wheel drive. The planetary gears might be too much of a gear change. I think 6 gears with smaller steps would be better. Have you tried 8 wheels?
Too many gears is slower, since shifting gears means you aren't accelerating.
What really would be ideal, is something like two, 2 speed shifters, for 4 gears, with the max speed in top gear being about as fast as you can manage on the longest straight.
That maximizes your acceleration, maximizes your top speed in the straight, and minimizes shifting.
@@Nevir202 True but the spacing of his gears are horrible. He is wat to big of a step between 1st and 2nd and is just wasting so much of that power.
@@toddabbott781 Yup 1st should be a lot taller. Once you can't keep traction, it's all wasted.
Now I want to see top 1% videos on Screw Drivers as well, that would be very interesting!
Love seeing scrapman grind with a goal like the last race
It would be sick to add active aero with the servos and pistons tbh. Ive done a bunch of active aero builds and they work insanely well around turns.
He should put pre-made engines from the workshop into his cars! Who agrees?
The advantage of worm gears is that you can create a gearing system with massive amounts of torque which if geared up from there will lead to massive amounts of acceleration. They will be great for super sonic builds.
That's not really how gearing works. You either gear down for torque or up for speed. Not both at the same time, then you're back where you started.
10:53 this would be interesting to translate into an AWD design
its really funny to see the marker on the minimap flip around
I feel like the issue with the design is that the wheel base it too long. If you raised the engine by a block you'd be able to pull those front wheels way in to just under the engine and get much tighter cornering. You'd be doing the same with the rear axle, raising it by a block letting you fit the worm gear more neatly into the system and pulling it in by a block or two. Your center of gravity would go up, but also the distance between it and your center of mass would decrease, aiding in controlled turning (If I've remembered my physics correctly). The other thing to consider would be to put a spoiler or two rotated 90 degrees on the Z plane flanking the motoron either side, to get some more downforce while turning, as you seem to lose a lot of control while doing so.
rack and pinion steering uses a worm gear inside the housing to turn your wheels
Ohh i didnt know that, i assume that is done so that counter steering forces arent able to move the steering wheel in corners? Does this also help when crashing? Since iknow in formula 1 you can break your hands if you hold the wheel in a crash, do they not have a wormgear in their rack and pinion setup, but just a normal gear?
@larsrademakers6070 I know that rack and pinion in some designs get rid of a power steering pump, probably the electric rack and pinion, the idea is smooth torque with less parts and less weight. As far as Formula 1, I'm not sure, forces in a crash are being acted on the tires directly so that may have something to do with letting go of a steering wheel in a crash
@@J_Loom yeah the f1 part i know for sure, the bars the wheels get hold up with often break giving immense forces to the steering bar, but fair enough, thanks for the explanation
Rack and pinion doesn't use a worm gear, it uses a 'rack' gear which is basically just a flat gear with a pinion pushing it side to side. There is a type of steering gearbox used mostly on older cars called a 'recirculating-ball' mechanism, which uses a type of worm gear, so maybe that is what you're thinking about.
You can use your repair to stop a spinout, if you time it right you save time over fixing then getting the right orientation.
this video gave me the idea to make a 18 gear car, i did it and now i have an 18 gear car that can go at 2 times the speed of sound
This was a hard battle!! We got builder Scrapman AND Gamer Scrapman in one vid again! Let’s go!!
worm gears can go from worm gear to large gear then small for top speed, and itll work because the worm gear will have tons of torque
I started playing srewdrivers cuz you give me inspiration for vehicules to create and i love your content
You should make a differential for max steering capabilities
You need to put your out put differential under the transmission so you can create a bit of clearance for the bottom of the car and then if you put a skin over it you will have better aero
Video idea:
Try to replicate ww2 Japanese plane. Kyushu J7W Shinden
Video idea 2:
Try to go supersonic with only the worst aerodynamics
Maybe you should try to change the suspension
Worm gears are probably good for drifting
i would love to see logics in screwdrivers, it would help me make a good drift car
i used a closing mechanism to lock the box into my car. its still like you add 500kg to your car that makes it top heavy. Maybe i will add more motors and more weights at the bottom.
Oh those will make it so much easy
Surprised you didnt try going from a regular gear into the worm gear for the opposite effect
Could you make a rear differential for more grip?
it wont work. the differentiale effect is built into the suspension. thats why he can run a solid axle between both rear wheels
@@MrLarsgren could he build better rear suspension if he could ditch the solid axel?
@@OurCognitiveSurplus no. the game have some odd calculations. i even tried seperate power source for each wheel and in dont change anything
imagine the selecting highlight was added to trailmakers, i think it would be a lot easier to sellect the right parts.
I haven't tested the new way to make gears since the update, your idea seems pretty good, gonna test that out :p
Add more downforce at the front and add an electric engine at the front of the 4 cylinder engine
You should put wing pieces on the rear of your car to keep you straight
Youll get fast like a rocket soon ... might as well have the stablizer fins
"The Gigantic Bridge" race was accidently reset by the devs last update. Should be fixed in the next update.
Hell yeah screwdrivers!
could also just reverse it and power the normal gears into a worm gear
worm gears only work one way
@@ap0llo.0ne51 i am aware, what i meant was instead of getting slower rotation and more torque by powering a worm gear into a normal one you could place the worm gear next to a powered normal gear to speed the axle up which the worm gear is placed on (could be useful for electric engines ig)
@StorkRL IRL it just breaks the geartrain. In Screw drivers, _shrug_ test it out!
Can you do a Drone battle next?
Now we need a to 10 in screw drivers
I think the point of the 1x1 gear direction thing is to make seperated axels, like if you wanted to make a 4wd system or something
That combined with the gear plate...nice!
i love driving screws 😋
As if these new parts were to give you multiple different ways to add front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, propellers, and so on? You know, make parts and axles move when at 90°angles? Possibly?
the car doesn't get the strength when it needs it, I believe that's why you're so slow coming out of turns, maybe that's an issue with fuel engines. On the other hand the car seems to be really nice to drive. If it got the acceleration in turns as well this would be a monster of a vehicle ngl
The GOAT scrapman
If you press delete when racing it resets you at the last check point
lol long wheel base doesnt like small turns, looks good but if you add frontal down forrce to maintain the steering and even a manual rear counter steer for when you want the tight turns...MAYBE...just dont 4 wheel steer at high speeds
Looks like this may be the last time I watch a video of yours, you tube Law finally caught me using Ad block still. I refuse to pay for premium and I refuse to watch ads so most likely I will just stop watching youtube in general.
So so long Scrapman, You have been entertaining to watch over the last 5 years or so. Helped keep my mind off things when life became really hard for a while a couple years ago with the loss of my Mom. Take care.
This game is super hard to get gold on, at least for me. Then again I try to make nice looking cars with good gears instead of maximum power and downforce.
You couldve used the crown gear instead of the 90° ones that dont mesh
Press delete to respawn at last checkpoint
It's understandable when a solo dev is dislaxative. He's been reading and typing so much stuff it's all just a blur at this point.
And a lot of the typing is just ticking in the first few letters and it will finish it with a tab or so (like in for example visual studio code)
@@larsrademakers6070 that too.
I mean, proof-reading exists for a reason, though. One, it looks highly unprofessional to release basic spelling mistakes on a comercial product and two they're very easily rectified.
Just saying, if I would have gotten points off in school/college for the same mistake, I have to take some points off for the dev, too.
man if that were a real screw drive mechanism. it would be so hot after a race that it might fail from fatigue.,
I want to see a propeller powered car.
Still need to be abel to change control and flip in more axes and is realy incredible
My best was a hybrid with 1456 speed and 145 acceleration
I accidentally forgot gears multiply, not add and did 12 5-1 ratio in a clock. 5 quadrillion to 1 is well beyond its processing. Interesting results
knowing how good a racer scrap is, I know I'm going to struggle on these new races!
Make a drift car in screw drivers
Good job
I think your vehicle is really missing a second carbon wing in the front, causing understeer at higher speeds
They called me the Worm Gear back in college!
You never told us that screwdrivers is free to play!
Love the vids
Should have reduced the length of the car when you got rid of that planetary gear. Reduced mass and better turning radius. Probably should have added more aero for better acceleration and turning as well.
I'd like to see you try using some of the moving pieces to make air assisted steering or breaking. there is one vehicle in the normal races that has assisted steering.
If you make a car that goes 200 kph with gearing but no transmission with a lot of engines, do you think it would be good enough ? I remember the beginning of the game, with a couple of small electric engines and big to small gear you make a solid 100 kph vehicle with consistent torque, why not apply it to a better gear ratio, you only need one more big to small and boom 200 kph, from that point just add engines till you satisfied
Do a differential steering with the new gear
scrap, you need to use the bigger suspension to prevent that bounce destroy from happening, the game doesnt like it when you bottom out your suspension, you get too fast and bump the mesh of the ground. 32:06
Scrapman can you do all weel stearing
Play screw drivers with your friends
HELLOOOOO I AM FINALY NOT LATE OMG OMG 9 MINS AGO
Redo the plane evolution, but Inspector Gadget strat(and anything similar) is banned for being too op.
He hasn't made a screw tank with the screw gear yet
20:12 Wow you really over-complicated things here, you could have just used the other new gear that looks like a plate on the wheels axle and use a small gear right after the worm gear.
Wouldn't building a second rear axle reduce the wheel spin? Don't know how complicated the game makes doing that or how much it'd mess with steering, but more rubber pushing the power should help right?
0:30 FINNALY SREWDRIVERS ADDS SCRAPMAN'S SUGGESTION
You need a moving spoiler
I hate it when my gears are ragular. It just seems so mormel. 😁
the screwdrivers devs added a steering limiter so if you go above 60, you get basically no steering at all. so don't go above 60 in a game where you can get a 3 gear car to go over 1000 mph
The "steering limiter" is probably you not having front downforce or too much downforce on the back.
@@larsjrgensen5975 I tried to fix that in a few ways.
Making an F1 wing in the front (double carbon on each side), moving the engines in the back and turning the car into a front wheel driver, doing the weight glitch with the 200kg weights (like 20 weights on each side) and also forced my center of mass to be more towards the back.
All separate at first, and then combined all but the last.
Even tried to abuse the oversteer from softer suspension while at it.
Nothing worked, still heavily understeer when I go above 60 mph.
The suspension isn't great for turning Scrapman!! You could improve your time more
