Interesting. I'm not a fan of the whole concept of Idol groups in general usually. Recently stumbled across Necronomidol and found out I actually like some of their stuff, this song included. I can totally see someone not liking it though. You're right, it DOES sound monotonous but in this case that lends itself well to the Gothic style of the music and the somewhat bleak and, well, RITUAListic theme they were going for. It's certainly not something I'd listen to all the time, I still don't like the concept of idol groups as a whole, yes, it probably wasn't necessary to have 4 vocalists for this and I much preffer seeing bands play their own instruments but still... I like this *shrugs*
Thanks for giving them a second chance. I also didn't know much about them and after your first reaction I had to research more of their material. After doing that this one came up coincidentally. I agree with your take on their back catalog mostly. This one I agree with you and made the same comment on the original video about it being flat throughout. But overall I thought showed a directional change from their previous material. They are young and have had several member changes it looks like. It could they have found a sound they can build on. I will keep checking in a them with fingers crossed. Time will tell.
A fair review. There ought be a place in a song in which it lunges out of the trenches ot looses it a bit. I liked Strange Aeons more. It seems darkwave has more tesile strengththan this and ought not slip into lipstick ennui.
Alt-Idol has its peculiarities, fans do not necessarily look for what people want from a band. BUT, could you react to a new band, Hanabie? It's a Japanese all girls Metalcore band that, well, I think it will surprise you. 花冷え。「我甘党」(Hanabie - We love sweets) th-cam.com/video/G18yyvPCiTM/w-d-xo.html
@Death Pop I saw it now after you spoke, the tag is working. I think I mistook it for another channel, I usually check it before asking. Anyway, there are still the MVs Envy, 令 和 マ ッ チ ン グ 世代 and L.C.G. Thanks for letting me know.
I am surprised that you did give them another chance. To bad it was this song. I can't for the life of me figure out why Ricky (the manager/producer) picked this track for the video. Anyway, here is what I have on my website about the tune: walkinshadow.com/ritual/ The song itself is actually pretty repetitive and not really about anything but a rather nebulous ritual. Probably the worst song on the newest release. The short-haired girl, Shiki, has now left the group and Roa, with the ponytails is on hiatus, who knows what will be happening. I do know that at the next live show on the 27th of April they will be introducing some new members so we will see what happens.
