The boat is very special and was designed specifically for this purpose, by a local Alaskan who knows the river very well. The boat needed a very strong engine, the ability to travel in shallow water, and to be able to withstand hitting lots of large rocks. It is an amazing boat. Thanks for watching.
They have been running for years and I have never heard of them having any safety issues. Camped in Talkeetna just a few weeks ago actually for a little weekend trip. They had the boat parked while I was there.
Boat I wish I could take up the Ottawa river rapids snd into the great lakes or the ocean for some big wave testing. I think it would be a perfect boat in 10-12ft of waves to move people around efficiently.
Thanks for watching! This jet boat was specifically designed by locals in Alaska who had lots of experience with the river and the rapids. The boat's hull was shallow and flat - and it had a very powerful engine plus a very experienced driver. I don't believe any other boat could manage these rapids.
Back in the late 50's Don Sheldon landed his airplane above those rapids and floated backwards through them to rescue some military boys who thought they could run a motorized boat up the river. "“As the plane backed into the first of the combers, I felt it lurch heavily fore and aft. It was like a damned roller coaster, the water was rolling up higher than my wing tips, beating at the struts, and I could barely see because of the spray and water on the windows. All of a sudden the engine began to sputter and choke, and I knew it was getting wet down pretty good. If it had quit, I’d have been a goner, but it didn’t.”
... all these comments about risk. Ever drive in public traffic? Ever fly anywhere? This (jet boat trip) small risk is worth the reward, get out of your shell and live a little. Do it now, before it's too late
Glad you enjoyed this. It was Mahay's Jet Boat Adventure - Devil's Canyon. In Talkeetna AK. We will check out the Shot over jet boat. Looks like the New Zealand trip is a bit wilder and wetter. This one spends a lot of time cruising through the Alaska wilderness to get to the rapids (which have been "ridden" only twice, with near disastrous results) - no people, lots of wildlife and early settler stories. I think there are too many big rocks in the Alaska river to go really fast.
For a second I thought he was going to gun the engines and attempt to take the boat into the upstream rapid. I was thinking that wouldn't be a very good idea.
daman 71 they been out of talkeetna this a long long time. It’s not that dangerous really and a boat that size is pretty safe. And they do shuttles for fisherman at 60$ per person and drop you off at clear creek which is a quick trip. These devils canyon trips are probably only certain times.
Yes, you probably would! Note that the boat was specifically designed for these rapids by Steve Mahay who was the first and only person to navigate the Talkeetna Canyon and he was lucky to survive.
If they went in that water a lifejacket wouldn't do much. People talking sh*t about something they have no idea about. Typical internet tough guys and gals
Thanks for watching our video! (There were life jackets on board.) While most of the excursion was the boat ride - we did get to sit on the open window within 10 feet of the rapids which was amazing. Had to totally rely on the sturdiness, power and design of the boat and the skill of the driver.
you been on that boat? Any boat that can maintain position against the water onslaught coming over that little rock ahead has plenty of power. Yes, I've been on it.
@@nancycarlson8303 I've been on it also. Three times. Israel, the pilot, is totally professional and I believe is the only one to pilot that boat. When he turns it around, he asks for silence and gets it, so he can concentrate on his job. Live jackets on board for each person.
Legend has it that old man Mahay ran a boat all the way up thru the canyon, no one else has succeeded or had the balls.
It's a real fantastic boat,I like it.

one of the greatest experiences of my life was riding on that jet boat

Thrilling ride 👌👌👌
Yes it was
What a amazing machine and great driver!

He was an amazing guy. He flew my grandparents in to a remote are of Alaska where our family cabin now is.

ever been in a boat that flips over in a rapid? with no life jacket,, all over rover
FATSMITTY.... BEEN LIVING RISKY AT McDonald's for Years...
I will have to try this. But the most thrilling boat ride there is on earth. Is the shot over jet boat. Queenstown new Zealand.

The boat has 3 motors,1000hp ,44ft long .. would take allot to sink and chances of 3 engines failing at once is pretty slim..
Ого, очень круто) всегда мечтал прокатиться на таком!) привет из России)

Should have gone over those upper rapids.
For a second I thought he was going to gun the engines and attempt to take the boat into the upstream rapid. I was thinking that wouldn't be a very good idea.
The jet boat company would have huuuuge liability insurances...still though, what a trip that would be.

Right like zero safety gear on anyone either
Good Job Captain. "What if" you meet a 6' Spruce log?"
Hope nothing ever happens boat all ways gots a bk up motor kick in
I would die if I tried that with my 20 ft.

Why would y’all not have any life jackets on anyone ?!
There were life jackets available - relatively safe inside the boat - so did not need to wear.
If they went in that water a lifejacket wouldn't do much. People talking sh*t about something they have no idea about. Typical internet tough guys and gals
Passengers aren't wearing life jackets? Can't believe that one. Wouldn't want a mechanical failure in that part of the canyon.
wydryfly well thats on the passengers should have brought there own
That company should provide the life jackets it’s their boats 🙄
@@jasontucker2558 It's a commercial tour! Outfitters are responsible for the passengers' safety and provide jackets.
must be rather tame, no life jackets in view

Lol, no jackets. Their little bubble of no trouble is invincible.
Life jackets in class five+ rapids on 70 year olds is just a way to help recover the bodies!
nobody has on a life vest ummm

You're right, a mechanical failure there and those people are toast.
Nope
People are such wussies
Too big a boat, too many people, not enough power, and not safe.
The boat dose have enough power otherwise it wouldn’t be able to do wat it did also it was designed for this type of river😌
been on that boat, its a 1200 HP Twin turbo diesel
