Dude.... I've been listening to this band for more than 13 years and I've just now realized the yellow on this album art isn't just a splatch of color but the silhouette of a man 😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣
Old world underground where are you now Subtract my age from the mileage On my speeding heart, credit cards Accelerate, accumulate Looked for you downtown Wound up in a movie with no story Now it's late And you are nowhere to be found Hesitation's always mine Hesitate outside the times With all I don't say With all I don't do I'm sending you Invitations to hesitate too Every ten year-old enemy soldier Thinks falling bombs are shooting stars sometimes But she doesn't make wishes on them When she wishes She wishes for less ways to wish for More ways to work toward it Ten year-old enemy soldier Our falling bombs are her shooting stars Hesitation's always mine Hesitate outside the times Oh call me or drop me a line Say you've been with me Say you've been with me Say you've been with me This whole time Old world underground I never knew you But i've seen your face everywhere There was a farm before we tore The small town down Multiply divide
Emily Haines is honestly the most chill, down-to-earth person. When I was in college, I went to a music event. I ended up being ditched by my friends, and hanging out with some random woman I met. Great times, great banter. Then about an hour or to in, she got a call, and had to leave because her band was up. That woman was Emily Haines, and Metric was the act of the evening. She never even mentioned it, was just a human being the entire time. She clearly hasn't let the fame or her beauty get to her. Hell, she was hanging out in the grounds when I met her, not cooped up in some trailer or backstage away from what some artists would no doubt perceive as the "plebian masses". Pure respect for Emily and Metric. EDIT: Emily, if somehow you see this, that due you hung out with for a bit that the 2019 Phoenix show says hi! I'm not even sure if you remember it, I feel like you have bigger things on your mind (being a professional artist and all that) but hey, you never know!
It hasn't been that long, but this song was a major piece of my childhood. The original magic it had with me has faded to some degree, but I will always be grateful for Metric.
Gah, it's been 17 years already since I took a train to Cologne to see this new cool band from Canada. That was a *fine* concert. They didn't play 'The List' back then either, though 😞
@@jandewit6455 @existialistremnant6231 Not long for me either, but I was probably 40? by the time I recognized how fundamentally satisfying early Metric was, and remains. I fast-forward on my random portable music all the time, and Metric always merits a pause and change to Artist focus. Godbless my nephew for nudging me in this direction.
I still remember buying the album 15 or so years ago when I saw a feature in the Toronto Star on the band (the first such profile on them, IIRC). Still one of the best purchases I ever made - I still have the CD, too.
This song is my memory of 2001 - 2003, the easy slide into The Forever War and a new sense of generalized, rootless alienation. Whatever, perhaps false, promise the 90’s held was dimming like late Autumn. Emily is a pop music poet on par with Neil, Leonard and Joni.
thenk you nephew Fin for playing this so much that I reverse-enjoyed. tough for a 37 year old to listen to a 14 year old, but he made the case, and I benefitted, and everyone was happy. And so much more great music followed.
I created a guitar show with music like this one time. It was snazzy. It could have had disco lights but noone helped me bring it to life so it is still practically a dream.

Oh my god. Idk what to think of this.
hahahahaha hasta que leí tu comentario lo noté x)
y también 13 años escuchándolo
@@michelletrevizoponce9109 that's right. Blown now is your mind 😏😏😅😅😅😉
It's a silhouette of Jimmy, the guitarist.
Wow.... been listening to them for 11 years and I just realized this myself!
Old world underground where are you now
Subtract my age from the mileage
On my speeding heart, credit cards
Accelerate, accumulate
Looked for you downtown
Wound up in a movie with no story
Now it's late
And you are nowhere to be found
Hesitation's always mine
Hesitate outside the times
With all I don't say
With all I don't do
I'm sending you
Invitations to hesitate too
Every ten year-old enemy soldier
Thinks falling bombs are shooting stars sometimes
But she doesn't make wishes on them
When she wishes
She wishes for less ways to wish for
More ways to work toward it
Ten year-old enemy soldier
Our falling bombs are her shooting stars
Hesitation's always mine
Hesitate outside the times
Oh call me or drop me a line
Say you've been with me
Say you've been with me
Say you've been with me
This whole time
Old world underground I never knew you
But i've seen your face everywhere
There was a farm before we tore
The small town down
Multiply divide
This album is fucking awesome. Saw Metric live and they rock.
I absofuckinlutely agree
I will also say..... you are absolutely 💯 freaking right!!

Cool story. Thanks for sharing!
Underrated story
The art in this song is so sensitive to the future we now live in.
What a great opening for an album. I love how the first lyric is the name of the album.
Actually the first lyric is *clears throat*

@@ivansnegireff6859 hi ivan
I wish that crazy tune at 3:31 kept going for 1-2 minutes more and then fade away... mind blowing ...
This was my favorite song senior year of high school. Good times. My heart sinks because of how long it's been.

And now it's more relevant than ever. The line about 10 year old "enemy soldiers" hits hard in the wake of what's happening in Palestine right now.
I get a little “Ok Computer” vibes from the instrumentation. I like it.
bro metric was my core memory growing up. my mom raised me on good music since 6 that’s 11 years
Every album Metric make is gold.
One of the greatest album I've ever seen...
Accidentally found metric on CD baby when I was 14 back in ‘03 and damn was I lucky
I love this album so much!
man it took me more than 10 years to find the name of this band, i´m so happy n.n
Old world underground where are you now just popped up in my head and then I needed to hear this

Esta canción me recuerda mis años en la universidad, realmente mi hermano las escuchaba y nos gustaba bastante.
Thinks falling bombs are shooting stars , but she doesn't-make-wishe-S on them. 🌙

One of the best songs of the record!
+wasakurabi I grabbed this on vinyl not too long ago, sounds amazing.

I like songs that feels like I'm dying and seeing my life pass before my eyes

Bu şarkıyı asla unutmayacağım.
