This song is a fantastic example of garage music done perfectly. There is zero technical aspects to this song and yet it's incredibly addictive. There's just enough differentiation between each repetition of the lyrics, guitar chords, and drum sequence to keep the song on the right side of repetitive. Every listen, you catch a subtle change to the repeating lyrics or drums and it hooks you back in.
I love this song so much. When I was younger, during this time period, I was all about nu-metal and post-grunge which was what was played on the alt rock station. I didn’t even know that bands like Metric and Yeah Yeah Yeahs existed until much later. Now my musical tastes have changed and I Iike stuff like this.
left nothing but praise for this band back when , for the ones in the cheap seats , yes they are the bees knees for sure , and will always be innovative and badass.
Falling for the creep, the body leech, here he comes Vicious hypnosis, clenched fist saying it's wrong To want more than a folk song Underneath the shaker knit, he's a brick wall She keep falling for the trick, vegetarian sing-along Give a little kick with your fine thigh-high Do-do-do, we're on to you Tearing her down, talking her down under your breath Making a mess See, she is happy you wanna break it Do-do-do, we're on to you Tearing her down, talking her down under your breath Making a mess See, she is happy you wanna break it Do-do-do, we're on to you Your phony roots, borrowed guitar Telling her what to think we are You're the number one wet blanket Hardly a day goes by you don't try to break down No, I don't buy it You're still around, I wonder why She just keep Falling for the creep, the body leech, here he comes Vicious hypnosis, clenched fist saying it's wrong To want more than a folk song Underneath the shaker knit, he's a brick wall She keep falling for the creep The body leech coming on Vicious hypnosis, clenched fist saying It's wrong to want more than a folk song I'm wrong to want more than a folk song I'm wrong to want more than a folk song Underneath the shaker knit, he's a brick wall She keep falling for the trick, vegetarian sing-along Give a little kick with your fine thigh-high Do-do-do-do Do-do-do, we're on to you Tearing her down, talking her down under your breath Making a mess See, she is happy you wanna break it Do-do-do, we're on to you Your bathing suit, borrowed guitar Telling her what to think we are You're the number one wet blanket You're still around, I wonder why You're still around, I wonder why You're the number one wet blanket
What genres of music would Metric fit into? Punk, electronic, rock.. is there another one? She has such a unique way of sorta talking in between singing. Seems like Regina Spektor also did this and.. Who else? Grrr someone, probably many others. But Metric have their own unique way of doing it. Feels like it could be a refreshing take on a few genres of music
Check out a (great) little band called "the muffs". It doesn' really sound that much alike but has the same kinda "vibe"... The muffs are a little more on the grunge side though.

Exactly!
Fantastic album; underrated song.
So many memories sitting in cars getting high just vibing to this album.
So true!
Metric has the best guitar riffs and vocal + guitar harmonization.

This song came out before I was born.
Still my favourite.
I love Metric and their music so much!
This is Metric doing their best impression of The Cardigans.

Metric is like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, only better
add to that synth-pop/synth-rock, and post-punk (which confusingly isn't punk, they really aren't a punk band at all).

serious question . . . is this song about wetting the bed? asking for a friend.
All rise for the Conservative Influencer Marriage national anthem.
