  • It's finally here, planting time! The White 6125 pulls the 6606 White planter, the 880 powers the fertilizer wagon, and seed goes in the ground.

Love planting corn. Favorite time of year, if all goes according to plan. Which it never does.

My grandpa taught me to always start planting at the back of the field when setting up the planter. That way its harder for people to see the skips and crooked rows from the road. 🤣

The first time dad put on the planter, it was way in the back 40. 😂

@ThatOliverGuyChris every time I ran the drill or planter, Grandpa teased me to no end about my crooked rows and the skips from not paying attention. I miss those days!

A friend told me he could loan me his light bar. I told him " then the neighbors wouldn't have anything to talk about!" 😂

@ThatOliverGuyChris 🤣 we had a neighbor that worked days and had his tractors lit up like a football stadium so he could work at night. We used to tease him about running a pto generator just to run his lights.

Thanks to your zoom technology, we see that your number 1 row left side gauge wheel has found a big rock in the past!

Yep. The inner ones have rock guards, and usually the outside isn't as bad since there is room for the rock to push away. Usually. 😂

Lotta guys are planting corn around here but rain slowed them up for a while, but our corn beans all here Central Iowa. They’re all planted but some places up north it isn’t the rain kind of hit them, but we haven’t had a rain for several years.

I'm seeing quite a few areas with rain delays. I'm glad I have in what I do, the forecast is not very favorable.

Sunday morning reset. I watch your camera locations and think that farmers, even in the day your planter was made, would watch each part of their planter operations with intense amazement and interest. Great video.

I always enjoy all the different views you show on your implements, it allows us non-farmers to understand how each piece works. Looking forward to a prosperous year.

Ahh springtime also known as planting season, my favorite time of the year. I wonder how many times duct tape has extended the useful life of equipment. I love the slow mo video on the planter.👍👍

Thanks! It seems to me that most farmers like harvest best. For me, it's planting season. Fresh air, dirt, sun, everything growing, it's the best.

Back in White tractor and planter, cool set up. Those pesky mice are a real pill, they can mess up a lot of stuff, left you a good surprise. Good luck on the rest of the planting. Thanks and have a nice day!

Wow. I never had anything catching in my fan on either of my 5100's. Good to see you getting seeds in the ground.

I've had mouse nests and dust buildup before. Doesn't happen too often, but it does happen.

Gotta love the mice. I’ve had them go up into the drill and chew the flutes out. Wish White planters had narrower transport widths. Great video

Thanks! I have dad's Oliver 343 6 row 30s, and that had end transport. I bet that seemed huge in its day.

Chris, it's good that you're able to get in the fields and start planning. I remember when I was a kid dad had a Oliver 4 row planter in the 60s I remember Dad stoping to checking the depth and checking to see if it dropped corn like it supposed to or beans. Thanks Michael

Love your videos, Chris, because they’re real deal. Other channel videos are good too, but there is almost a disconnect between me and the mega farmers with machinery I’ll never own. And they don’t know how to fix anything anyway, because it never breaks down.

We plant with a 6125 as well on a pull-type 8 row kinze 3000 finger planter. It was the the last of not one the last tractors sold at Wiggins Farm Equipment sold. It was sold new to the Smitts family to do row crop onion work and was set up with 50 inch back tires. They are one of the most nimble ever.

Good to see the seed going in bro, been getting plenty of wind down here in NZ too but thankfully not getting the rain like 2023 where I live. Safe travels. Ken.

Did you spray the field before seeding or after you’ve finished?

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

After on this field. It's mostly purple dead nettle and winter annual weed that will die soon anyways. The fields with cover crops will get a burn down before, if the weather ever cooperates.

I'm guessing since you're using White/Oliver in your grounds you will achieve optimum yields. Have you ever thought of acquiring at least one Minneapolis Moline to complete the family??

I've thought about getting a Cockshutt, but it would be an Oliver built one.

if you’re using 0% potassium, how ever will your corn survive being underwater?

That only happens in the first tier of counties in Michigan. I'm farming Tier 2 and 3 stuff up here, which puts me closer to the sun on the solstice. LOL!!!

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris

On board is definitely easier. Getting out, setting up cameras, then sifting through that video to get the best shots takes a lot of time. Time I could be planting. Setting up a tripod is probably the most time consuming. You walk way out to wherever you are going to drive to, set it up, walk back, drive past, then walk back to get the tripod and camera. Then you have 15 minutes of footage to edit to get the 30 second shot.
I had the drone with me, but the wind was strong enough I didn't want to risk crashing.
