- Season 1 Episode 1, 'May the Source Be with You' - Panic is breaking loose at Perma One as The Head summons Palindrome, Quark, and other starship commanders to tell them that they will soon do battle with their arch enemies - the dreaded Gorgons. The Head orders Quark to seek out and destroy the Gorgon's doomsday ship down to Quark's last breath of life! Upon further orders from The Head, Palindrome gives Quark the United Galaxies greatest weapon - The Source; a weapon with great powers and the ability to wage a fight between good and evil! Together with The Source, Quark finds himself able to vanquish the Gorgons and save the United Galaxies for another day. When Quark returns to Perma One, The Head promotes him to commander of his own starship, but when Quark finds that he cannot take his loyal crew with him, he refuses the promotion only to find The Head elated to comply with Quark's dumb request.

Holy crap I remember this show…… I’m getting old….
Ditto....
@@RollingThunder69 - I had to wait for the DVD to see the first 10minutes of this episode. The station with the rights had horse jumping on, a live event, and it ran over, so they just didn't show the 1st 10 minutes of Quark. And they never repeated it because it was 48mins long. Wow! That was 45 years ago! The memory is holding up. Nothing else is.
Same here... Getting old ain't for wussies 😂
61 here... I remember when it came out
58 here… I still hate the gorgons…
Poor Richard Kelton died the same year that this show aired, he was filming the star studded tv miniseries ‘Centennial ‘ at the time and had gone to his trailer to learn his lines, the trailer had a heating system that was not properly ventilated and he died of carbon monoxide poisoning
Unbelievable! Right there in your own dressing room on the Universal lot!
@@robvangessel3766 it actually happened on location in Denver, but yes due to someone’s negligence Richard died at 35, the incident happened in late November 1978 and it was very cold so some of the crew had covered the dressing room trailers with lots of very thick blankets and sheets to keep the warmth in, unfortunately this created the ideal situation for carbon monoxide to build up in one of the trailers via the generator directly underneath - this was where Richard had gone to learn his lines that afternoon and where he was found dead around an hour later. Universal were fined a small amount of money for the tragedy and paid compensation to his wife/child - such a sad and pointless death for a talented guy with a lot of potential
I knew Richard Kelton died, but I didn't know the details. Really sad to lose him so young. Appreciate the info.
I suspect that is the real reason it got cancelled after the one season. A major cast member dying wasn't easily handled back then.
WOW. Never knew this,so sad to hear how he died. Thanks for the info. RIP: Mr Kelton.
I've been telling people about this show all my adult life. My brother and I watched it when it first aired.
Ficus was a great spock send up.
Bucks Henry. Wow
Wow , really getting good use from those old Star Trek TOS sound effects .😄
If you listen, Star Wars is in there too, in the music.
This was one of those shows that premiered, ran, and was cancelled within the time my family was stationed in Yongsan, Korea.
I had learned about the existence of it only recently so it's cool to get to see a bit of it.
I loved Richard Benjamin in Westworld so I definitely would have looked at this had it been available once we returned stateside in 78.
Thanks for making it available now. I enjoyed it.
I loved this show when it aired. The Bettys. ❤
I watched this show live, back in the day. It lasted less than a season, I think.
The 48 min pilot, a "Star Wars" spoof; and then 8 episodes, and cancelled.
I love all the Star Trek sound effects
We didn't get this in Britain. What a good line up of known film and tv actors. Very good humour. Excellent 👏👏👏👽👍
”May the Source Be with You”
18:22 Wow!Henry Silva is apearing playing a cool role!😄
I haven't thought about this show in 40 years! Thanks
Getting old is better than the alternative, trust me. On my 2nd tour to Iraq, while performing a routine patrol our convoy was hit with a-MEAN-ambush by insurgents. The result-8 of my friends were killed and I was severely injured,I was flown back to our base for stabilization, then flown to Ramstein Air Force hospitol in Germany for further treatment. I was there for 3 1/2 months, then flown back to Ft Hood,Tx ( it's now called Ft Cavazos ) to be with my rear-d unit. After almost dying that dreadful day and losing 8 of my buddies,I don't DREAD getting older,I-CHERISH-it. LOL. You don't miss the water till the well runs dry. SEMPER-FI
?
Thank you for your service, Sir.
@@peterpaul231 Thank you for recognizing my service,it's appreciated.
In Aramaic Khubba means love. Khubba to you and yours. 😇🫂🙏♥️😇🇮🇱🇮🇱🫂♥️😇😇
This aired the same year I was born. I've never heard of it until someone recently told me about it.
D@MN - I've waited literally 40 years to see this - Thanks.........
Tim Thomerson, Richard Benjamin, and Conrad Janis, such talent on one show.
Haven't seen this since 1977 when I was 11. I remember it being bad but I had no idea it was actually this bad... This cast make Stormtroopers look like expert marksmen. And the music... sounds like the same composer from the Star Wars Holiday Special lifting bits of themes from Star Wars and Star Trek.
Lol...I was 13!!!! It might have been less than perfect, but ... I'd rather have THIS over the incredible NASTY crap they're spewing out now.
The guy who plays Paladin is the same guy who played the father of Mindy in mork & Mindy.
Yup. On his way to Ork.
Duh.
Palindrome
Richard Boone played Paladin in "Have Gun, Will Travel". Conrad Janis, here, played Otto Palindrome, and yes, he played Mindy's dad... whose name I can't recall right now! Nobody's perfect, especially me. Not being a dick, just offering info- except for Mindy's dad's name- alright, I'm partially a dick.
@@shaunbolton4662Fred McConnell
I've only heard about this in connection to Tim Thomerson but never knew of anyone who has seen it (only a couple who have actually heard of it). Really surreal to see Tim in this\these role(s).
I remember seeing this on TV in Australia.
I remember Tim Thomerson from weird movies like Dollman. This is the first time I've heard of this series.
i have looked for this for years!
"The Source? Is it dangerous?"
"Only if it's on your side."
The appearance and behavior of Adam Quark (Richard Benjamin) often reminds me of Mr Bean (Rowan Atkinson) in this show.
I remember this every friday night 1977, then after a year went off the air. 😂😂😂
That would be 1978.
@@Number6_ This show aired in May, 1977... a few days before Star Wars even came out.
@@JinzoCrash you may remember 1977, but look at the copyright date and the filming schedule. It wasn't even made in may 1977. Ink is more certain than a 50 yr old memory. 1978!
Yep back in the days. Of 3 channels to choose from 😂
Always loved this show despite it being very stupid!
Er mah gerd!! I never even knew this existed! Why on earth was it not broadcast in syndication in the 80s and 90s? And if it was, how did I miss it?
This was actually pretty gewd.
This actually exists....and I think I'm loving it 😊
The show.
Is really good to watch when you're drunk. I mean really drunk
Never give up, never surrender!
Never seen this before & actually enjoyed it thanks
the Barnstable twins were famous for being the doublemint twins.
The Bettys are cute.
Yes very cute.
I would like to take a moment to thank all the people of the 80's and 90's that helped put an end to the horrible reign of the despicable laugh-track.
Sadly, some shows today still use laugh tracks not giving people credit for intelligence when to laugh or not.
In this show it works. In fact if they made a satire like that today, harkening back to those days, they'd have to include a laugh track or it wouldn't be authentic.
Third Rock From the Sun paid homage to this show😊
When?
It's the music that sells it. They kept it quite orchestral, even with all the low budget silliness.
Somewhere between Star Trek and Star Wars
It's genius °•~.❤.~•°
Just in the first 5 minutes I could tell that it would have been underappreciated by audiences for the time when it was created
I actually remember this show.
That was the best thing ever. High art.
I was trying to think if I remembered this show, I certainly remembered the name. But then I saw 'The Head'. How can anyone forget him? 😂😂😂
Now where have I seen the High Gorgon before? And the ballbearing exercise seems familiar...But, of course, "The Source"! May it be with you!😊
Yeah... I was wondering about all that, too. When did this show originally air?
@@deadNightwatchman The pilot aired weeks before "Star Wars" was released, but this second episode aired in early 1978.
Happy birthday Richard Benjamin!!
Wasn't the actor who played Gorgon also on Buck Rodgers ( besides alot of other shows ) ?
I think Henry Silva played Kane in only 1 or 2 episodes, but he did a lot of movies.
Yes, same actor, I think his name was kane or khan, or something like that, I know there is a Star trek khan.
Anyone else think that the slides are an homage to U.F.O.?
I was 13, dont recall this show
I watched this show when it was aired 😁💀
Tim thomerson did the best Charles Bronson impression in his standup act.
Oh man , I am getting sick . The twins need to come with me !
Love is so punishing !
When he said ''we have a meeting with the head'' he wasn't joking was he!
Everytime I mentioned this show to people they have no idea what I'm talking about.
so bad it's good
I have never seen this before, but it reminds me a lot of Spaceballs.
This was funny.
Interesting that the Gorgon doomship looks exactly like the 'face' on Lexx
They borrowed from a lot of things; Star Trek, Star Wars, Lost in Space, Lexx, Enter The Dragon, etc.
@@lavern007 Lexx aired nearly 20 years after Quark, so if anyone borrowed from the other, it was Lexx.
@lavern007 this was before starwars
Thought it was just a fever dream.
Never heard of or saw this. :O)
I thought Henry Silva was slumming it. I was so happy to see him though.
Tim Thomerson! Dollman! Lester! Luv this guy. I missed this one back in the day. I'll have to scare up all the episodes for a binge night 👍
I do not remember this show. I hear laugh tracks too. I see Conrad Janis from Mork and Mindy is in it.
It's 'Quark and Mindy's Dad'...which preceded Mork and Mindy by a year.
El queso es muy blando.....yes, sir I like it!
I liked it back then , i like it now. Dumb but not nasty.
When I was 12, I tape recorded this episode and every one after!
My older brother would do that too. We didn't have a VCR back in the 70s so he would tape record some TV shows.
@@electronixTechsame here...lol
May the " Source " be with you.
So many interesting actors who played in other sci-fi that would come out much later for example the guy who's either the chief Gorgon or the Gorgon second in command is played by none other than the same actor who will play in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
correct!
that would be Gil Gerrard, although i am not certain of the spelling of the last name,
Gil Gerard. The lead Gorgan was played by the actor who portrayed Kane in the 1979 Buck Rogers In the 25th Century feature film.
Anyone else hear a bit of the Star Trek theme in the beginning (but with the melody line 'tweaked' a bit?)?
.. That Program was First Released May 7 1977.. Star Wars Was Released May 25th 1977'.. in Quark You Got That Darth Vader Looking Thing Working on a Robot Similar To Lost in Space'.. also Star Treklike Things included in Various Episodes'.. Though it's a Spoof'.. See The Connections
I was very surprised to find out this debuted BEFORE Star Wars came out, I always thought it was an attempt to cash in on the post-SW sci fi craze. It had its moments and some good concepts, I don't think any other shows have plant based alien species!
The title is misleading. The Quark pilot was released in 1977. This is the first regular episode, aired in 1978.
Waited 45 yrs to see. This. Again 😂😂 and
the top Gorgon guy was the head of the "Heckawie" tribe on F-troop. 😆
The top Gorgon is Henry Silva. The F Troop actor was Frank De Kova.
@@lavern007Henry Silva would go on to portray Kane in the 1979 Buck Rogers In the 25th Century feature film.
@@kevinnelson66”Duck Dogers, in the 24th and a half, CENTURYYYY!!”
"We wait for the bee!"
(or at least for the episode this classic line is said....)
This is a new one on me, I was in my 20's, I never even heard of this show
I miss this show!! Any chance for more episodes?
There were only 8 episodes ever made according to WIkipedia, and I can find 6 here on TH-cam. so we almost have the full set.
brilliant parody
Holy CRAP that was GREAT!!!!!!!
When it first started, I didn't believe it was even a real show.
Not sure if I've seen it before. Watched A LOT of television.
Kind of the opposite of "Space: 1999".
So this is where Todd McFarland got the idea for Oroville from? LOL 😂
No, he did not; _The Orville_ was based on _Star Trek: The Next Generation_ directly, but with some comedic bits.
Bucks Henry....nuff said
In 1977 when this aired, I was a dumb 13 year-old to be sure, but I can't see myself laughing at this. Now, in 2024 I'm still not laughing even though I get all the jokes...
Crazy good fun
I initially thought this was an SNL type parody.
You may look down at me for this but... for years I used to think Chevy Chase and Henry Silva was one and the same person - until Henry Silva passed away (which was only a short time ago). Like, when I saw Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold, I really thought that was Chevy Chase playing the villain when it turns out that it was actually Silva all along... Lol 😅
I thought it was Quark from Star Trek?
This aired 2 weeks before Star wars hit the theaters and they are already spoofing the force?
The title is misleading. The Quark pilot aired in 1977. This is the first regular episode, aired in 1978.
ive found it......... ive found it ................ the source of all bad sci fi, ive see meatballs, red dwarf, vex, space 1999, hitcher's guide to the gallaxy, just about every scifi ever made when my dad and brother were alive.......... this would have been one of the ones they would be laughing at................
Enjoyed the movie. Thanks.
It's one episode of eight
I reckon they thought of adapting this to film with Steve Carell
This show got canceled way too soon.
13:45 - worst wardrobe malfunction ever!?
What in particular?
Mmmm yes! 😈
I'm not surprised that they cancelled it I'm the first season
Boomer
Never saw this before maybe it was because I wasn't in America my family was stationed overseas when this came out.
Me, too.
Yongsan, Korea from 76-78. You?
@@kalmac6255 Central America
I had a buddy that was stationed in Panama during that timeframe.
Tim Thomerson F#*K yeah ! 🤘
★ It's such a shame they did not give Conrad Janis (The actor who played Palindrome) a name that actually was a palindrome, like "Radar Nolon" or "Kamak Alula". . . oh wait a minute, I just realized if they named him that, his name wouldn't be palindrome, which means the name would not mean anything... hmmm. Okay, better yet, it's a shame that the word for a palindrome isn't a palindrome itself!
According to Wikipedia, his name was Otto Bob Palindrome.
Gives me Star Wars vibes 😂😂😂😂
And came out just before starwars
This second episode aired in 1978 after "Star Wars."
What year was this on TV. I hardly remember. This. ?????
i really like this show and tuned in for every episode but it got cancelled quick
I loved this show, I think it was on Channel 5.
But after the 3rd episode ran, it was preempted by fargin BASKETBALL!
I never got to see any more shows.
So which do you like better.. Betty or Betty?
Betty & Betty of course!😂
This show even had Mork's future father-in-law, it was a simpler time then.
This is Episode 2, not Episode 1 (there were only 8 total). At least, according to the Wikipedia page. Might want to edit the video title.
Have the whole series on DVD!!….but it has the Sony Pictures Television logo instead!!
I was overseas when this series ran....thank god, what a stinker.
I was 15- a friend of mine and I loved it... I'm not saying you're wrong,, however....
Why do i not remember this show? Oh yeah,i had a job.
