I saw one episode of this show many yrs ago when I was in the Army and it had me laughing enough to remember it. I finally see a 2nd episode at age 61. I barely remembered it except for its name.
I watched this faithfully when it first came on. Is this where Tim Thomerson got his big break? He went to some really good sci movies like Trancers (1984) along side an unknown Helen Hunt. Richard Benjamin was great in everything he did.
Fun TV series from Buck Henry. Richard Benjamin was great in it. Unfortunately, NBC was a total wreck at this time, and virtually all of their new shows got canceled after a few episodes.
Who is the beauty in the thumbnail that played "Commander Black"? She isn't listed or credited anywhere. Even an internet search turns up nothing. She looks kind of familiar though.
@@stevemcnaughton-kb3jc96 actually I noticed someone further down mention in a reply, Angelique Pettyjohn and he may be right... Makes sense since she knew Buck Henry, appeared in star trek and on get smart... I should give his comment a thumbs up actually.
THis aired the year I was born, have never seen it before! While the first episode was terrible, it immediately picked up afterwards! Dumb, but in a great way, better than Spaceballs!
The sound effects were from a licensed library. Amazingly a lot of old star trek sounds were used in other shows until the 1999s. The show was definitely of it's time (late 70s, oh my!). scifi was still somewhat niche, Quark was ahead of its time in terms of parodying the genre, but didn't have enough material to really play with. Red Dwarf is the first that really gets it right.
The almost-like Star Trek theme music, ham acting from a very capable actor/director Richard Benjamin, writing from actor/scriptwriter Buck Henry and canned laughter. What could go wrong?
Who is the actress playing Commander Black (the tall blonde)? She is unlisted in the credits and I cannot for the life of me seem to find her name anywhere.
The best interstellar garbage scow you’ve ever seen. I’ve remembered this since it aired!
Ah, I remember watching this series on TV quite a few years ago, cool.
Loved watching this show, a 70s classic!
They got the Dad from Mork and Mindy on this.... thats great / thank you for posting
Loved watching the twins 😎😎

I had almost forgotten about this show. thanks much for finding it!!
Same here! How could I have forgotten Tricia Barnstable?
No clue what this is but i know one thing I NEED MORE OF IT! This is totally awesome!
Haha, I've been trying to dig up an episode about this show. Good find, I'm impressed.
It's not Red Dwarf or the Orville, but definitely a predecessor to both in tone.
I googled the word "smarmy" and got a link to this video.
Ficus was the funniest alien EVER.
I do not remember this at all. Now I'll never be able to forget it.
😭😉
It's like star trek meats Charlie's angels meats duck dodgers in the 24 1/2 century 😀
Been waiting for someone to find this! We got one season in Australia, I never forgot it! More, more!
I remembered Richard Benjamin, but I didn't recall Tim Thomerson, nor David Gerrold producing it. At seven, I loved this show.
i miss this crazy show!!!
Star Trek 1960s: Klingons called the Enterprise a garbage scow.
Quark 1970s: "Garbage scow? I smell sitcom!"
I loved this very short lived show. Luckily, many years ago they released all the episodes on DVD and I got it.
I loved this show. I just can't remember it. Go figure. Love the Betty's
Short-lived science fiction comedy series but very memorable for its brief run on NBC.
"Quark made me proud to be an earthling!" said a guy in a pre-release ad for Quark.
Never saw this! But it's like a Starwars holiday special every day of the year...
Such a fun show...
Hey, this is interesting. The forerunner of all Star Trek parodies.
After Get Smart, Buck Henry does this and Mel Brooks does Spaceballs.
THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING LOL
Richard Benjamin was excellent in this episode

Enjoyed the movie. Thanks.
Best show ever!!
I have it on DVD.
Typical 70's humour.
Still a fun watch, I always liked Ficus and the Bettys.
Never saw this. I must have been working those nights. This is terific fun.
Thanks for posting!!!
Fun TV series from Buck Henry. Richard Benjamin was great in it. Unfortunately, NBC was a total wreck at this time, and virtually all of their new shows got canceled after a few episodes.
Also, it's not a terribly great show, although it had its moments and good concepts.
Lmfao at the big head that is hilarious make up
I wonder if the "Big Head" is related to the "Big Giant Head" in "3rd Rock from the Sun".
And people wonder why we loved Star Wars so much.
the algorithim knew i was thinking about checking out this show.
@ 1:15 : WTH do they have T.A.R.D.I.S. console??? LOL!
They stole a lot of ideas.
hahaha what a show thanks
I remember wanting to like QUARK far more than I did. I don't think Richard Benjamin has ever made me laugh.
Did Twiggy grow hair.Beep beep, what's up Buck?
Twiki.
A comedy version of Star Trek/Buck Rogers can’t imagine why it failed
Mindy's Dad should have figured out Mork a solar system away....
Did the "Gorgies" have the same model ship?
Wow, a TV show with real women that we can fantasize over. Sigh !!!
Amazing what A.I can create these days! 😳
Good times

I thought maybe Grace Lee Whitney - Yeoman Rand from Star Trek, but not positive.

@@stevemcnaughton-kb3jc96I agree Grace Lee Whitney.
Where is episode one?
This show was in 8track tape surround Quad sound a spin-off from STAR WARS 1977
Cool ! Tim Thomerson
Almost the only notable survivor of this really very terrible production.
Got to give it to him. Man had some great hair
4:12 GOSH LOL LMAO THEY LOOK SO BAD LOL LMAO
Fun Fact: Richard Benjamin's character in Quark is the Grandson of his character in Westworld
Love me some Bettys.
Breaching the 4th wall at the end.
I've never heard of this show..😮
With the success of Star Wars, space shows we're the thing back then.
15:10 Biden 😂😂😂😂😂
The princess was hot.
I wonder why this was cancelled. Not a bad show. Certainly better than most of the garbage in 1978.
Most likely it was because there was an accidental death of one of the main cast members (Richard Kelton) real early on.
@@rsuriyopKelton didn't die until after the show was canceled.

More Betty's please
omg i cant watch another one, beyond bad
Gene Jean
So bad it was good :-)
lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is that a TARDIS console in the beginning???
Thanks for sharing this. I haven't seen this since it aired and well, it's a really lousy show. I liked the twins, though.
Who played the gorgeous blonde, Commander Black?
Angelique Pettyjohn?
Good eye... I think that may be the one. It fits consider her star trek and buck henry connections@@alanluber5383
Just a guess... Grace Lee Whitney???
Well, this looks pretty stupid. And I can't believe how many sound effects they stole from Star Trek!

1:17 A TARDIS console?
I never heard of this.
this is so weird, why do I remember this?
isnt that one of the guys from starsky and hutch LOL
this is so weird, it looks like something that was on the BBC and then was americanized, is that a laugh track? WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON LOL
30 seconds into the credits and I suddenly remembered why I don’t remember this program…
I don't get it.
You ain't kidding - this is the dumbest space show ever made. How did the network's executive board OK this?
A lot of Star Trek sounds and Spock stuff.
@@nickelstewever seen Get Smart?
@@davidthedeafyes and Buck Henry was one half of the creative team behind that series. Mel Brooks was the other. The better half.
It had fewer episodes than Firefly

Feels like a fever dream.
I'll do it🎉
How low a budget does it go? Even change the key of startreks theme.
I can see why Tim Thomerson changed his name. He didn't want to be associated with this show. 😅
The almost-like Star Trek theme music, ham acting from a very capable actor/director Richard Benjamin, writing from actor/scriptwriter Buck Henry and canned laughter. What could go wrong?
All the episodes are parody of Star trek episodes.
Surprisingly unfunny considering the terrific Buck Henry was involved.
I never heard of this show, and I can understand why. I'll have to pass. Buck Henry did an excellent job on Get Smart.
Oh God! the worst laugh track that underpins flat jokes.🤔😆😆😆😳
This show wasn't even humorous, much less funny.
S h oc K I n g
wow, that was pretty awful.

The big giant head, eh?
