    Please, I hope you never stop you honesty and true portrayal of what you experience on the trail. My two cents: the heat and humidity really do a job on a person and wear them down. It's another discomfort factor for hikers. Anyway, your video portrayed the area I have hiked in the most, aside from the southern Catskills: Harriman and Bear Mountain parks. Certainly can be very damp/wet and buggy, because the underlying geology stops the water from getting down into the ground to far, so you get a lot of damp ground areas. I still love it - the whole area has a fascinating history and even archaeological remains.

    So happy to see all the shenanigans you and your tramily get into.... It is a stark contrast to the past year or so of your solo travels and hikes you have done while living in your van. You did very well as a solo traveler, and im sure it taught you many things about yourself... but having a great group of friends to share all the experences with has got to be such a blast and a nice change for you.... now you just need to convince at least one of them to do van life with you when its time to leave the trail... would help cut down on post trail blues.... or like you said in one video... get a few to do another long hike, like the PCT with you... or just do another beer across America tour together...lol Another great video Maddie

    Oof! That rocky section... now I understand the title for this video! Fun on a day hike, perhaps, but really tough with an overnight pack. The trail is definitely looking tougher than further south.
    I feel your pain when it comes to being hot and sweaty while being pestered by hungry mosquitoes... it definitely takes a little of the shine off the experience. As you're showing, you just have to grit your teeth and get on with it though a little meltdown every now and then can be cathartic!

    another thru hiker told someone this advice, "don't quit, cry it out and keep going" After watching so many of you on your journey's this year I thought that was really good advice to give. I say crying is an "emotional douche" it cleans everything up snd lets your mind and emotions start on a better more clear path.

    At 9:54 is the Palisades Interstate Parkway which I noticed you doing some night hiking to cross. When I thru hiked in 1990, you had to literally cross this freeway. I honestly believe that was one of the real dangers I faced on the AT. Had to stand there for quite a while waiting for a gap in the traffic then had to run across the road. Running with your pack on because you have to is no fun. Hang in there, Ranger!

  • @dawnsteisslinger353

    I know for a fact that would be me down in the water getting soaked while everyone went the drier way as well. I also seem to slip on wet rocks. Definitely don’t care for stream crossings. A few years ago I was fine now I don’t think I can reach.
    Sorry you missed the zoo. Sad to see some of the damage the flooding has done around the area you are hiking.
    Safe travels for you and your tramily!!❤

    This isn't the first video in which you were worried about friends and section hikers passing you. But after watching you cross the stream knee-deep while others forded using the rocks, and after watching you - a couple week earlier - picking your way gingerly through Rocksylvania, it's obvious why hikers are passing you: you're more careful. That's not a defect; that's a style.
    Thanks for letting me join you on this hike, as I sit here crunching numbers, looking longingly out my window. I'm now only three weeks behind you, catching up, but don't worry; I can't pass you!

    Thanks for sharing this part of your adventure. I appreciated the photo of the frog sitting in leaves near the beginning. It was so well camouflaged. Yes, it looked like some challenging climbing.
    Would you be willing to share some logistical facts? For example, was does two white marks mean? How many miles is the trail? What is a reasonable budget? How does a hiker get money to make purchases along the way? How do you know where you are and what is up ahead? This will be interesting and informative for me and perhaps some other viewers.

    • @bearclaw5115
      @bearclaw5115 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Let me fill you in with what I've learned. I haven't hiked the trail myself but have read a lot about it. The two white marks may indicate a direction change or junction you can google this. The trail is 2,200 miles and is the longest footpath in the world but not the longest trail overall. I've heard a reasonable budget to do the trail is about $10,000. But this depends on how fast you hike, the trail can take 40 days or 200 days with most people at the longer end. It also depends on whether or not you want to stay off trail part of the time. Most people do, it's nice to get a shower and a bed. Many hikers send themselves packages in advance to post offices near the trail. GPS or phone for nav, very few relying on maps these days.
      3,000,000 people a year hike part of the trail. 3,000 officially try to hike the whole thing in one season with 750 making it on average.
      The trail is very hard but the most difficult part is finding the time to do it. It's usually people in their 20''s or retirees giving it a shot. The rest of us are too busy with family or careers.
      You can read a very entertaining book about this trail called 'A walk in the Woods' by Bill Bryson. Peace.
