- South Korea's Unification Church is no stranger to controversy. But it is now facing its biggest challenge yet as it prepares for a future without its founder, Moon Sun-myung, better known as Reverend Moon.
Reverend Moon built a church, a multi-billion dollar business and a massive cult of personality, and now he is fighting to ensure a lasting legacy.
The founder of the controversial religious sect is in his 90s. He knows that time is running out and has handed control of operations to his sons.
The church's business arm, the Tongil Foundation, will be run by Moon's fourth son, Kook-jin, while his youngest son, Hyung-jin, will oversee the running of the church.
There is, however, talk of sibling rivalry among Moon's heirs. The oldest living son, Hyun-jin, has been left out in the cold - a move that appears to have caused a deep rift within the church.
So, will the Unification Church survive without its founder? And just how influential are the Moons?

I've encountered this last 2013 in Tanay, Rizal (Philippines) where they have a college that teaches about this. I've witnessed everything about their traditions (bowing down in their image, reading until you memorize their book, fundraising, arrange marriage..) We are not a business dedicated to the worship of Rev.moon. We believe he is the second advent, but there is more too it than just that. We have many business organisations, but they are dedicated to help our church financially and with media relations, and other things.

They do not live in absolute luxury as billionaires, they have gained a large sum of money from their businesses, but they mainly use it on different investments for our church. For example, our church has invested in many projects and organizations which are meant for members to benefit from. Many of our members who aren't living well are in japan, there the government does not acknowledged us and they can't get jobs, though that's the case for other countries as well.
Ancestor Liberation and Blessing is absolutely true. I lived and have been going to the Training Center in Cheongpyeong to participate in the chanyang session and workshops. All I could say is it saved my life, many people's lives. I believe that we cannot judge the book by its cover. Read it first several times before making the conclusion.
I am a church member and I would like to address this video very clearly and openly for any and all to consider: Everything you say is {for the most part} true.
However, you missed a couple points:
A. No church ever was, is, or will be perfect. The very premise of a church is to help and save imperfect people, and it is imperfect people who must carry this out inevitably because, well, who is perfect?? This does not condone illicit actions committed by relevant parties, it simply is a reminder that to expect perfection from any church is unrealistic.
B. Sun Myung Moon's family is also certainly not perfect, just like every other family on planet earth, and I remind all that no claim was ever made that the family is perfect, at least not by the family itself.
C. A lot has transpired concerning the internal politics since the posting of this video, which was in fact posted a very long time ago, between Hyun Jin and his younger brother Hyung Jin {the names are very similar and only differentiated by the letter g in the younger}. It is easy to demonize Hyun Jin, the older brother, just based on the limited clips shown, and without knowing the real background. The reality is far more complex, and although many would call out physical violence, to be honest when Hyun Jin kicked that church leader, he was kicking a corrupt, thieving piece of s*** who had no business being a leader. There are always corrupt opportunists who try to steal from churches and religions, look at Catholic Church priests or Protestant megachurch pastors, to make a limited example among many others. That kicked church leader was compromising hard earned blood sweat and tears, and absolute heartfelt donations of the greater church community and frankly deserved more than a kick in my opinion. Let me keep it real. That is but a tiny angle from which to reconsider the facts in the context of what this video focused on.
D. I find it interesting that this video chooses to focus exclusively on the internal politics, there are actually so many more problems in the church to expose and talk about, if you wish. I personally know it is pointless to hide truth, and vouch for transparency to all :)
Yet why do I, after what I acknowledged above, still choose to believe in Sun Myung Moon and the UC? Because I want to go where love and happiness are. And they are most definitely in the Unification Church. The purpose of life is to be happy, and I'm happy here. At first glance people might deride this as foolishness, idiocy, and as having an easily manipulated mind. That's easy for an outsider to say, based on the limited views generated by what one typically hears and sees at the surface. Yet, people have no clue how powerful the joy and happiness we share here in the church. The love we share. The spiritual energy we HAVE. Call it whatever you want, I wouldn't give 2 f*#@s about the opinion of anyone who has never at least visited the church themselves, or at least given a proper read of our theology; and even then there are some ex church members who had a rough experience, my heart goes out to them, but the negative experience is NOT the experience of the vast majority of church members. It's so sad that the world predominantly focuses on the negative aspects while not being able to see the spiritual side. The problem is that everyone's spiritual antenna is busted, and so all you see is what you can see in front of you, and what the media, including this biased video, tell you. There are tens of thousands of testimonies that can confirm it. That's right in front of you. Why not shed a little light on that? No? Don't want to? Want to pretend they don't exist? Go ahead, biased geniuses who do so. What of the Christian clergy of various denominations who were revitalized through our church, and can testify aggressively and passionately for it? What of saving former hippies and homeless people throughout the decades and giving them meaning to their lives, saving them from drugs, alcohol, and the damages of a promiscuous life? There are many cases. What of the thousands {not hundreds, we're talking thousands} of people who were cured of real, actual diseases through CheongPyeong works in Korea, the spiritual training center? These healings are actually medically and officially DOCUMENTED, for those who would ask for more physical and substantial points from me {and understandably so, as some of the other things I listed are pretty subjective I admit}. Firstly, you would think that it would be a major priority to teach every kid to speak & write Korean. It baffles me that the 1st Generation have not learned Korean! How do they actually know what is said & what they believe. It’s insane that they would devote their entire lives to something that they can’t even understand! Secondly, when the first generation began having children, the children should have been/be enrolled into some kind of Korean Immersion school, just like hundreds of thousand children are placed in
French-Immersion schools, etc, in order to become bi/trilingual.
** In An Aside From This “Moonies” Topic, I find it so amazing that European Children grow up learning many languages. Every European I have ever met, is fluent in 3 -> 6 other languages, while many Americans only speak & write only 1 language! In addition, they seem to expect others in various other countries, to speak English. My second observation about Americans who travel to other countries seem to think that their ‘American Rules/Laws’ allow them the same rights, rules, & laws as they get in America. Well, we'er selling military weapons so we can make money. We need money to support ourselves as well as others in need.(for example we donated a Million or more dollars to Japan after the tsunami. One of the reasons we manufacture weapons is for defensive purposes. Go back to the story of cain and abel. If abel had been able to defend himself he wouldn't have died right. He could have stopped cain, calmed him down and worked things out. If you believe in peace you have to be able to protect it.
