Shoooot, I’m busting my maintenance job 100-120hr to just fall short of 3500 gross biweekly! Went to my local and signed up so hopefully my class gets filled soon
Hey man great channel had a question! I’m trying to get into the local 9 plumber union in NJ and they only accept 200 applications and only around 50 people get in! My question is how hard was the test for getting into the union?
@@Lyxr1st appreciate the love I think and hope I'm sharing valuable insight to this career and industry. How hard was the test? You know I'd have to say because I did prepare and I did get as much information. There are two separate tests that I was required to take. One was through the union which I would say was more high School information. And the aptitude test was probably harder because it went across maps and math and grammar and the ability to comprehend information. So it was more large scope versus the union being specific. So I don't think the one I took for the Union is the same for all unions. So I did mention a few books that I did purchase in prepping for your interview on the union. I would check out those videos. I missed the question and best of luck. I love that it's so competitive out there. But it's a great career and if you're on the East Coast, you'll be a very strong union. Tough Winters though
Hey Joon, can I pick your brain a bit? What daily habits do you integrate into your life to bring you success at work? For example: preparing the night before by writing down all the things you need for tomorrow, or journaling things you don't want to forget, or writing down things you did wrong and how to do them better. Thanks.
I have another question as well I haven't seen it answer anywhere. lets say I went to trade school for plumbing if I get hired by a union since I have my schooling completed would i still be consider and apprentice or would I start with a higher title?
@@argenis911 That's a good question. I've had a few people ask that one but I've never directly answered that. Even if you were to have schooling it might get you a bump on the scale but you would need to start your apprenticeship as a first-year apprentice. All Union apprenticeships for plumbing are 5 years and there is no way to test out of a grade. You would have to negotiate with your contractor a higher wage due to your knowledge base. But no you would start from ground zero as an apprentice.
You can always call the hall back and see where they placed you on the list. Sometimes to get higher on their you'll need to re take some tests or get experience. Tough to be there. Sorry you've been in the dark
@@JoonRhee called last Tuesday and left a voicemail. Haven’t heard anything since. What test? And the experience I’ve been working for a non-union company for the past 2 years
Hey man, for me I had to pass an "entrance exam" which was at the same time as the interview. It was a basic construction math test that took 2 hours. As far as waiting, I would look up the signatory contractors in your area so you can understand why the wait is taking so long (maybe there's only one contractor). To get in, you need your local contractors to send a request for manpower to the union, who will then contact you.
@@johnosborne951 congrats!!! First step to success check! Now you have a path to pursue and stay with it! Well worth it! Keep me posted and thanks for the line!
@@chrisvargas1262 hey thanks for the question! Been asked that but I'm gonna keep that under wraps:) but I am in the union I promise. It was one of the earlier ones I can tell you that;)
Depends what your local scale starts at. Not the same for everyone. But it ranges from 18-24$ is my assumption base on what I hear from other unions I've spoken too
i want ask this how hard is it to become a plumber on the body wise are you in pain or do you feel healthy im 30 years old in great shape but i feel like im old for this trade at the same time i need a change in my life tired working job that pay minimum wage.
@@argenis911 you know that's actually a very common question and I definitely hit on that on a few different videos but I didn't start until I was 31. I would say I was in great shape as well. You still have to maintain that lifestyle because it is stressful and it is not easy to show up to class 2 days a week for 5 years to even try and become a plumber. So the steps in the process that I've shared throughout my channel hopefully give you a little bit more insight to what that looks like long-term. So is it going to be hard on your body for 5 to 8 years? Yeah it will. But if you're smart and if you actually apply yourself and you're actually a good plumber, you'll work your way into a management position which lessons the body use hand over fist. So I wouldn't focus too much on the body aspect as much as you need to apply your mind and actually become someone of Worth in the trade. But overall it is hard and I maintained a healthy lifestyle with a few moments of heavier drinking than normal. Not going to the gym as often, but I still maintained and tried to maintain a healthy balance
I have now arrived in Canada and I will take English lessons to improve my language and then I will try to join the union and when I succeed I will tell you.😊

@@lascellesstoddart3907 thanks partner! I've been investing in a Roth for a little over a decade now. So now I get pretty close to maxing that out for me and my wife who's a registered nurse.
