There's subtle hints about some characters liking Aether whether playonically or romantically, there's still hints both from the guys and the girls. As for Aether himself, he dosen't show much interest in any in a particular way. If I'm correct he only showed interest towards Xiao.

But what is obvious is that the traveler is friends with many of the male and female playable characters. Whether you play Aether or Lumine there are story situations, voice lines and quest dialogue + dialogue options that they both have that clearly show their affection and like for some of the female AND male playable characters, even some npc's. Meaning that Aether does indeed like and have close friendships with many of the male characters. That IS canon and confirmed.. How can he be a true aether main when he doesn't even understand aether's personality

Firstly, who exactly do you know hates straight ships? I know people who hate others that force straight ships (as well as any other ship because people are multifaceted), and I know creepy people that only ship gay stuff because "it's rebellious". Aka, fetishizers. But nobody queer in real life or just a fan of non-het ships actively hates on straight ships, most of them are too busy gushing about their favorite duo.
And either way, hating gay ships is homophobic. If your problem with the relationship between two characters, even people, is the fact they share a gender or their relationship isn't the "norm", then that is at the very least a very confused person. Nobody said anything about having to like every gay ship there is, but hating/disliking them all is definitely an indication of bigotry. For example, I'm not a fan of gorou and itto or zhongli and Childe, but I don't hate them for just being gay. It's purely based on my unique perception of characters, as I'm the type to try and stay as close as possible to canon...most of the time lol
