The Young Professional's Guide to the Galaxy - Mariam Naseem

This session will cover tips and resources for current and aspiring young professionals seeking to chart their own unique paths in the aerospace sector. It will draw on Mariam's lessons and experiences from her own non-traditional background as a minority and immigrant from Pakistan, who has worked on oil rigs in Russia, conducted research in the Arctic, and other adventures which ultimately led her to finding her place in aerospace. Now, she conducts astrobiology research with NASA to aid the search for life on icy ocean worlds in our outer solar system. Ultimately, the key for searching beyond, lies within!
Mariam Naseem is a Polar & Planetary Science Researcher and Ph.D. student at the University of Maryland, College Park where she investigates geological processes on icy ocean worlds like Europa and Enceladus through terrestrial analogs in polar environments on Earth. Prior to commencing her Ph.D., Mariam worked with the Industry Relations team at the Canadian Space Agency to support Canadian space companies with business development engagements. Mariam has also served as a Research Fellow at the Open Lunar Foundation contributing to an open communication architecture for the Moon, and as a policy researcher at Arizona State University’s Space Governance Lab, analyzing technologies and policies with a focus on emerging space nations.
