      Catnip has been used by some people for migraine and other ailments. People overlook herbal medicine. It doesn't work on everyone though, like a lot of "prescription" medications don't. e.g. Vicodin does not work on me (other than giving me bad hallucinations).

    I still don't understand why animal specialists have some kind of vendetta against the buttons.
    They won't even acknowledge the possibility of animals being able to develop human language systems.
    They all seem to immediately get angry when you press them on the issue.

    • @missflowerpower8724
      @missflowerpower8724 หลายเดือนก่อน +133

      If a gorilla can learn sign language… why can’t a cat or dog learn button language? Talking birds often put their word knowledge to correct use in stressful situations. “Scientists”!! SMH

    • @shoopp7916
      @shoopp7916 หลายเดือนก่อน +88

      More accurately, it’s that scientists have been trying for decades to facilitate human language communication with animals; for some, like John C. Lilly, it was their greatest dream and passion.
      But after testing and research both methodical and objective, it’s unlikely that this is possible.
      Is the animal really “talking” with buttons on the floor when it’s relying so heavily on the subjective opinions of the human observer, as well as their feedback?
      Of course the animal is going to hit a relevant button when every single button available is relevant to the owner: food, outside, hungry etc.
      Not one can be pressed without response from the owner.
      So, inevitably, you get coincidentally strung together adequate “sentences” which the owner can fill in with what they suspect is the animal’s intent. And the dog/cat gets attention, treats, pets. Do they know why? They don’t have to, they get the good stuff eventually if they just keep pressing.
      What needs to be done is to add “nonsense buttons”, ones that have irrelevant words “spaceship”, “banana” etc. and see if the animal can form ideas separate from human affirmations.
      If you watch old footage of Francine Patterson working with Koko the gorilla you can see how Koko’s extensive “vocabulary” of sign language shows what happens when “nonsense words” are added. Paradoxically laying bare how she cannot actually communicate.
      Patterson needed to continually correct and guide Koko repeating herself again, and again just to get an adequate (even if ungrammatical, or a complete non-sequitur from whats being asked) sequence of signs that is accepted as “communication”.
      But in the end she was just talking to herself.

      Specialists don’t know everything that’s why we have to be wise with what advice we take from them.

    • @setulf09
      @setulf09 หลายเดือนก่อน +32

      I think part of the deal is that to truly be effective the owner needs to actually train the cat to understand the purpose of each button. Like separately and eventually together. Not everyone who buys these do that. Some just throw a bunch of word buttons at the cat and read too much into which buttons they push immediately. Pushing almost any button causes the owner to react which is way more fun for the cat than not pushing the button. 🤷‍♂️ Cats are super clever and I'm sure some could understand but they don't just pick it up language like people do. I think training is needed.

    • @cherieodell9048
      @cherieodell9048 หลายเดือนก่อน +47

      I think it's ridiculous to assume that animals cannot communicate. It's also not realistic to believe that they absolutely cannot understand anything that is spoken in a human language. Most animals have adaptations that make them extremely adept at certain skills and it's possible that just like their bodies, diets, lifespans, and overall development are very different from a human's in many ways, their means of communication and capacity to do that are also different but that doesn't mean they are incapable of communication or communication with humans. Most of them are capable of physical feats that someone would feel like would make someone a superhuman if they were able to do that. Some animals, and probably a huge number of animals are extremely intelligent at least in certain ways and it wouldn't surprise me if some of them were much more intelligent than humans in just about every way. I think that any experimentation with communication with animals that has occurred is extremely rudimentary and that it really doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of what many animals are capable of communicating, learning, and realizing.

    When my previous cat of 14 years died of cancer, I could not stop crying. My husband (not a cat lover) went to a shelter and got this tiny kitten. He is a menace! At 8 months was already 13 lbs with endless energy. I had quite an anxiety already and he seemed to have been adding more, as he could not NOT get into something for 2 minutes straight. Jumping into our plates during dinner was a normal thing for him. Carrying things around the house in his mouth and leaving them in random places (my shoes in our kids room, bathroom drain plug on top of the wardrobe, wallet under the couch). I thought I was going to lose my mind with him. At the same time he was very affectionate, kept sleeping in my left armpit, if I got out of bed after midnight, he would follow me, yelling ma-ma-ma. While in the morning, when my alarm would go off and I start getting up, he would jump onto my laps asking to be petted. I started getting to work late every day, as I was spending a lot of time with him. But I stopped caring (I was not getting in trouble, never too late and I'm salary. a few times I even texted my boss a picture of him laying on my chest, saying I can't come on time lol). It's like he was taking my worries away, like the time would stop when he turns his belly up. He is still a menace, still sleeps in my left armpit at night, though he is huge now. He is so funny, dragging things in his mouth around the house.

    So the cats instinct is to act as if whatever is going on with them, they'll just pretend it's normal because it was something that helped in their survival, but then I learned that once the cat has access to buttons that can be used for communication, they will tell you what's wrong with them...
    I always thought cats were only just highly observant creatures that don't really possess much after-thought and often failing to recognise the concept of ones possessions they own, and I'm aware every cat is differen't, but a cats level of conciousness is much greater than I initally thought.

      Also their experiences shape them in how they behave. I never noticed how transactional they are - that's my hubby's word for it. They recognize that we give them shelter and food and they give us "gifts" like a mouse or lizard (mine does anyway!). I saw with a feral cat we just took in it was especially important to her for us to understand because she'd lived alone without food or shelter for months.

      maybe failing to recoginise possesion is the right perspective, beause from a cats perspective anything they want can be their possesion? i mean they mark territories, they dont neccesrily need to hord things the way humans do, hording is an instict that not all animals have due to them not needing to or it not serving them to hord things. humans are litterally obssessed with possessing/owning things (this possesivness can even be placeed on living things and even other humans (objectification). for an animal like a cat its a bit of a useless instict or drive to have, if they are hungry they just hunt or in the case of house cats have resources provided for them they dont need to be possesive or possess things and there for dont need to recognize them and eve if they do they aree not so obssessive over it like humans are.

  • @sdmsdm7926
    @sdmsdm7926 หลายเดือนก่อน +43

    Yes, cats grieve, all creatures that bond with another will grieve...it's not just for humans you know. Another way you can tell if a cat is not well will be their eyes, usually is a cat is doing fine, I find the shape of their eyes are nice and round and they have bright eyes...when their eyes are almond shaped more often than not there's something wrong. It could be something simple like constipation from way too much dry food or something more serious which needs attention from the Vet and usually blood tests to determine what is going on with kitty. That is one smart beautiful cat with the most amazing voice!

One , morning as I was trying to wake up and my bedroom was close enough to the kitchen door, the Siamese mix clearly stated, "I wanna go out.". In her Siamese voice, not a human voice. It was as clear as a bell though. I treat all of my cats as they are human and they were incredibly smart. The joys of my life. Cats and one incredibly smart mixed breed dog, were true and pure joy !!!!

I mean, there's like a video I saw that this cat pressed around 20 Buttons, like seriously they remember which one is which . Their little brain really is intelligent and somehow through this, I believe we humans should make more effort In communicating with them cats. It's amazing what this thing can do.

    I wonder if the correct diet to reverse IBS in cats is raw wet food/meat (properly balanced of course). In the wild, they'd eat other animals they catch, not dried grains and plants. Carnivore (animal foods, very little or no plants) seems to be doing the same for humans with IBS....they heal.

      You can teach cats the word ouch (watch billie speaks for demonstrations, the videos from before she was really sick show how the training works and doesn't edit out any video, just speeds up).
      As cats get used to the buttons they get better and better at putting words to things, and do it faster and faster.
      Also, cats have to have the motivation to do it. Most cats that use buttons are very demanding and vocal before getting buttons, which is why the owners decided to try it.
      Many other cats show no interest.

    I've had many cats in my life. Two of them, Earl and Simon, were gay and absolutely adored eachother. This was a confirmed fact because I often caught them having sex with eachother and they never showed any interest in the female cats when they would be in heat, unlike all the other male cats. Earl and Simon would never leave eachothers side, always napping together and sharing their sleeping spots and even sharing food with eachother and playfighting even though they were several years old, like they were still kittens.
    One day Simon got very sick and I had no choice but to put him down. Earl was never the same again. He never played again, he never meowed and he always kept to himself rather than engage any of the other cats in anything. He only ate the same tuna that was Simons favourite and nothing else.
    He was like this for years after Simons death until he got cancer at 14 years of age and died.
    I still tear up thinking about that.

    I love this video, but for God’s sake, what the heck are we feeding our cats that they all end up with diseases we get? Cats are obligate carnivores and should not have half the crap (carbs, additives, seed oils) that are in regular cat food. Our fur babies are following in our footsteps of eating all sorts of junk we shouldn’t eat either. Most, if not, all chronic disease, including IBD, cancer, type 2, obesity, etc., are often reversed (at a minimum, made, better) when we stop eating processed food, sugar, grains, seed oils, and so many carbs.

We never see them give a false positive response. The IBS can be seen in the stool. If you study semantics The Conceptual understanding is beyond cat's intelligence because of their singular focus.
