      It looks so much like southern Arizona. I hope it isn't-- I thought we had top-notch desert rescues, and I kinda took pride in it.
      I saw a stretcher hang on a long line from a chopper once here, but it was for a tricky corpse retrieval by a high cliff. It did not seem ok for non-adrenaline people. Ironically, the guy in the bag would have loved the ride, but he booked his last flight off the Flatiron.

      It was BAD. The blood rushing her head and feet broke the capillaries in her face, eyes, and feet. They were blackened when she got to the hospital. She said she thought she was going to die. She was dizzy and disoriented for days. She sued and got a settlement for it. Well-deserved. The only thing I can think of for that first clip is that the helicopter's blades were spinning at a perfect multiple of the number of frames the camera was filming at, so they were always in the exact same place each and every frame. Cameras do weird things when you get frequencies involved.

      The crashing toy heli blades also seems on camera to be bended like a boomerang also same issue

    • @Greboth
      @Greboth 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The still blades and blade “bending” on the model are both related to shutter speed but for different reasons. The blades not moving is due to global shutter, where a camera processes all the light information at the same time. When the shutter speed interval aligns with the rotor speed a blade is in the same place each frame so appears not to move. The rotor speed is going to be higher than the shutter speed but, given there’s 5 blades, the rotor must move 1/5th of a rotation (or a multiple of) between each frame.
      The curved blades however are because of rolling shutter - where a camera process the top line of pixels first and works down the image one line at a time. For most things this isn’t an issue as they don’t move much (if at all) between each line of pixels being read. However something moving fast like rotor blades or a propeller, they move far enough between each line that they become curved or other weird shapes.

    The hook man has to ground the wire (to keep from getting electrocuted by static electricity generated by the helo's rotor blades). Then he hooks the wire to the sling load. The yellowshirt LSE (Landing Signalman Enlisted) is directing the pilot with hand signals since the pilot can't see what is going on under the helo. The US Navy calls it VERTREP (vertical replenishment) and it is both fast and sometimes very dangerous.

    Rewatch the homemade chopper. The front wheel is still tied to a stake in the ground. That’s part of the reason it tipped over on its right hand side. You see the front wheel being held by the rope tied to a stake, when he tries to go up, it yanks on the front and the back right touches down first and then the laws of physics and gravity take over. Had he achieved lift and attitude, he would have died in a pretty short fall back to earth because that thing had no right to be in the air.
