"90s Cybercore PS1 mix" is my long-planned project, where the emphasis is on audio-visual design,
which was created before the arrival of the Y2K aesthetic.
"90s Cybercore" is a label in which I include sub-styles such as:
-"Corporate Gen-x Cyber"
-"Cyberdelic"
-"Gen X Soft club"
-"Silicon Dreams"
-"Superflat Pop" (90s era)
I personally use "90s Cybercore" to be able to define the design in the period (1995 -1998), through the above-mentioned sub-styles.
_________________________________
About Visual:
PS1 has many titles, but also Demo Discs, which contain the aforementioned design,
which I absolutely love.
I tried to choose various clips from games/demos that are purely 90s and contain this aesthetic.
There are also clips that do not have this aesthetic, but help to get the vibe in a certain part of the mix.
I also used some clips from PS1 promo/TV commercial videos that
also contain this design or were useful for this video.
_________________________________
About Mix:
The mix therefore contains familiar tracks that we know well from playing demos, watching trailer videos and playing CDs.
There are some exceptions here that only enhance the overall experience, so don't take me literally.
But the mix is unique in that I edited each individual track, completely changing the tempo (or genre). It's not so much about remixes, but about reviving these well-known tracks and making the listener experience the feeling when they heard it for the first time.
Furthermore, I tried to create an absolute harmony mix, so that you can enjoy the mixing of individual tracks as much as possible.
_________________________________
About thumbnail art:
Randomly chosen characters from various PS1 games to make the thumbnail look nice...nothing more, nothing less.
_________________________________
Note:
Many gameplay clips come from various TH-cam channels, the most I used was from @ZedraPsyborg, for which I am extremely grateful.
I ripped the FMV clips in this video thanks to jPSXdec.
Sometimes I put selected clips from a specific game to the track that belongs to it and sometimes I just mix it up. I put the clips randomly, according to some personal feeling, so please don't write that this game doesn't match the track or something like that. It's just for fun.
The most advanced visual part is the first 40 minutes, then I chose a slightly simpler edit, because I wouldn't have time for it anymore.
Personally, I don't do much with 3D, but here I used some PS1 3D models (from "The Models Resource" website) in their original "T" position.
--
Please, this is just a fun project, not a design history analysis. With this mix I will reveal how I perceived the PS1 as a kid. Of course, there is not everything I wanted to show, but the essentials are there.
Enjoy the mix😊✨
I wish I could have experienced more of this sort of online/gaming culture. I was born in 00 and so I grew up right on the very tail end of the 00s/10s Internet/arcade/gaming culture. Technically after this videos 'era' but I think they're closely related still. I just love it so much.
This is the feeling of being transported to 2029 via a PS1 from 1999! I love how the visuals just stay fresh throughout!
Bro you’re so right! Stop reading my mind.
Just wanted to write the same comment.
Eres del futuro del 2029 y en este paso tiempo estoy en el 2024
Just with smartphones this time…
My Digi-Dex 🤳
I need to inject this into my veins
me too 💉💉
Me too as well 💉💉
Vibrations.
Fact that may or may not be fun: the female character on the thumbnail is named Mia from the game Vs. A reskin of the japanese game Fighters Impact, Mia was redesigned based on a THQ executive's daughter.
Real interesting
She's also in Polygon Magic's next fighting game, Slap Happy Rhythm Busters. Along with Oleg - the only Vs characters they liked enough to bring back
Audio from the past making me feel like I missed out on the future.
you're so real for this .
This reminds me of being in the arcades back in the early 2000’s, and it’s beautiful.
We NEED more jungle and other ravey music to come back to gaming its been too long
Games need Jungle, I'm afraid.
At last, jungle music has come back around 🥰
Og ps1 and ps2 music is still unmatched!
7:40 HOLY SHIT FUTURE GPX CYBER FORMULA MENTIONED LET'S GOOOOIOOOOOOOOOO!!
love the old beatmania background animations
The 90s has the best retro futurism out there. Way better than our current futurism.
Futurism ended when 9/11 and neoconservative resource wars shifted our culture of optimism, openness and innovation- to one of cynicism, paranoia and fear.
@@BenjaminHartleyReturnsdamn it’s like you took the feelings and thoughts outta my head and put them in word form g
@BenjaminHartleyReturns people keep saying this Vibe ended at 9/11. But as someone who is 31 and grew up in the 2000s(from 7 to 17), I would argue this entire decade had this Vibe as well. More than anything, and definitely more than 9/11 social media is what killed futurism and retro futurism.
@@JesusChrist2000BC also the recession, and minimalist "clean" cultue
@@JesusChrist2000BC Certainly- social media and normalized adhd culture as the baseline human response to everything with everyone under 40 has cheapened our valuation of any particular concept or *thing*, which is just sad more than anything. Most who I talk to now can barely hold a conversation beyond a paragraph of detail.
This mix is the sound of my inner 12-year-old opening his 3rd eye for the first time
It's like being 14 watching Toonami bumpers again. What a vibe.
16:15 I love it! This genre of music should definitely make a comeback in the 2030's
I live for the PS1 demo disk vibes, really captures the cyber Y2K aesthetic of the 90s
YES. Time for a vibe.
Gives vibs from the 90s & the early 2000s, I LOVE IT
Man, defining it specifically as that 90s aesthetic is so well explained! This was right at a time where I discovered this, but no one in my community had any clue what this type of music was, but I was blown away by how awesome it sounded.
@@ViRiXDreamcore I'm very glad you feel the same way.👍
I used to call it "Toonami drums" and people usually knew what I meant 😅
This reminds me of playing Wipeout Fusion as a kid. It's a racing game with a futuristic setting and UK dnb soundtrack
breakcore
This music lets me daydream about abstract cool 90s vibes fantasy games that don't even exist. Love it!
This is clearly a certified banger you made here. Being also one of those kids who grew up with the PlayStation, and also being one of the few who got to own and play Klonoa during my childhood at the time of my early days of PS1 ownership in 1998, I'm very impressed about it. Even for someone who grew up playing the demo of and knowing Ghost in the Shell early in life, I'm even more impressed than ever.
BTW, the track that you don't know the name of at 1:01:06, it's actually called Fashion, produced by David Newman aka. Rhino / PhaseD. A friend of mine told me about the original modules of the music featured on those Station demo discs. You can listen to some of them on my channel.
Thanks for the cool valuable info. I just added this track because I first heard it on TH-cam around 2010 or 2011, so it's not that part of my childhood experience with PS1 music. I have more experience with Jason Page's music.
But I have this track associated with the period 2010/2011, when I was looking for some interesting VGM.
And that friend was me! I will never forget how excited you were about the find. :D I was about to recommend that mix, but now I don't need to, for I am a big fan of ST91's music. :P
Was reading comments and decided to fast scroll up towards the video just in time for 1:51 and I tripped out lol
This mix brings me so much joy, nostalgia, and heals my inner child. I'll never stop looking for the future that the 2000's hoped for
Cringe
The early Toonami vibes are strong in this. You outdid yourself with this one.
I'm finally back home...
that last tune was radical
This really does encapsulate the vibes of the PS1 era! You did an amazing job!
Yoooo, not the Community Pom intro!! That was literally my number one on my TH-cam recap for 2024 😭 This playlist out here cooking!!
I got no words for this besides "Insane". I wish modern game consoles felt like this!
Y2K aesthetic was the best thing humanity ever created!
Also, can you list some games that have this EXACT aesthetic?
Music choice is spot-on and that PS1 aesthetic was captured perfectly. Another fine addition to my collection 💿🤏
Finally seeing Bomberman World, Fluid, and even Mr. Domino being represented! Too bad nothing from Kaze No Notam.
ngl, Bomberman World was a shit game compared to its N64 counterparts
@@CrizzyEyesMusic was banger though. Bomberman 64 1&2 + Bomberman Hero are my fav Bolberman games.
@@jomon324 quite possibly, I'll admit I didn't get very far because the weird skewed perspective and the fact that it seemed like a worse version of the Super Bomberman games turned me off immediately. Jun Chikuma is a legendary composer.
also Bomberman 64's sequel is a hilariously rare game, I remember renting it when I was a kid and virtually nobody even knows it exists now. it even had a big feature in the Nintendo Power magazine. wish we got more Bomberman games like that which turned it into an action puzzler with big stages
Kaze no Notam is one of the biggest underrated bangers out there. Both the game and the music
37:11 I had forgotten there was a bomberman racing game...
Wow!!, I'm speechless...I think you’re one of the best channels on TH-cam when it comes to musical and visual content. I see a lot of passion and dedication in your videos and, above all, great human creative power! I’ve seen many channels that use AI to try to do what you do… and honestly, what you create is by far the best and most valuable! Keep going!!! ✨🎶🤟🎶✨
Aww... Thank you for your lovely comment. I really appreciate it.😊
one of the best mixes that I've ever heard
I love this so much. This is your Magnum Opus in terms of compilation and video editing, simply perfect. Do you have a list of games from this era that you recommend? I saw some mech games in this video that I'd love to play, especially.
Honestly, I chose some clips from various PS1 games that would fit the theme. Some titles I know very well and have played, and some I only know from afar or have only played once.
Mostly games with mecha bots clips I found thanks to the complete list of PS1 games on the VGL channel. (I wrote a long list in notepad)
I also have a relatively unconventional taste in recommending PS1 games.
There aren't many games with mecha bots among them, but they still relate to the sci-fi theme. Sometimes I also enjoy mediocre games, just for interesting design/music.
Personally, I recommend:
- Many titles from Psygnosis (Retro Force, Rollcage, Wipeout, G-police...)
- Fluid/Depth
- Beat Planet Music (from the creators of Fluid/Depth)
- iS: Internal Setion
- Rage Racer (and other Ridge Racer games)
- Kula World/RollAway
- No One Can Stop Mr. Domino
- VS. (Versus) (or the Japanese variant Fighters' Impact)
- Slap Happy Rhythm Busters (indirect sequel to VS.)
- Trick'N Snowboarder/Tricky Sliders
- Wrecking Crew: Drive Dangerously
- Bloodlines/Tribal
- Milenium Solider - Expendable
- Mr Driller
- Ray Tracers
- RayCrisis
- RayStorm
- Almost all 3D fighting games...(Tekken1,2,3, Rival Schools, Soul Blade, DOA, Toshinden 1,2,3....)
The list could go on and on...
I mostly like 3D-low-poly "Arcade" games with interesting music and design.
@SystemST91 WOAH Thanks for taking the time to respond!! I also enjoy some mediocre games for their qualities so no worries, I'll add all of this list to my backlog. You're a legend. Thank you!!
Can't describe how it is feels, but sor god i love
10:10 WAS MY CHILDHOOD
You're one of the most unique artists i have ever seen. You do really good music and the anime girls are just wow!
Original music, art, crazy effort, and an absolute masterclass in understanding these aesthetics?! Yo your channel is insane! Incredible work, you rock.
This is INSANELY good. I've never seen anybody do the ol EU demo disc vibe justice like this. Bravo 👏
Thank you😊
Oh damn it's Sean Seanson in the house. But then again, where you find DnB, you'll find Sean
I love how you included a bunch of the demo disc music. Absolutely iconic!
i love you System ST91.
Dnb, house, bigbeat, jungle, my favs 😍
Found this on my homepage today. I can dig it.
NO man i cant wait , pls make another visual mix like this i need itttt
These visuals are amazing
Didn’t think I’d see Mia’s old design from Vs. outside of her own game, but here we are.
Appreciate the mix my guy. These sounds are what ive been hunting for since 99. Just this era of music always felt like the future is now. Thank you for your craft. Feeling the rhythm with this mix.
IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOR AGES
Off to a really strong set when you open with remixes of the PS1 demo disc 1 menu theme and MKL Control.
Recently bought your discography after discovering you, you have amazing talent ❤ Definitely one of my favorite artists now
Thank you very much for your support.😊
@SystemST91 You are more than welcome!
how in the living fuck did you find all this? These are all like AMAZING
Oh, that confirmation sound at 0:38 was chunky ❤
I listened to this last Friday while troubleshooting something on my old laptop(installed with operating system Linux Mint) 👍
Holy hell? This is maybe THE most high-effort mix I’ve ever seen on TH-cam. Incredible work
As an editor, I HAVE to know the software involved.
@@jackal27I did the video/animation edit in DaVinci Resolve. I will use it for my future videos as well.
@ Goddamn that’s impressive work. I figured some kind of VJ visualization software was involved as well.
I read the entire description and I can only say this - you achieved what you set out to do. It's brilliant.
OMFG even got a Coolboarders 2 track!? BROOOOOOO
I didn't expect people to acknowledge SNAVE in 2024, but here we are.
From the very beginning of the deep hits your mind and your body all at one time! It keeps you pumped up and lifted up, and the vibes and energy are so strong!
Insane mix, been listening to this on repeat recently, love the visuals too!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
I really wish this aesthetic lasted longer.. It feels like the 90s and early 2000s were ripped from me.
Wow!! The visual work on this is MAD. Im really impressed.
This era in gaming is absolutely magical.
Love the mix and the visuals.
the fuck is cybercore and why is it sooooo awesome?
Always a good day when a new mix from System ST91 comes out. The art hooked me, but the jams made me stay.
I dunno how I feel about your genre titles but this mix is the bomb :)
Perfect timing
I Love YOUR ART
I understand completely
yea

Nice music
HOOOO love what you did with Bomberman!!
@@ViRiXDreamcore 😊✨️
your mix are dope
Insanely well curated mix, and not to mention the visuals are next level. Really capturing the feeling so well. Shocked you only have 8k subs because this is above most mixes in quality and effort and it easily shows. 💜🖤💜 easy sub

this whole video from song selection to visuals is incredible, i'd love to see more of these mixes 🔥
I don’t know why but this makes me want to play phantasy star online episodes 1 & 2!
This is an absolutely incredible mix. Mad props to the actual video itself too, I haven't seen that Powerline logo in years!
I found you earlier this week and have been listening to your shit nonstop, some of my favorite dnb y2k vibey music Ive ever heard. You also have me interested in leaning OpenMPT. Will you ever do physical releases???
Thanks... unfortunately, digital only at this moment.
@SystemST91 i was just curious! Thank you for the music 🙏🙏🙏
