I don't really get what she thinks she was offering them. The daleks have time travel. They have space travel. They have ships that could match the best that the time lords could throw at them. All they need is for the doctor to stop messing with them and eventually they will kill everything. She tells them she's a time lord and she expects them to leave her alive long enough for her to gain the upper hand against them. Killing a time lord and blowing up their magic box as soon as you find one is the best way to keep your evil plans safe.

Fling one of those at a planet, then a million daleks are on the surface past any external defenses. It'd definitely make them more powerful. And even if they can time travel, it may not perhaps be as elegant as Time Lords methods.

This, for me, was a surprisingly intense moment. Yes, we all know that Clara, Missy, and the TARDIS are okay, but the Doctor didn't know that, and therein lies the real cliffhanger. The real cliffhanger isn't the obvious fake-out deaths, but Davros' challenge of the Doctor's ideals. The real cliffhanger is whether or not the Doctor will abandon his compassion and give in to hate.
2:40 You can pinpoint the exact moment his hearts break. Seriously though, Capaldi and Julian Bleach were both outstanding in this scene. Not counting Big Finish, this is probably my favourite Davros story since his debut in Genesis of the Daleks because they really captured that manipulative and calculating villain who is fascinated by the concepts of morality and always seeks to excel even further, being a scientist at heart. Capaldi's Doctor plays off him perfectly too. "I approve of this new face, so much more like mine"

I have a small problem with Moffat doctor lack of fear for the dalek and in this case, the master, he was so afraid during the time war he went to the end of time and turn himself into a human, a creature that he despise and find only useful as labor, and yet now she's tickling them and the doctor is not better...

I think it was explained in the episode that Missy used the energy from the Daleks weapons to power her teliporter. That's how both her and Clara survived.

You know I am not too sure how I feel about all the different types of Dalek designs. I mean it really does just look like fan service and recycling old daleks to save money. I kind of preferred the fact that they were all the same in appearance because of their lack of personality. Also whenever there was a dalek with a different design it meant something important (Dalek sec/supreme dalek). Now dalek sec is just in the background as some sort of regular dalek.
It most likely was fan service, but I hope in the future we get an answer to why there were old and new Daleks everywhere. Also all those old Daleks were remakes of the old designs so honestly it would have saved them much money.
Duncan Morgan Well isn't a cannon reason, but in my head I like to think that this two parter took place after a great war. And in the war a lot of the current Bronze Daleks got destroyed so as a final plan the Daleks open up a Temporal Vault which contains out dated Dalek soldiers.

Plus her multiple fake departures. I mean, how many times in S7/8 did she say she was leaving the Doctor, only to return the next episode? And then at the end of S8, the perfect end for her character -- and then again in the Christmas Special -- but now she kept coming back. So annoying.

One thing that's stupid about these episodes is that they forget the genuine fear the master had built up in the time war. They were the reason he ran to the end of the universe.

I love the variety in the level of Daleks shown here. You have the silver classic Dalek, the dark primer grey Dalek from Genesis of the Daleks and at 01:24 you can see a Heavy Weapons Imperial Dalek from Remembrance of the Daleks. The New Who bronze color Daleks & Tennant era Dalek Supreme, and a black Cult of Skaro Dalek. Thank God they didn't use those awful Power Ranger Daleks.
This was the episode that pretty much fully confirmed that the paradigm daleks was no more. There was a story played out in the doctor who exhibition that hinted at the time war daleks destroying the paradigm daleks however its not proven as Canon. Its a shame they never did a story or at least a scene showing there destruction rather than just quietly sweeping them under the carpet.
Yeah they just wheeled out any older props for the fans. Not gonna question why there's also an 80's renegade, who fought against Davros, in that scene too.
Clara getting "exterminated" is eerily similar to Rose getting transported to the Dalek fleet in series 1. The Doctor's companion runs and gets vaporized and the Doctor can do nothing to stop it.
Notice the renegade dalek at 1:27 just has the pupil eye from the classic series as the blue light was added in post production, so this clip is obviously not from the finalised episode!

One the most underwhelming cliffhangers ever. Gee, did Missy REALLY die? Did Clara REALLY die? Did the TARDIS really done get blown up? No ooooooo! Of COURSE not.
This opening episode was worthy of being the penultimate, although Heaven Sent was great too. As Captain Jack said in Journey's End, this episode was 'BRILLIANT!'

The real tension comes from Davros' challenge of the Doctor's ideals. Whether or not the Doctor will snap and become the Hybrid (which he briefly does in Hell Bent.)

Being one of the few renegade fans who likes Clara I was thinking "Cool! Clara is going to encounter Davros! That means she's done the whole rounds of aliens and villains!" And what bloody happens?! She spends the entire story being bloody Missy's comic relief and getting stuck in a Dalek (AGAIN!!) and bloody Missy gets to meet him instead! Yeah yeah laugh it up the rest of you. Though I suppose even Sarah Jane didn't meet the Master until after she'd left the TARDIS...
On the plus side, what would they have actually talked about? When Donna met Davros, Davros merely tried to shoot her on sight, then when that didn't work, he tried to get a Dalek to do it for him, then he just started screaming "Stop this now!"
This is probably my favorite scene in all of doctor who , the daleks were scariest in several years and this is the first time they actually tried killing a companion this scene was so epic it literally sent shivers down my spine
That's why we love the Episode. You got the original Dalek model used in the black and white era, including one with a Black dome like the Emperor's Guards, the second model used from 1972 to 1988, a Special Weapons Dalek. The bronze third model used since 2005, as well as one in Black like Sec. All headed by their boss, a Supreme Dalek.
+Sean Bragg I honestly can't tell. On the one hand, Missy is way out of character for someone who's supposed to be the Master. On the other hand, Clara was being pushed on us way too much as someone equal to or greater than the Doctor (just like Ashildr was...).
Ignoring the obvious fact that both Missy and Clara survive, and the Doctor's odd decision to resort to begging, this scene is woefully underrated from the angle of the characterisation of both the Daleks and Davros. It gives a wonderful insight into the justification Davros gives to his creations and their way of life, and the Daleks in this episode are presented as more animalistic and instinct-based than before, but in a way that doesn't undermine their character.
@@analothor It's not lazy, the production team went to great lengths to ensure that lots of fan-made Dalek casings were included in this story. All the 1960s era Daleks were fan-made props, the Special Weapons Dalek and Dalek Sec props came from Hire-A-Dalek, the gold-banded 2005 Dalek was made by Specialist Models and the Renegade Dalek prop is actually an original from Remembrance of the Daleks. It's designed to be a love letter to fans, there doesn't have to be a lore explanation.
Can you upload the scene from The Big Bang, where the Doctor and Rory were arguing because Rory wanted to stay behind and protect Amy, who was inside the Pandorica? I love that scene.
This could be a version of Dalek Sec from earlier in his timeline. Maybe the Cult escaped to Skaro after the Battle of Canary Wharf and then teleported away to New York, the 'slaughter' that Dalek Sec talks about could be the Daleks being sucked into the void or the Daleks being destroyed by the sewers in this story
There is a massive error that no one discusses. The 1963 dalek is the one that captured them outside the city, but the dalek she without a dish on the back or slats on the side cannot move unless on metal.
In theory, but this is sci-fi and we've seen how complex the inside of a Dalek is. For all we know there could be a secret power supply somewhere in the base unit or something.
'Into the Dalek' showed that they have some sort of nuclear reactor right? Maybe those models were retrofitted with a similar power supply? Personally, it bothered me too and I thought the same thing when the episode aired.

You know I am not too sure how I feel about all the different types of Dalek designs. I mean it really does just look like fan service and recycling old daleks to save money. I kind of preferred the fact that they were all the same in appearance because of their lack of personality. Also whenever there was a dalek with a different design it meant something important (Dalek sec/supreme dalek). Now dalek sec is just in the background as some sort of regular dalek.
It most likely was fan service, but I hope in the future we get an answer to why there were old and new Daleks everywhere. Also all those old Daleks were remakes of the old designs so honestly it would have saved them much money.

Duncan Morgan Well isn't a cannon reason, but in my head I like to think that this two parter took place after a great war. And in the war a lot of the current Bronze Daleks got destroyed so as a final plan the Daleks open up a Temporal Vault which contains out dated Dalek soldiers.

Plus her multiple fake departures. I mean, how many times in S7/8 did she say she was leaving the Doctor, only to return the next episode? And then at the end of S8, the perfect end for her character -- and then again in the Christmas Special -- but now she kept coming back. So annoying.

I loved seeing this Supreme design again; with the voice and the gold strut formations and the extra light and stuff it's always been one of my favorites.
One thing that's stupid about these episodes is that they forget the genuine fear the master had built up in the time war. They were the reason he ran to the end of the universe.

I love the variety in the level of Daleks shown here. You have the silver classic Dalek, the dark primer grey Dalek from Genesis of the Daleks and at 01:24 you can see a Heavy Weapons Imperial Dalek from Remembrance of the Daleks. The New Who bronze color Daleks & Tennant era Dalek Supreme, and a black Cult of Skaro Dalek. Thank God they didn't use those awful Power Ranger Daleks.

This was the episode that pretty much fully confirmed that the paradigm daleks was no more. There was a story played out in the doctor who exhibition that hinted at the time war daleks destroying the paradigm daleks however its not proven as Canon. Its a shame they never did a story or at least a scene showing there destruction rather than just quietly sweeping them under the carpet.

The Daleks have had their own TARDIS' since "The Chase"
Clara getting "exterminated" is eerily similar to Rose getting transported to the Dalek fleet in series 1. The Doctor's companion runs and gets vaporized and the Doctor can do nothing to stop it.
Considering the principle of transportation was the same it’s not surprising they look so similar.

+Dylan Hayes It's a renegade, the genesis daleks are more glossy and have blue discs on the eyestalk as well as some other differences. Plus the owner or the dalek has stated that it is a renegade many times!

One the most underwhelming cliffhangers ever. Gee, did Missy REALLY die? Did Clara REALLY die? Did the TARDIS really done get blown up? No ooooooo! Of COURSE not.
This opening episode was worthy of being the penultimate, although Heaven Sent was great too. As Captain Jack said in Journey's End, this episode was 'BRILLIANT!'

@@Mr_Bunk The tension isn't in the act itself. It's in how the Doctor will react to it. We as the audience know that Clara, Missy and the TARDIS are fine, but he doesn't. The real tension comes from Davros' challenge of the Doctor's ideals. Whether or not the Doctor will snap and become the Hybrid (which he briefly does in Hell Bent.)

Being one of the few renegade fans who likes Clara I was thinking "Cool! Clara is going to encounter Davros! That means she's done the whole rounds of aliens and villains!" And what bloody happens?! She spends the entire story being bloody Missy's comic relief and getting stuck in a Dalek (AGAIN!!) and bloody Missy gets to meet him instead! Yeah yeah laugh it up the rest of you. Though I suppose even Sarah Jane didn't meet the Master until after she'd left the TARDIS...
On the plus side, what would they have actually talked about? When Donna met Davros, Davros merely tried to shoot her on sight, then when that didn't work, he tried to get a Dalek to do it for him, then he just started screaming "Stop this now!"

This is probably my favorite scene in all of doctor who , the daleks were scariest in several years and this is the first time they actually tried killing a companion this scene was so epic it literally sent shivers down my spine

I love the mixture of new and old dalek designs in the episode, it's cool on how the producers pay respect on the classic series
That's why we love the Episode. You got the original Dalek model used in the black and white era, including one with a Black dome like the Emperor's Guards, the second model used from 1972 to 1988, a Special Weapons Dalek. The bronze third model used since 2005, as well as one in Black like Sec. All headed by their boss, a Supreme Dalek.

Ignoring the obvious fact that both Missy and Clara survive, and the Doctor's odd decision to resort to begging, this scene is woefully underrated from the angle of the characterisation of both the Daleks and Davros. It gives a wonderful insight into the justification Davros gives to his creations and their way of life, and the Daleks in this episode are presented as more animalistic and instinct-based than before, but in a way that doesn't undermine their character.

@@analothor It's not lazy, the production team went to great lengths to ensure that lots of fan-made Dalek casings were included in this story. All the 1960s era Daleks were fan-made props, the Special Weapons Dalek and Dalek Sec props came from Hire-A-Dalek, the gold-banded 2005 Dalek was made by Specialist Models and the Renegade Dalek prop is actually an original from Remembrance of the Daleks. It's designed to be a love letter to fans, there doesn't have to be a lore explanation.

This could be a version of Dalek Sec from earlier in his timeline. Maybe the Cult escaped to Skaro after the Battle of Canary Wharf and then teleported away to New York, the 'slaughter' that Dalek Sec talks about could be the Daleks being sucked into the void or the Daleks being destroyed by the sewers in this story

There is a massive error that no one discusses. The 1963 dalek is the one that captured them outside the city, but the dalek she without a dish on the back or slats on the side cannot move unless on metal.
Might have gotten a similar power supply to the newer daleks.
The new daleks power supply is in those boxes above the gun and sucker. The 1963 dalek doesn't have them.
In theory, but this is sci-fi and we've seen how complex the inside of a Dalek is. For all we know there could be a secret power supply somewhere in the base unit or something.
In a show about time travel you're really going to worry about continuity?
'Into the Dalek' showed that they have some sort of nuclear reactor right? Maybe those models were retrofitted with a similar power supply? Personally, it bothered me too and I thought the same thing when the episode aired.
