Thanks for reminding me of the good ol'times. I played this version a lot - also with Quickstep. But Paolo Bettini is absolute leader, same as Boonen. Bettini for the hilly stuff and Boonen for the flat. Quickstep lacks GC guys though, in 2022 and in 2006. edit: Future versions will lack on "thing" we have enjoyed for two decades: Alejandro Valverde.
Great Video Benji. When the new Feautres for PCM 2022 were announced i remembered vaguely that there was such a Scouting-System before. And to be honest your throwback showed how much better the Game was from the Manager Side of things. I had PCM 2005 and played it for ages, when i made the switch to PCM 2018 and I was a little bit frustrated because of the lack of old features. There are only a few improvments and features that really make the newer Titles worthwile for me, like Pro Cyclist or the Season Planning (although this needs to be looked at. Not really seeing when your rider will peak in Career Mode is kind of sad because it works very well in pro Cyclist). Man what could have been if the Developers had build the new games on this solid Basis of the old Games.....now it just feels like a half finished Game from 2010 which gets a Patch every Year but there is no big Progress like in other Sports Games(atleast over the Years not from Year to Year). I think its time to give the old Game another go and try to beat Lance Nullstrong again.
My god, i love these old pcm videos! Keep them coming!!! Just like in Fifa, PCM actually had a lot of good features in older PCM's that just disappeared! They better bring all these things back!! :)
Fun fact: if your manager name is “Freire Freire”, all your manager skills will be maxed out (or at least you can spend more points) than when you use any other manager name. An early developer of the game’s favourite rider was Oscar Freire
Remember I played this a lot (or was it PCM 2005). If I remember correctly, it was actually kinda hard to keep afloat economically. I played with Discovery Channel, won the Tour and Vuelta with Lance Armstrong, including a bunch of stages, and had a total of 64 wins with him in a season. Yet I still went at least a million over budget and got fired.
I played PCM 2004 and 2005 almost religiously... using Saeco with Simoni and Cunego and some good domestiques like Mazzoleni you would kill every team early on on mountain stages.
I haven't played back then but in the past ~10 years the thing I am getting from the "progress" is that the original developers are all gone and all the stuff that is being added is just pasted on top of the original mechanics and is mostly quirky (on the level of game mechanics). Also as you nicely pointed out, there were some very nice details like riders' preferences that are just gone now :(
It was a superb era, I still have original DVD of that game. There was one frustrating thing - fitness in career. It was a really difficult mathematics, then PCM daily and Lachi's calculator made it easier, but it was still not ideal. 2011 or 2013 are the best of the series
The secondary sponsors is what brought it all back to me! Man this game was ace. They should bring back the being able to move to a new team, imagine doing a journey man style save in PCM! OOOOH and those photos on the training camps. FLASHBACKS!
Oh and that scouting system. I was a big Erik Zabel fan so I was scouting for the "new" Erik Zabel so would scout in the region he was from to find a new one.
pcm 2007 was my first. bought it for 2 euros in lidl. i was 10 yo so i was playing without real names fix cause i didnt know :P i played career mode with quickstep and did same strategy every race. 1. pick the best squad 2. bettini or Tom attacks 10km to go 3. win or die :D i didnt know why my Bettini had not enough power during giro. then ive learnt bout tiredness :P What i didnt like about this game was water bottles system. Oh almost forgot that on my pc 1 stage was loading for 5-10min.
Also on the trainer bit.. it's a pain in the ass you have to open each rider page seperately to just select the coach. Would be much easier if it was like this version
This was a great PCM version. I have owned all PCMs from CYM4 to PCM2021 😅Looking to other games like FM it's not very impressive how far they have progressed over a period of almost 20 years.. But sure, I keep on playing 😆
It's my all time favorite PCM game! Of course compared to 2021 it's not that good, although as you pointed out, some of the features are better. I think my favorite feature of this version is that there is a percentage in the training tab, where you can see how much the training is doing to the individual stats of the rider. So you can track how they are doing and when they will improve. I don't know if that's realistic, but it was fun to be able to see those statistics. Nowadays I open my savefile to look at the limit stat. I like to have a glimpse of the future. The removal of the changing of teams is another thing that really bugs me. I'm not able to do a career mode with 1 team for more than 2 years. I have to start again. Since PCM 2015 I think I completed 5 or 6 seasons in total, and started around 300 or more careers per PCM game (2073 hours of playing). In PCM 2006 that wasn't the case, because I could change team and play for way longer with one savefile. But maybe I lost patience now I'm older :P Thank you for the nostalgia :)
If I could take something from 2006-08 editions, I'd bring back: 1)possibility to buy a rider from another team (of course for significant amount of money). 2) The old scouting system, where you actually couldn't see the young generations, before you scouted them.
I do think the game has improved. However I remember being sacked at Phonak having signed Valverde for the following season. I was really sad about that. 😀
The interface for equipment sponsor selection in 21 is a disaster. There's no way of knowing whether Shimano or Bontrager has better ratings, so you just have to guess, and you never know if you guessed right or not. Then sometimes you spend all year doing R&D and gain less than half a star... might as well remove the feature entirely 😆
Im only playing the 2005-2006/2006 PCM. It is much better , funnier to play than the newer recycling Managers. No really it has been the same game over and over , selling it as brand new game every year and in facts its the same as the previous one. Reminds me of Fifa.
Hoe kan het zijn dat bij pro cyclist als je kiest voor een sprint upgrade dat je geen sprint erbij krijgt als je de max potential nog niet heb behaald? Moet je dan alsnog de potentie upgraden?
I Love this Game it was the First PCM i (really) Played in my life. And yes There are many many "New" Features in the Last years where Cyanide says its new but it has Bern in There earlier... Its Just saaaaad. :D Also how did you manage to Play this Game? I wasnt Able to start It on Windows 10
@@BenjiNaesenTV Too sad. Another cool feature was that every basque rider, has a little basque flag next to the spain flag, for freaks like me who play the Euskaltel-Euskadi Challenge and want to only sign basque riders :D
Alright that's it. 16 years with few improvements and removal of cool features. 16 times you have been required to pay for what is essentially a patch that would be free in any other game. For 16 years they've had this ridiculous business practice, that's only possible because of their monopoly on cycling games. I've had enough. I'm making my own game.
I actually tried getting it on my newer PC but that made the whole PC crash. So i have had to install it on an old useless PC to bring back nostalgia. T-Mobile with Basso as captain
@@andreasmerrildrasmussen6474 It happened to me too :) just want to confirm it's actually possible to play pcm06 on win10 (I play with the old cd-rom and some extra files I found on the forum to make the game work)
Isn't it typical French, going backwards ? Posting new stuff that was in the game +10 years ago. Perhaps hoping people had forgotten. Many things from back then I miss. Be able to sign some of the riders with no contract at the start of the save. Heck in real life you can sign such a long time into the season. So perhaps a possibility to end of March would have been top notch. The thing of paying more for sending your team far away for races would be realistic. It narrows the small teams to their neighbourhood. Too many times one see small teams with low budget compete on the other side of the world. Not realistic. One thing I think I remember from the old days was that prio to the race you had much more managerial decisions to make for the riders. "Keep an eye on this or that rider or team", Those kind of instructions to the team. Anyway more of the Managergame, as it is called I believe. Guess they have gone further and further away from mamagerstyle game, which the arcade type Pro Cyclist proves. A long hard look at Football Manager is what the devs should do with a game like PCM with so much potential.
Yes! I love these throwbacks - especially with the shade thrown towards newer PCM's.. ;-)
If they deserve it in my opinion, they'll receive the shade. 😬
PCM 2006 is my Fav. PCM. I played it since Release Date all years again. Its also the last game with Jan Ullrich which is a Hero of my Childhood.

It'd be cool to see legends added, like the new F1 games have with Senna and whatnot. Get Merckx, Coppi, Indurain all in there.

This was actually my all time favourite game and the one I definately played the most! Thank you for the recap!
Oh, also I would love to play as a manager who can change team and decide the roles at the start of the career
I recall that in PCM06 other teams were allowed to propose transfers for other riders! I remember accepting a huge fee from T-Mobile for Igor Antón =D
That feature is in PCM07 - you can buy riders yourself in PCM06, but you don't get offers from other teams for your own riders.

In Poland it was Virenque, Moncutie and Sylvian Chavanel. In Spain - Joseba Beloki, Aitor Gonazalez and O. Sevilla
