    Thanks for this Olivio. I had to do a colour replacement a while back and used the adjustment which wasn't bad but I had completely forgotten (If I ever really knew) about the colour replacement brush. Let's have more short videos on specific tools. When you don't use them very often it is easy to forget that they even exist.

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you :) I mostly use a rough version of refine and then rather fix the mask with a normal brush later on myself. I feel like that gives me better results. Of course that is not useful for very small details like hair, but AP was never great at selecting hair and in that case a different software to create these finer selections is probably a faster and easier way

    just something that I hope helps -- Contiguous -- Very close or connected in space or time. Pronounced "kun tig u us" or the un sound is as in the word until. Tig rhymes with dig as in dig a hole. U as in You and us as in Bus. I once before tried to help with Copy and will once more. Caw (as in the sound a crow makes) pee -- what one would do as #1 in the bathroom. Caw pee = copy. or this way Cop as in slang for Policeman then E. so Cop E = Copy. Thanks for this tutorial. When I did a lot of darkroom work my favorite combination was Agfa's warm-toned Portriga paper, toned in selenium. The result was very unusual. The paper itself had a dark warm brownish tint, and the selenium would add a trace of cool purple to it. The results were very rich blacks and rich lower midtones. I can't seem to get this effect via Capture One's split-toning feature-at least partly because there are no blending modes in Capture One's layers. I have wondered how this kind of thing might be done in Affinity Photo. A video showing enhancing b&w images with split-toning would be pretty interesting! (Perhaps to get the full effect it also requires luminosity masking? I don't know...)

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike Arst, that sounds amazing, but i don't know the results you got from that process, so i can't really reproduce it. Did you have a look at Nik Collection? It has some very nice Analogfilm and BW Tools :)

      @@OlivioSarikas Thanks for your reply. I know that my brief description does not provide much to go on. It's a difficult effect to describe.
      I guess the approach could be more general: How to do subtle split-toning of b&w images using Affinity Photo?
      I do have the Nik tools (from the time when they could be downloaded for free) and could probably find a way to get them working with Capture One. I haven't used them yet, though.

I especially like your highlighting of the difference between the two tool ! - I still don't understand why AP makes it so difficult to replace "white" pixels. I have downloaded free macros from a variety of sources that help to isolate the white pixels with varying tweaks from white to gray, but I just don't understand why AP couldn't have built in a way to isolate white with some threshold to allow for deleting or recoloring.

      @@OlivioSarikas Well Olivio do I feel so stupid! Thank you for your advice. I was being fooled by the non transparent background, as I was defaulting to white. I also saw other people complaining about this on the internet and convinced myself that white pixels couldn't be detected. I did a controlled experiment to prove your advice and you are correct. So all the macros that Dave from In-Affinity and some of Jim Ritson's ones to find white to gray pixels perhaps is not necessary for me now. I enjoy your channel as well as the others I subscribe to. If you remember, I asked you a few times about using Luminar as a plug in. My workaround, for the MAC was to purchase Keyboard Maestro and I wrote some macros that export a PNG and import into Luminar - this saves a bunch of keystrokes. Not the best solution, but automated. Nice feature and tutorial. But it turned out you cannot simply replace for example the color blue with the color white in a technical sketch due to Affinity only changing the the color tone but not the brightness. So when I ask Affinity to replace a light blue sketched item with white it gets gray. To bad...

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's because white is not a color. Color as in HUE. So, as you found out correctly, it can only replace colors (hue) in the brightness (tone) of the original color of the image. If you look at a hue slider (like in the HSL adjustment) you will see that it doesn't include white, black or any gray values, because all of them are not colors

      How can I replace all blue with white? Photoshop has a color replacement for that but not Affinity?
