- The Maruti Suzuki Van was launched with the Maruti 800 SS80 in 1984. Just like the SS80, the initial lot of the Van had all Japanese parts right from the bulbs to the engine components. From 1984 to 1987, it was called fondly called the Maruti Van and when the car got localized, it was renamed to Omni in 1988.
The Van/Omni had a production run of more than 30 years and was discontinued only because of the emission norms and it never ran out of demand.
Here, we have a pristine single owner 1985 Maruti Van in the city of Nasik in Maharashtra which wears all the Japanese parts even today. The owner Vinaykumar Chumble has fancier cars like Mustang, BMW but he never wishes to part with the Van as its not just a car for him, but an emotional story which his family shares and its the same with India.

In Omni and maruti 800 the sound of closing the door is very good and opening the door is very fun. And also there engine sounds is also very nice
I spent some time in India in the late 80s, and I remember this lil van. Quite an interesting vehicle.
The Van was sold here in India upto 2020!
@@WeekendAutomotive Well, it's a cute little minivan, kind of an iconic design, like the old VW minibus used to be, back in the 60s. It's fascinating to see the different makes and models of cars sold in other countries.

Sir as per your collection you can also collect a Japanese spec Gypsy in Army green color with white Headlight Garnish and a soft top. I mean the car drove by Rishi Kapoor in a hindi movie with Meenakshi Sheshadri.
The same green Gypsy codenamed MG410 shown in movies like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Gair Kanooni and Hum

Do change the badge of the dicky door..I remember we had a 1989 omni van with two badges one with Hindi badge and another maruti suzuki badge..the sticker for the air filter in the front driver door..I remember it was a white sticker with blue writing
You're right. That sticker was available from the factory. Very rough to get now.

The dicky door has the new suzuki logo and newer maruti suzuki badging..try to change that.otherwise an excellent example
Suzuki badge was put in early 2000s as an identity of Japanese components. The Maruti Suzuki badge is correct :)

The Indian parts are made by Lumax. The Japanese parts are made by Tokai Denso or Koito. Upto 1987, all Marutis had parts made in Japan. From 1988, they became Indian.
