  • In 2004, someone thought it would be cool to combine a MIDI controller, synthesizer, and an audio interface. The synth engine is derived from Novation's Supernova and it reminds me a bit of a Korg MS2000 with it's early/mid-2000's VA sound. There aren't many keyboard/interface combinations like this out there so check this out if that's your thing.

Great demo! Really liked the sound. The second patch reminded me of Resident Evil save room music. :)

hi cool vid. I got an x-station 25 yesterday and was wondering how to control it externally with a different keyboard for a wider playing range like you did.

You can go midi-out on the larger keyboard > midi in on the X-Station. Just be sure to set "MIDI IN" in the KX Global Menu for "Synth Midi Src" (press "Global" twice), I believe.

(And if you connect with USB, you can do much the same thing, as the USB connection acts as a virtual 2-way 2-cord midi cable. I route the signals through Cubase (you could probably use Midi-Ox or similar), and use all USB connection to play the X-station with an 88-key yamaha.)

Good work! There is something i wonder. Is it possible to play two different sounds at the same time, x station and midi keyboard, as you connected?

Just got one... all parameters in Synth mode show “no control”. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I might dive into the global menu and check that local is set to "ON" Not sitting in front of my synths so I can't double-check this but it's worth a shot. Usually "No control" I only ever see when a knob/button is used just for midi templates (example: Filter page 2 doesn't have any function in synth mode. It just exists to double the number of controls you can have on a midi template)

    Please help me
I want to buy A Synthesizer,
After hours of listening to my budget Synthesizer,
It's the Synthesizer that sounds best to me,
The problem is that it is really cheap compared to others and it's a little scare me,
And I also read online comments about him,
And did not see that they excited from him as I was excited,
Most of the responses said he was just nice
So please if you can answer me a few questions,
1 . In this video, do I hear the Novation X-Station ORIGINAL preset?
    2. Is the device in the video connected to reverb or delay? Or it's pure sound
    3. Is it good for synthesis?
    4. Why is it so cheap- $ 242.99, has it got any problems, or drawback that I have not seen?
    Sorry for my weak English

They are cheap because they are old and not very collectible. I don't really see a reason to buy this over something like a brand new Roland Gaia (which will be new, reliable, and come with a warranty if you buy it from an authorized Roland dealer)

Fear not. The X-station keys are quite nice. Some of my favorite synth keys from that era were on Novation Synths. The keybed is probably the most well-built part of the hardware! Plus, aftertouch :)

@@highimdevin7108 Two ways: go Din MIDI OUT on the controller keyboard to MIDI IN on the X-Station, or have the controller keyboard routed to a computer, then to the X-Station via midi over USB.
