      The form factor of this stuff is to try and accommodate the thousands of tiny little technical components all mashed together - they have to build it to fit the technical specs of everything they have to cram into one giant room to make it work (like the large hadron collider) - then from there it's all about trying to make it functional (while maintaining that sci-fi sleekness!)

      Question; if gravity is supposed to be the driving force in this process (and the universe), how come they use electricity here? Since you are of the younger generation studying this field I feel obligated to point out that some leading experts in the field have a completely different concept from the Standard Cosmological model, the MOND model or every other Big Bang based model.
      It states that electricity is the driver and all other forces are manifestations of it depending on the circumstances. It called Electric Universe concept. If you have an open mind you could give it a try. Best place to start would be Thunderbolts project channel on YT.🙂

    • @qpqpqpqpqpqpqpqp
      @qpqpqpqpqpqpqpqp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@pavalotheartist gravity is not the driving force in the fusion process. any way of creating extremely high energies can create fusion, as you need enough energy to overcome coulomb repulsion (it's more complicated than this, but that's the general idea). you are peddling conspiracy videos though, so i doubt you'll listen

    • @bassboylowg
      @bassboylowg 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did the math and it came out to be 2,262,000,000,000 watts, they must have some GIANT capacitors to store that kind of power.

    • @MrJest2
      @MrJest2 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Where I worked, we had a 7.6 terrawatt machine. The capacitor enclosure was the height of a three story building about 60' wide by 100' long. At full charge, it held enough electricity to power every light in the US for 4 minutes... that was discharged in 4 nanoseconds. The individual capacitors were about 2' x 2' x 4', mounted in pairs. Their capacitance was so high that, left with open terminals (we always shorted them with heavy wire when not in use), they could "self-charge" just from the free electrons in the atmosphere and store a lethal zap just sitting in a warehouse, not hooked up to anything. Very expensive, and custom made.

    im not discrediting this by any means I just have one question. . If it recreates the conditions of an H Bomb inside that cylinder how is it there just climbing in there with normal looking protective gear and just a regular face mask?

    • @BlueIceNinja98
      @BlueIceNinja98 8 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      +MEGEM TESLA It recreates the head and energy of an H bomb through an electromagnetic pulse. This creates x rays that are dangerous during said pulse but unlike with an H bomb, the radiation is simply a pulse as there is no real "radioactive material". This means the radiation simply dissipates and the sight not contaminated. Basically it creates the "conditions" (heat, energy, power) of an H bomb, but without any radioactive material.

    So the title is wrong! Stars are created and maintained by gravity. This machine uses electric and magnetic fields to produce the conditions for fusion. So it can not be a star!
    I've noted that media outlets have been fixated on using references to stars when ever nuclear fusion is being discussed. This is just not correct. Our current technology just does not allow us to manipulate gravity fields like that found in the center of stars. This trend is not helping the cause of science as it might sound amazing, but it is just plain wrong. Please media folks help us all understand our world a bit better by discontinuing the reference to human made artificial stars.

    • @hadhad69
      @hadhad69 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +Brian McConkey The title asks a question, how can it be wrong? It isn't making any claims.
      The point is the Z Machine is the most powerful and efficient radiation source on earth. It uses high powered magnetic fields and high electrical currents, just as are found on the Sun, to conduct research into high energy density science.
      It allows research into Inertial Confinement Fusion, where conditions similar to the core of the Sun are created. So...can we create a star on Earth? Not literally no, but we can imitate one pretty damn well.

    • @Hunnter2k3
      @Hunnter2k3 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Brian McConkey While you are certainly true on the whole star aspect, this video title isn't technically wrong at all.
      This video and series was more about Can We Make A Star, questioning how far along we are in to figuring out a way to harness its energy, the fusion.
      Plus this was also a little old, it doesn't have any references to newer fusion research which are improving at a steady pace. New series when BBC? This was a great series.
      As for gravity fields and such, who knows, we might be able to do that sooner or later. We have* found Higgs, so as more research is done there, we might figure out gravity and how it comes about.
      So far, we are basically clueless about gravity other than the what it does to space and time.
      *Whether we have found Higgs for definite is still heavily contested by some people. And to be honest, I agree. But further research will be done soon on that to confirm it even more.

    • @NicholasJNadon
      @NicholasJNadon 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Brian McConkey Yes, you are right. But ask yourself, to the everyday person who knows little to nothing of star formation or anything about stars or even the concept of fusion, how would you get them interested in knowing about this? Why ask that question? Because it's the everyday person's wallet that is funding these projects and by gaining more public interest will ultimately increase funding.

      +Brian McConkey You need more mass duh

    • @7ruthVVizard
      @7ruthVVizard 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +The Wizard Of Dub just hitting a small spot in the air doesn't and won't do anything. You need more mass to start a star. and if you are down make it react into a mini star. but you need some thing near the moons mass. and even then it wont be a true star. so you know what? why don't we just use our own sun's energy? shouldn't that be the goal? it's a possibility. it already emits alot of energy, we could just take that you know?

    What I like about BBC documentaries compared to their 'merican counterparts is the fact that the BBC actually EXPLAINS how the whole mess works instead of just saying "wow, it can simulate a white dwarf!" and just show a bunch of complex machinery.
    Granted, it is a very basic, broad explanation, but it is AN EXPLANATION. You can then infer that the Z Machine is like an electromagnetic mortar on an insane scale that is designed to focus all power on one spot (or compact enough bundle of spots), that the concentric design is due to the EM's tendency to form donut-shaped orbits, that everything else is just measuring instruments and safety features, because you are handling some serious power ESE!
    Thanks BBC.

    • @NeverSuspects
      @NeverSuspects 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Fusion is what powers the sun. Atoms of Tritium and Deuterium (isotopes of hydrogen, Hydrogen-3 and Hydrogen-2, respectively) unite under extreme pressure and temperature to produce a neutron and a helium isotope. Along with this, an enormous amount of energy is released, which is several times the amount produced by fission."
      Fusion would be able to use heavy water as a fuel source I believe not a radioactive heavy element like fission.
      Current nuclear power plants use fission which is the splitting of atoms.
      As for what is greener, in my opinion, nuclear energy is very green if done safely as all the waste from it isn't vented into the atmosphere like with gas and coal. It is also capable of producing the amount of energy needed that current renewable sources will most likely never be able to match. Many reactors in operation today are also of older designs and with newer designs and good planning that account for the build sites potential natural disasters and transport for permanent storage of the nuclear waste it would be very safe.

    well, i'm not sure what the problem is. we have a lot of stars. stars are being made all the time all over da world. just look at that show Americ's Got Talent and the Voice. they're finding stars all the time. what the hell is all the fuss about. that Z machine thing is no match for people like Card-B or Miley Cyrus. my favorite star actually is Brooke Candy - i'm in love wit her!

    They are admitting that it's all electrical the sun is powered electrically. They cant make a star if they wanted to. Want to see how you really create a star. Look up the safire project. SAFIRE PROJECT SAFIRE PROJECT

      Are you supposed to be some horrible troll? This machine is able to create 80 times the amount of power of every power plant on earth... Combined. They just dont know how to harvest all the power it makes. But if they did we could take down every power source on earth and need to activate this a few times every i dont bother to find out. So I wouldnt call this a "joke" m8

    What I don't get is what is the point of it. Like what does the machine do... I mean. They said what it recreates. But why do this? How does mankind benefit from this? It looks expensive. Feel like there are much better things we could be spending this money on

      it creates a pinch of electromagnetic fields in 1 axis and electric currents in the other axis, the result is an increase in current density and a decrease in electromagnetic field size, which makes the electromagnetic field stronger.
      The result is a positive feedback loop that gets stronger and stronger and stronger.. until POP and nuclear fusion is caused by the exponential entrapment of fusion fuel which has been turned into plasma by the huge electrical currents.

      @TCBYEAHCUZ 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The idea is to then learn how we can sustain a plasma Z-pinch in defintely, to create a plasmoid or "ball lightning" and see if we can take energy out of the system in the form of heat. This could be another way to harness fusion power.

      Once the pinch ( tightening helix ) is started you would have to supply 26 million amps continuously to sustain it ( not very efficient ) , this is for testing with an xray light source , It's a large xray machine , nothing more.
