The 2002 Godhra Kand, also known as the Godhra train burning, was a fire that occurred on February 27, 2002 on the Sabarmati Express near the Godhra railway station in Gujarat, India. The fire killed 59 Hindu pilgrims and karsevaks returning from Ayodhya. The incident is said to have sparked the 2002 Gujarat riots, a three-day period of inter-communal violence that left 1,044 people dead, 223 missing, and 2,500 injured.
