  • Haidar Reda Mohamad, an International Peacemaking Program student at Hartford Seminary, discusses the Sabian Mandaeans. These religious adherents, who live in modern Iraq, belong to an ancient religion. They are monotheistic and have several holy books. They believe in six prophets, from Adam to John the Baptist and speak Aramaic. Haidar offers a PowerPoint presentation about their practices and beliefs.
    About the Presenter:
Haidar Reda Mohamad worked for Mesopotamia, an Iraqi magazine. He applied to study at Hartford Seminary, he said, "to gain knowledge, skills and practices to incorporate into my research and dialogue." "I hope to come out of this program ready to bring change and work for peace," he said. Haidar is enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Interfaith Dialogue.

This is quite interesting, thanks for posting. It would be great if the seminary could invest in a microphone that would pick up the speaker's voice without all the echoes, which make for an unfortunate sound quality. A small pick-up mic on the speaker's lapel or at the podium would probably solve the problem.

I've heard of a group of people who call themselves Sabeans (It is
interesting because Mandeans are also called Sabeans)
They believe the description of Jesus in Drāšā D-Yaḥyā and other
mandaean books, does not refer to Jesus of the Gospels, but the
anti-Christ came into the world posing as the real Jesus, but John the
Baptist discovered his evil plans and stopped him for people to
recognize the true Jesus (the Jesus of gospels).
Maybe it has to do with the fact that they have the same conception of
the Day of Judgment which Christians and Muslims, in which Jesus will
return to destroy the anti-christ and be crowned "king of kings"
Apparently they believe that "God gave the Mandaeans the right to doubt
about Jesus, because they think that the Antichrist will return to usurp
the position of Christ again toward the End of Time, and with that
doubt, the true Jews, Christians and Muslims can realize about the
antichrist trick and retrain before will be too late".
it's difficult to point where this conception of sabeanism originated.
some say it was in today Sauri Arabia and others say it was in Yemen.
