    Go to sleep timer settings and make sure both timer and auto power off are both off. Then go to picture settings and set mode to vivid, backlit to 100, brightness to 65, contrast to 80, color to 65, tint to 0 and sharpness to 10. These settings will ensure that there's still sime sort of a signal during a transition. It's been a month and a half now and my unit still works ok. It's worth trying before you return your unit.

    I have the same problem on the TV that I bought few weeks back. I thought it was an issue with the cable or power supply. I called VIZIO and they said it was a firmware problem and they didn't have a timeline of when it was going to be fixed. I am also going to return it. Thanks for a detailed video. Hopefully VIZIO gets its act together and gets this fixed to stay in business.

    These TVs are so strange. I bought a Visio years ago and never had any problems, other than over heating if left on too long. Since I had such good fortune with my previous model, I went straight to Vizio to buy my "Smart" TV. Right out of the box I should have known something was wrong. It started shutting off the moment I tried to connect it with my Verizon hotspot. I somehow thought the two were syncing in some strange ritual, as the tablet screen would dim in perfect harmony with the Vizio powering down... Then I would turn the TV back on and it would be connected to the hotspot. Now, the TV refuses to work at all while the hotspot is turned on, it shuts off all function from the remote and the TV shuts off. Unbelieveable.

    Thanks for the vid. I have the 65" and it's doing the same thing. Only 2 yrs old. Looks like I'm done with Vizio, also.

    I have 3 Vizio and read this before calling and they quickly walked me through fixing this very quickly. Simply go through the menu system and reset it to factory default and do not select any wireless or network. Then go in and deactivate the auto off timer after 10 minute and wala...went away. It was happening to 2 of my 3 tvs and this fixed it on both units.

    Hard to believe there has not been a class action lawsuit yet? There is law in California called Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act which says the a company "shall make available to service and repair facilities … functional parts to effect the repair of a product for at least seven years after the date a product model or type was manufactured." Vizio headquarters are in CA so this Lemon Law applies to them. I have the same problem with it shutting off. It used to do it a lot more, but that was when I used the apps.

    • @lloydclark4679
      @lloydclark4679 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That law should be US wide and on everything Glad to hear CA has it although it seems they are always ahead of the rest of the states and I am from ND which they are really slow and 25 -35 yrs behind the rest of the states. Will have to check in on that law though, sounds like a very well needed law here in the US anymore.Can't buy anything and I do say anything that will last here anymore, lucky to get 1 yr. out of whatever.

    I feel your pain… I bought a Vizio 32" Smart TV and it also turns off on its own. It's very frustrating. The TV is now with Best Buy Geek SQUAD getting repaired. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. Their customer service SUCKS, they can simply ignore everything you state, but the Geek Squad techs are a pleasure to talk to.

  • @JeramieCurtice

    This is interesting because as a TV Repair tech, I have seen a few vizio models do the opposite on a bright scene. This usually happens because of the built in ambient light sensor used for auto brightness adjustment. The TV confuses itself from its own light that it produces. A power supply replacement will not fix this as the problem lies in the mainboard and the light sensor technology. You can try to disable your light sensing settings in the menu under custom settings for picture.

  • @ScottsSynthStuff
    @ScottsSynthStuff  13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @seatboi This TV is just over a week old. I don't think the power supply capacitors have had time to fail. Not only that, the TV exhibited this behavior right out of the box.
    Doesn't matter now, I've returned the TV and replaced it with a Sharp TV - a better TV, normally much more expensive, but found it on sale. Score!

    I have this issue as well. I have noticed that this issue only happens using the smart tv functions, when i use an apple tv or any other connected Device i have no issues with it turning off. Fairly certain it is a software issue.

  • @DennisRemillard
    @DennisRemillard 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I though I was doing something to cause the issue, and to my delight and concern that my 55" M550SV has the problem.
    Too bad because I was going out today to buy another Vizio, but because of this issue and the poor tech support response I decided to go buy a Sony instead. "G" Vizio it's time to fix the issue....I am asked alot about what tv to buy...my answer will be not Vizio and point them to this video as to why.

    Same problem with my 55" vizio. Talked to vizio and they acted like they had not heard of the problem. And this is from two years ago. My 4th and last. They will be out of business in a couple of years with this way of treating their good customers.

    I have a Model M3D650SV that is turning off by itself. It does it about 3 times and then it will stay on. Is there some update that we can do to correct the problem? When I called VIZIO Tech support, they suggest that I Clear the Memory back to Factory Default. I DOUBT this will work but we will see.

  • @ScottsSynthStuff
    @ScottsSynthStuff  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @pyro1284 No, I gave up, took it back and bought a Sharp. It's worked perfectly from day one, and I have no complaints or regrets. I've heard a LOT of reports of other model Vizio's doing this same thing. I don't know that I would buy another Vizio as a result.

  • @kardoentertainment

    Just an opinion, i dont think it's the capacitors because it happens only during a transition (fade to black). If there's an issue with the capacitors in the power supply, this issue should be happening at any point. Then again, this is what I have experienced on my unit.

    @trainer21685 Um, no. It's a now well-known problem with these TV's, and has been admitted as a firmware bug by Vizio. They claim a new firmware update will fix it, but I have yet to hear of anyone who actually had the firmware update done.

  • @trainer21685

    Never had that problem with mine. Leads me to believe that, while a maybe slightly counter-intuitive GUI, the problem is in the settings and ultimately an id-10-t operator error.

    Thanks for posting this video. I have a Vizio M550SV and it is acting the same way. The way I look at it, when the unit senses that there's no input it shuts itself down i.e., fade ti black or a quick transition to a commercial having a quick gap. It actually has a feature built in that does that but I really think it needs an update. I did some tweaking that might have solved this problem. I am still monitoring it but so far it has not been doing that for almost 2 weeks now. It might work for

    this just started happening to mine. the funny thing is, I've used my vizio for almost a year. it worked fine until I got WiFi, and connected a Blu-ray player. this seems like a deliberate bug. it's now useless. this whole time it worked fine for game consoles and DVDs. the problem came in with the internet. because I used my Blu-ray player for over a week before i got WiFi, the movies played fine,the TV never turned off,same with games, Wii, PlayStation,odroid, works grade-A. stay off the internet, it works. WHICH is stupid, like a bug. fix it vizio.

    My tv was turning off, back on and many times defaultung to Smartcast vs regular tv mode Could not find any way to turn Smartcast off.
    I just learned your Google Home account may be involved here. When I opened the Google Home on my phone my Vizio TV automatically went to SMARTCAST. I think the auto on/off could be a signal fm Google to remind us of all the "good stuff we're missing. I just uninstalled Google Home app on my phone & tablet. Stay tuned.
    FYI. Before this I already tried:
    1. Soft Power cycle,
    2. Unplugging/holding power button/turn back on,
    3. Reset to Quick Start vs Eco,
    4. Settings>Reset & Admin> to turn off Smart feature [not there so I turned off Viewing Data],
    5. Turned USB power off
    6. CEC disabled.
    7. Turned Timer off.

    My 14 month old vizio E400i-B2 has just started doing the same thing. If i'ts a bad firmware or needed firmware update then that can only be fixed by them Vizio and is not due to TV being damaged or defected due to wear and tare or neglect. I told tech support that I don't have a service problem that my tv is not damaged. IT SHUTS ITSELF OFF and then just blinks. It happens when using wireless apps like Netflix, Pandora, YT ect.. Vizio needs to fix this for FREE or they need to take their TV back and I'll go get another brand. If we all return our Vizios smart TV they will (do something) and Fast. When you call them they never mention it's bad firmware. They told me it was a POWER issue which would cost around 200+ to repair. But I knew from coming online and reading how many customers had the Xact same complaint the tech agent was lying.

    My e3d420vx does the same. I agree with the Caps issue being the problem. There was also a note stating that when someone had it on an issolated power line it was better. I would say that the issue may be an inability to draw enough power to fire up the screen again after a bright / black / bright scene transition. The caps should be helping through that but just cant keep up with demand.

    I just got a vizio smart tv from Costco. I've been trying to watch the same half hour of a program for over an hour now. It keeps shutting off. This happens mostly on Netflix and TH-cam. This tv is worthless.

    ok guys my vizio started acting same way turning off itself and then after months of turning off and on some many times; it will start having problems with the image(video) taking long hours to see the image and finally you will not see video at all, what use is a tv without video(total loss) not even for playing games or videos so I will probably not buy any more vizio brand be any size or smart tv.

    Manufacturers should be forced to repair, or upgrade their crap for a lot more than the lousy 1 year they provide.

    NOT a "firmware problem"...needs NEW CAPACITORS in either power supply pc board or ballast board, or BOTH...these modern TV's are LITERALLY BUILT TO FAIL once out of warranty! The capacitors are rated right at the top end of thier tolerance, so they run hot & fail....just needs caps replaced with bigger beefier ones & it'll last for a good long time!

  • @CAMELFLAM
    @CAMELFLAM 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @seatboi Vizio replaced both in mine today, and 2-3 hours after it did the same thing. I called them back, and now they are sending me a new one. I was told firmware before. The worst excuse i heard from them was that it was connected to the internet and the tv did this to protect itself from a virus. waiting on my new tv now. Hopefully I won't have the same problems.

    I have the same TV and everytime it goes to commercial it turns off. Anytime there is a break between shows, or on demand, Xbox, anything. It shuts off. Such a great tv too. But this problem makes it a piece of garbage. Vizio had me do a hard reset a few months back and it corrected the problem for about 6 months and is now doing it again CONSTANTLY. it is not a power supply problem as it happens everytime at the same time when it cuts to commercial etc. just like in this video. So angry!

    that's one of many reasons not to buy vizio tvs the new tvs are garbage. most of the tvs that are bought newer than 2005 seem only to last a short time before they crap out brand dont matter its the parts they put in them, i just had a very nice tv less than 3 years old crap out it was non repairable alot of tv techs wont touch them nether around here. they say its cheaper to buy new then repair a exiting tv set.
