      Try to measure as level as possible because measuring on a slope will throw things off .

    The best part about this method is that as long as you use the same multiplier for all 3 sides, the result is always the same and the numbers are whole! x1=3,4,5 x2=6,8,10 x3=9,12,15 x4=12,16,20 and so on. The original idea behind this method was to eliminate the use of fractions and keep it simple, but feel free to define one side and calculate the other 2 sides.

    Having just come inside from an unsuccessful attempt to lay out guides for a rectangular platform's posts, I'm grateful for this video! Thinking about the Pythagorean Theorem as 3,4,5 helped, as did watching you use a level and tape measure to do this by yourself. Does anybody have tips on doing this when your ground surface is dirt and unevenly sloped? I can't grade the surface, because this is for a treehouse and, well, the tree is in the middle with all its roots!

    • @austinhastings8793
      @austinhastings8793 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably too late for you, but for any future readers: you can use a "water level." That is, a length of hose with water in it, and some clear tubing at each end (or entirely clear tubing, if you have it). Fill the hose with water, and hold the two ends apart. The water at each end will be at the same level. (Larger-diameter hoses will "settle down" faster. Prefer 3/4 over 1/4 tubing.)
      This is nice for a tree house because you can wire the hose to the tree, and you can bend the hose however you like in the middle (just keep the middle lower than the ends).

      Love these long-term discussions on youtube. We come to it as we need it. Another method that works for posts if you take a string and stretch it to mark the distances on the string, and then attach a level to the sides of the triangle.
