Regardless I won’t try to redeem the police system with my words to you or all the other people who have lost faith with the police system. But what I will say is that nothing is perfect and mistakes will happen, but eventually times will change and swatting will be caught red handed and stopped in its track.

@@marinakovac5850 That's my question. Kidnapping and murder happens often enough for there to be a protocol. Why just start shooting?I get there is a possibility someone might have a gun but I'm confused by the idea that there is no other way to handle it. Honestly, I think there needs to be better training and biyearly psychological testing. Do you really want an angry and chronically anxious officer showing up to incredibly sensitive situations?

Legal terms. Murder 1 means you intend to kill. Murder 2 means you meant to harm and they died. Murder 3 means you preformed an act and didnt care if they died. Man slaughter means death was not the goal but it happened.
If you over charge a case they walk. And this would have been hard to argue murder 3. So they hit manslaughter but thats typically 2-5 years. They hit him with 20 fed time. That means no good time or time served. You do that whole 20 years. Murder 3 is typically 20-40 60% with time served.
What im saying is. They hit him really really hard. That was not a wrist slap.

Well on the other hand you gotta take this from his angle, he's a Swat Officer dealing with, what he understands as, an active homicide and hostage situation.
We, as viewers, know he's being swatted, he thinks that someone who just blew his own fathers brains out opened the door, made a motion with his hands and started screaming.
This is why Swatting is often considered attempted murder, because for all intents and purposes (as we just saw) that's what it is.
It's a rough situation, as he did kill a man but I also can't step into his shoes and say that in that moment, I would have done any differently. But I'm also not a trained swat officer, so its hard for me to say.

      @2.5in Bore Offset
      Very late response, apologies.
Upon further viewings, rewatching it multiple times and pondering. You are absolutely correct, not only did he have the dominant position he also had a few seconds where I saw the target before the target saw him.
He yelled, but the Officer did not announce himself and should have given him verbal commands once they established that sudden contact.
It was an unusual situation, but Swatting isn't new and has happened hundreds of times over the last decade. He should have known better.

Try to imagine it from the cop's side as well. For them, they are going to a murder + hostage situation that requires them to act quickly or it would be life or death. To add more things, these cops weren't even trained for a situation like this because it's something for SWAT team to handle but because they were led to believe that the matter is urgent and SWAT wasn't available that they had to send the law enforcement team available to them at that point.

So as far as the cop knew this innocent guy was fuckin nuts.
The innocent guy reached at his waist & was shot because the cop thought he was pulling the gun he thought he had out to kill him.
      This is tragic.
It's not the cop's fault he was tasked with dealing with this call...
There's laws in place that protect Police from information discovered afterwards that changes things.
It means NOTHING that the guy wasn't really a serial killer holding his family hostage. What the cop knew at that time is what MATTERS & he thought that guy was a murderer.
I can tell you as a cop this will haunt this cop for the rest of his life. He didn't want to shoot an innocent man & take his life.

  • @brannancloward

This is exactly why 911 callers should think before they call. Lives are endangered every time the police are called or involved at all. This exposes a weakness in our system that ANYONE can call 911 on somebody and they will respond, no questions asked. This has led to the police murdering citizens by the boatload and getting away with it. This needs to change. It is ridiculous that the officer was not found responsible. Somebody screaming should not cause somebody to discharge their weapon if they have any training or stability at all. These are our "professionals" at work. The fact that somebody can be justifiably killed for screaming is the real problem here.
