Thank you so much for watching - especially the entire video! I appreciate you saying you like my Hoyas and cabinets :) Thanks for the nice compliment ☺️
Love your videos. You let know that it's ok to restart hoyas. I've been chopping off roots, chopping and propagating hoyas, and all of them are growing better! Thanks for the tips. I also have tree fern fiber on order. I noticed whenever I up pot from Pon, they grow better when move to a chunky substrate instead of back in Pon. My 2025 goals, set up my Millsbo wide that's been in the box for almost a year, be selective on adding to my collection, and spend more time with the 200+ hoyas I'm growing. Some purging wouldn't hurt either! Happy hoyadays 2025!
That’s great to know your experience with Hoyas after they need a repot (and are in pon)! The last batch of repots I did used a chunkier mix. This time my coco husk was all fiber and no chunk 😅. I’d love to hear of your experiences using tree fern fiber! Since I have used it for several Hoyas successfully, I’m starting to put more Hoyas in it. I’m glad someone else is chopping and propping! Your goals sound positive. 200 Hoyas is a very large collection - I’m sure they keep you super busy!
To answer your questions: I had to restart 2 Hoyas last year and may have to do 1 more (so not many) (Im watching this video in parts) Im not sure if all these things that are now recommended for Hoyas are really needed. From what I have seen so far, Hoyas are quite vigorous in rooting (and they grow well and quite a few bloom without using such things). But maybe it will help for hard to root plants? Id love to test it someday… but it will have to wait until after the downsizing mission (so not this year😅).. probably growing several of the same plant from cuttings of the same motherplant and seeing if it makes a difference Yes, I have winter plant chores 😊. It freezes outside here, room temperature of course is still good and cabinets and growtents are relatively warmer (growlights emit warmth) Even most windowsill plants still grow… some a little less but some even more vigorous… So theres always (re)trellising and (some) repots. I also propagate year round, works just fine And of course watering, cleaning and changing the beneficial bug sachets Plant goals: - Get into the whole PH thing 👩🔬 - Try out orchid fertilizer for Hoyas in stead of a foliage one 🌸 - Trying out substrate mixes with tree fern fibre in stead of straight tree fern fibre (even though straight works well) - Downsize 20-25 species plus a one-in-on-out policy (if I buy one plant it will be 21-26)… I can make more space, but I don’t want to add more growlights 💡 - Don’t propagate unless it is for me or someone I know, start using the bin (I don’t care how rare or expensive the plant is/was anymore.. the selling of plants in my country is too much of a hassle, its not worth it) 🌱 - Stop rehabbing plants that don’t like my conditions. If I don’t enjoy it… or it doesn’t do well, it will leave the house (Alocasias, Aglaonema… very pretty but they don’t do well for me) 🪴🌱 Basically these last 3 goals are to enjoy more and reduce the “workload”
It sounds like you have a great setup and routine for your plants! I can definitely learn a thing or 2 there! You have some great plant goals. Some of our align perfectly! I’m steering clear of pon and more into organic substrate with some bark, coco chunks, and tree fern fiber as you are. I’m seeing how/if this takes my Hoyas to the next level!
@ Things can happen, right? With the tree fern in clear pots I can see easily when the plants need water (and when they don’t). I think growing in tree fern is part of why Im not rotting many roots. My care routine is usually that of a helicopter parent and theres seldom a plant that gets underwatered (and overwatering isn’t really a problem in tree fern with its airiness, in pots with drainage holes). What also helps is that my ambient humidity is usually above 60% (seldom under that) and of course in the cabinets and small tent its even higher, that means the substrate doesn’t dry out super fast. With your ambient conditions I’d need to water them a lot more frequently and theres also less room for error. So theres a lot that I learn from you when watching your videos, since your growing conditions are tougher 🩷 I like having overall goals… Plant specific goals may disappoint and I want to be happy with/about my plants no matter what they do. If I say “I want this Hoya to bloom this year” or “I want my monstera albo to get secondary fenestrations” or something like that… Ill be sad if the plants dont do it, while now, Im happy just looking at them 🪴🪴 Question for your Q&A: - how many hours a week do you spend on plantcare? - which Hoyas have bloomed for you, which are your favorite of the blooms in your care? Yes I migrated How many plants do you have left to repot/restart? I am happy that you found a good spot for everything (sometimes after repotting/retrellising its hard to put things back) Those new leaves on your Hoya latifolia outer variegated look so lovely! I will never do as many repots in a day as you did 😅 Maybe max 5 haha I like to keep chores in manageable chunks, things stay more fun that way Yes, watched to the end (but in parts)
The only mature Hoya that I’ve had to start over, and it was three times! is the New Guinea Ghost. It’s beautiful but what a pain. Unlike my other Hoyas, it doesn’t like my organic mix, so I’m trying pon for the cuttings I took. Fourth times a charm? My goal is to weed out down to more manageable and try to figure out more time saving methods. I had tried self watering with my Gesneriads with mixed success, and I’m reluctant to self water organic mixes for the Hoyas, but I would like to go on vacation some day. I’m using mostly artificial light, but the plant room is definitely cooler (60’s) in winter. Some plants have stalled, but not all. I just feed a little less since aroid mixes have no nutrients
NGG - I feel your pain. I can tell you mine is a bit floppy dehydrated after my roof trim, so I’m waiting to see if it will need a total reroot. I think a lot of people are paring down their collections this year. Idk if this would help you, but I found one of my biggest time saver is using a battery powered long arm watering can. They are a bit pricey, but they save sooo much time! Hint: remove the sprayer tip completely that way there is full burst of water out of the wand.
I do sell and ship my Hoyas! I have one hanhiae for sale, but I need to check on it in the prop box tomorrow before putting it on PalmStreet. I can also take a fresh cutting. My ID on PalmStreet is herrenfam, which is where I sell my Hoyas. You can DM me there as well. I sell occasionally on some Hoya facebook groups as well, but I haven’t been on fb much lately.
Great video, thank you for sharing your care process 💚
💚 Love these long repot,reboot.retrellis videos.💚
Thank you so much! I’m glad to know you like this type of video - I’ll definitely make more in the future 😊🍃
Love this long hoya chores video❤❤❤
Thank you so much! I appreciate it 😊
Great video Michelle and I watched it all. Your Hoyas are so beautiful. Love your cabinets. Thank you

I'm interested in your hanhiae how can I buy it ? do you sell only locally?

@herrenfam1 thank you for responding. I never bought plants on Palm Street. I will check it out
