The hammer makes an otherwise really good mini look goofy. I was thinking about buying it and slap something more sensible on top of the shaft. But why? By this time I've converted and painted 4 solid (in my opinion) IW praetors while waiting years for GW to release something like this.
I’m looking to get into HH and always checking out the releases while planning my future purchases. (BTW, I’m stuck between Iron Warriors, Death Guard, and Emperor’s Children. If anyone’s got pros and cons to help me pick, I’d really appreciate it-I’m a total noob to the system.) I like this model, but there are a few things that bug me. The hammer and bare head give off major Fallout 4 Brotherhood of Steel vibes, especially the hammer-it looks way too much like that super sledge with the rocket thing. Cool in Fallout, but kinda silly for Warhammer IMO. Also, what’s with all the slots and vents on armor lately? The shin guards especially would look so much better as solid plates instead of that weird triangular design. And is it just me, or is that hammer shaft way too thick? Honestly, I just don’t like the hammer at all. As for the helmet, it reminds me too much of the new Blood Angels helmets that look like Grey Knight helmets from 40k. I’d prefer something closer to the classic MK II with the metal faceplate studded in the front to better reflect the legion's iconography. Overall, it’s a good model, but it has the potential to be so much better with a few tweaks.
When I look at this and I look at the hammer, I don’t mind the design of the hammer. But then my eyes shift to the rest of the model and its like dear lord, the hammer head is the size of the torso of the terminator. I think if the hammer head was either proportionally shrunk by 50% or if instead of having 3 circle bits on the front, the hammer was cut off after the 1st circle it would look good.
I think I love this model as is. I am going to get both which will kick off my Horus Heresy journey. I can see what you mean with the hammer however I do like some over the top weapons.
I really don't care if the hammer looks a bit oversized. It's 95% good and I'm definitely buying it to lead my Iron Warriors. However, I really didn't like the quick photoshop of that dinky, tiny baby hammer. There's gotta be a middle ground between those that's just perfect.
Mine is scaled appropriately to the rest of the hammers in the game. BUT if you're looking at the long shaft and big terminator, you may just think it looks small when you think of a 1-handed hammer when comparing the shaft length. Either way mine is 100% better ;)
@ And you are entitled to your wrong opinion, as am I. ;) In all fairness though…I really hate that I can’t unsee how oversized the hammer is. But I can just deal with it.
I reckon it's a 10/10 if you replace the hammer. The armour is perfect I wouldn't change anything about it personally. Ornate enough to show that he's a leader but not flashy at all just brutal industrial vibes. I love that the hanging metal plates form chevron stripes just like their shoulder stripes that's a great detail. If they do make an IW praetor/warsmith in power armour I hope they give him a power claw arm like the old metal warsmith that would be so sick.
I think it's a great model tbh. Yes the hammer might be one to swap out, but so what - as you say the mini itself is a nice sculpt. In the aftermath of the recent appalling blood angels releases, this is at least slightly redeeming.
I think warhammers look cooler when their heads are smaller, like the real life ones. It also makes them more effective because more force is concentrated in a smaller area.
I'm gonna get a recast of it, and use it in my Iron Hands, for 40k, and switch the hammer with a different one, that I 3d printed. And there's nothing GW can do to stop me!
So, take an already existing cad file and 'just' change this bit and 'just' this other bit and 'just' scale it down so it's not the size of the entire terminator. WELL DONE. You successfully described exactly what the designer did. Guess that's why they pay YOU the big buck.🙃
If I got this miniature, I'd swap out that hammer head without a doubt. Didn't notice the studs you pointed out. I'd shave those off too. Otherwise. The only changes to the model I'd make a personal ones. Like give him a power or chainfist along with some wrist mounted bolter like the Grey Knights have. Otherwise. Things okay. Although I might not bother with the servo arm. Just to make packing easier. That and hide the banner marker saying "I like it entrenching, please shoot me with artillery."
I rate this model heavy. The hammer is stupid as hell but it reminds me of the grav hammer from halo which makes my inner child love it (although even those werent this damn big). Only one IW logo and its not massive, a new heresy models only complaint being the weapon being stupid is a big improvement. The trim looks great and the helmet/head look good. I almost forgot, NO TACTICAL ROCK I think what went wrong with the weapon is how damn big the handle is, they felt like they needed to put a stupidly massive hammer on it. The handle is like double the witch and length of basically every other hammer too
Sir, you're not being salty or needless negative for the sake of negativity. You're giving GW the honest kick up the arse it needs in order to do better.
I personally think that having one of the Iron Warriors specific grav weapons would have looked great this looks like a fallout super sledge, I would have preferred a smaller weapon or a more creative design for the hammer not a copied design.
Way i'd fix the hammer(a la pete the wargammer style) - cut handle in half, pin the bottom thing(boss/pommel)onto the end of new handle. Cut off the old hammer head, cut it again into 3 sections(top and bottom ones) just where they drew lines in it, carefully put it back together(so it looks trimmed), also cut the top and bottom "vent", or replace those with appropriate axe head(triangle or so), and put a better spike on top, and voila, you got yourself a handy siege halberd. The "ww2 tank head cover" could still work as part of the undersuit/soft seal/however they call the thing marines use as layer between their skin and outer armor plates. I draw my marines both with and without said head cover if unhelmeted.
Nah, I think it’s an amazing model, hammer included. If he was in standard power armour, I might agree that the hammer’s too big but he’s in cataphracti, the biggest and the beefiest terminator armour so I think a ginormous weapon that’s a bit ridiculous works when paired with the armour that’s ginormous and a bit ridiculous. I don’t think the hammerhead was a copy paste with bits added either. You wouldn’t say “ oh he’s got a similar looking combi-grav to another model so it’s clearly just a copy paste job”. No, it’s just the same type of weapon as another model, one the designer thought looked cool. There is also (while minor) clear differences in this models hammerhead and the picture you showed. Also, saying “other people would like the model regardless, so they should have made it the way I want instead” is a really bad argument and also just not true. Having the hammerhead be this big is definitely polarising, but having it be the size in your proposed design is bad in a different way. There would be less anger about the model (probably) but there would also be far less of a draw to it. I personally don’t think it would be such a great model without his radiator on a stick and others who love the hammer would probably agree. There have been parts of models that you personally love that others have found too outlandish and ridiculous and there will be more in the future. People have opinions and that’s fine. If the reaction to this model was pretty universal hatred, then you might be right in saying it’s objectively bad. But that isn’t the reaction. Some people love it, some hate it and some think it’s just ok. So saying it’s objectively bad, just can’t be true then. Tldr: some like big hammer. Some don’t. Some would like small hammer. Some wouldn’t.
It legit worries me how far down the anime/looter shooter grossly proportioned rabbit hole we have fallen. You are literally voting for a weapon multiple times larger than the Primarch's Strength 12 hammer, a weapon as large as the terminator's entire torso.
I love the hammer, reminds me of older heroic scale weapons. Plus it’s a siege weapon so being scaled up makes sense, imagine the terminator striding forward and smashing it into a bunker wall. Your version looks terrible imo lmao. Terminators are frequently described as wielding oversized weapons compared to regular marines.
Swing your torso sized hammer at someone in Warcraft not in heresy. This thing is twice the size of the primarch's weapon. What's it like living through life with such bad takes?
@@joshwenn989nah just sick of dealing with bad taste. I literally cannot fathom anyone liking it, I think it jumped the shark that much. Normally I’m like “I can see why some would like this” but in this case it’s as dumb as terminator armour back flipping Gabriel Angelos in Dawn of War 3.
I think the extra little skull on the belt buckle is a bit much, and if that hammer doesn't get unique stats that let it love tap knights, it's definitely too big. However, he is a handsome boy and I need two.
Graviton Crusher: S+2 unwieldy 2 handed and Haywire. So exactly the same effect as the (also no model yet) graviton mace on a Knight, lacking the strength bonus, unwieldy and 2-handed.
Yeah it's too big. Not sure why you think it being similar to the thanatars fist is somehow a slam dunk for you perspective or even a negative. They can use different looking grav weapon's, they're in a huge galaxy with different supply lines.
I thought the very same thing when I first saw it, too. I think they should take the top third of the hammer off. Instead of 3 grav, only have two, and I think it would look soooo much better. Almost everything else about that model is near perfect, EXCEPT the hammer 😅
It's him, John Warhammer 😂 Personally I like it, but I would convert it to take advantage of the servo arm. I'd have it handing the weapon to him like he's just spotted a worthy opponent.
Only thing that i would convert on it is capable switching to Power Fist and the hammer, so could utilise in both HH and 40k. unhelmeted face gives me Ron Swanson look with that mustache
As a 40k IW player, my first thought was "Nice! GW remembered us! I want this as a Lord! I mean, the hammer has obviously got to go, and maybe the gun, but the rest of the mini is amazing!"
I quite like it, hammer and all, what I detest will be the price, had it been £35 - £40 for a blister of three to four minis with options, then I would've felt I would've got my money's worth, but £35+ for a single mini? Having a giggle, aren't you... I'm going to wait for my recaster on this one, and get through my back catalogue.

I made a very similar hammer years ago for a dreadnought conversion using ammo boxes and bits 😂 ....it's looks good on a dreadnought because it's in scale , I completely agree way to over the top even for 30/40k , it's a silly hammer head .
I really don't like the HH 2.0 trend of MMO-scale oversized weapons. I definitely would've cut the graviton hammer head down by 33-50%, but other than that, I think these are great (Warhammer World exclusive aside). I agree that they're not cluttered too, I actually think they showed a lot of restraint with the armour, while keeping it in line with Peter Turbo's. The paint job on the bare head's eh though. It looks like they shaded the forehead wrinkles as dark as the undersides of the cheekbones, so he looks like a Genestealer Cultist. They should be a lot lighter, since they're shallow and high up on the face. But even a lot of better painters make that mistake, and it's just paint, not the sculpt, so no big deal.

When I get this, I'm putting on a halo gravity hammer head straight off my 3d printer.
The hammer's too big but I'm glad we finally have a gravaton weapon for marines. (But yes, too big,)
It’s a giant waffle iron.
Those Iron Warriors have to warm up, their field rations somehow!
We need more guys with power lances please
This counts as at least half of the 30,000 warhammers. . .
It looks like an overwatch weapon
That scaled down version looks so much nicer
If I got this miniature, I'd swap out that hammer head without a doubt. Didn't notice the studs you pointed out. I'd shave those off too. Otherwise. The only changes to the model I'd make a personal ones. Like give him a power or chainfist along with some wrist mounted bolter like the Grey Knights have. Otherwise. Things okay. Although I might not bother with the servo arm. Just to make packing easier. That and hide the banner marker saying "I like it entrenching, please shoot me with artillery."
The hammer is about the same size as the axe on your Autek Mor model
if they scaled the hammer down just a bit i'd say it was perfect, like from three 'barrels' down to two.
I almost forgot, NO TACTICAL ROCK
I think what went wrong with the weapon is how damn big the handle is, they felt like they needed to put a stupidly massive hammer on it. The handle is like double the witch and length of basically every other hammer too
I love the hammer! Its ridiculous but also just CHUNK
He would look about 20% better with the siege breaker consoles hammer
Sir, you're not being salty or needless negative for the sake of negativity. You're giving GW the honest kick up the arse it needs in order to do better.
I personally think that having one of the Iron Warriors specific grav weapons would have looked great this looks like a fallout super sledge, I would have preferred a smaller weapon or a more creative design for the hammer not a copied design.
I liked the Hammer until you and others in the comments brought up proportions. You're right.
Overall i give this model a 9.8/10🔥
Way i'd fix the hammer(a la pete the wargammer style) - cut handle in half, pin the bottom thing(boss/pommel)onto the end of new handle.
@@TheOuterCircleyou’re grasping at straws man.
@@lewiscampbell8683I don’t think so, at least 65% of responders on the poll don’t like it for that very reason.
i think the mini looks super awesome but im probably converting that to a thunder hammer anyways cuz i dont like grav hammer
the hammer looks something a cosplayer made for comiccon Spot On Video
GW: People sure like kitbashing our models. You know, Iron warriors inparticular seem to love kitbashing, lets give them kitbashed Warsmith.
@@TheOuterCircle Someone woke up on the wrong side of bed this morning. 😂
So if you squint and turn your head and jump up and down on one foot that hammer looks good.
Its a Monster Hunter sized Hammer for a Iron Warriros Terminator fighting with a Monster Hunter moveset.
(The monster is insecuirities.)
That's it, I'm getting me mallet.
Yeah it's too big. Not sure why you think it being similar to the thanatars fist is somehow a slam dunk for you perspective or even a negative. They can use different looking grav weapon's, they're in a huge galaxy with different supply lines.
That was my first thought when I saw this picture OC man it would suck to have to kit bash that hammer into an ax or something that looks good lol
I agree on the mini, but the Sopranos end was pitch perfect ;)
I thought the very same thing when I first saw it, too. I think they should take the top third of the hammer off. Instead of 3 grav, only have two, and I think it would look soooo much better. Almost everything else about that model is near perfect, EXCEPT the hammer 😅
I love how the skull is smiling in ^^ way. Very heresy, muh grimdark.
You could say the Warsmith has a Warhammer 30,000
At least it doesn't have a tactical rock, the hammer head is crap, though. Only thing I like is the servo-arm.
It's him, John Warhammer 😂
Personally I like it, but I would convert it to take advantage of the servo arm. I'd have it handing the weapon to him like he's just spotted a worthy opponent.
Only thing that i would convert on it is capable switching to Power Fist and the hammer, so could utilise in both HH and 40k.
unhelmeted face gives me Ron Swanson look with that mustache
love the model... hate the hammer... waaay to big.... said so on warhammer on fb... they removed my coment
As a 40k IW player, my first thought was "Nice! GW remembered us! I want this as a Lord! I mean, the hammer has obviously got to go, and maybe the gun, but the rest of the mini is amazing!"
95% of the model is fine- macabre
Me looking at model: you mean 85%
(The rest is the hammer)
I like the design of the hammer. If the head was half or maybe a third the size and shaft was shorter it'd be great
I quite like it, hammer and all, what I detest will be the price, had it been £35 - £40 for a blister of three to four minis with options, then I would've felt I would've got my money's worth, but £35+ for a single mini? Having a giggle, aren't you...
I'm going to wait for my recaster on this one, and get through my back catalogue.
Thought it was the first good model to come out of the HH series in a long time
I think the shaft is also way to thick, it bothers me that he can't get his hand around the bloody thing.
"I cherry picked through the comments"....yeap....you deleted mine even through it was supportive.
I never delete comments, even those that disagree with me. But, put the wrong thing in and TH-cam automatically hides them.
@@TheOuterCircle my comments on the eldar video disappeared....must be the algorithm. Apologies.
There are sadly a HUGE number of words that get flagged.
Everyday words that I cannot post. If I say them about a person, I get a warning for "hatespeach" whatever that is.
I kid you not man the most ridiculous things get flagged. It's a huge gamble posting anything anymore. YT has become a cesspool of censorship and there's not much the creators can do about it.
You have every right to be unhappy, you're a paying customer. When rivet counters question my paint jobs i simply tell them "you buy me the models and I'll paint them your way"
I made a very similar hammer years ago for a dreadnought conversion using ammo boxes and bits 😂 ....it's looks good on a dreadnought because it's in scale , I completely agree way to over the top even for 30/40k , it's a silly hammer head .
But even a lot of better painters make that mistake, and it's just paint, not the sculpt, so no big deal.
i really like the big fuckoff hammer but yeah i would argue it does need an alternate option for the hammer head
