Try Planting just 2 random "sacrifice" plants out in front of the base in the center near the ramp sensors. Maybe by having just 2 plants Front and Center, will act as a measure to guarantee Raids will come in from the center. But you will have to sacrifice 2 plants every high level raid as they will be out in the open for the bots to destroy. But at least you'll know they will come from front center. Will be a cool experiment to try. Like so he can see!!!

Moses LMPS I hade a similiar idea a million videos ago, but my technique wouldn’t be sacrafices, they would be under the catapults (three of them) and then they would be priorities and they would get flung, combine our ideas, except but yours in a tier 3 metal box, and for bosses, warehouse keys, and then no sacrafices!

give hank a gun. im sure in hank's ability to kill one boss atleast
and on a serious note: i don't know if this works but try to make a dummy/bait farm. make a 3*3 farm and maybe the boss bots target the small farm first. Also, do water turrets work on boss bots? because if they do maybe you can make sensors and water turrets so they get knocked automatically and then u can spuddle them. 3rd idea- why not make some temporary mines? one explosive can kill one boss. or maybe make a turret that shoots one explosive canister. it wud be hard to reload but, one boss can be long ranged( ik scrap mechanic is inconsistant so it would be hard but you can try).
Edit: Try making the tires the bigger ones, idea from @Crash 354 from the comments of this comment.
the bridge was being destroyed by boss running over it. and the boss bots might launch farther back now from the wheels because now the catapults are gone, i think they were hitting the catapults and stopping.
    thats all i got

Add a warehouse key on critical raid components like one on the engine and one on any sensor or button even if it takes more space it means those parts are less likely to be hit by a boss. Drawbridge parts could use one too. Don't want a tapebot hitting the wrong place like the piston and giving all the other bots acces

    Boss traps ideas:
    A) Explosion proof material. Maybe metal 3. Will be very expensive.
    B) Death far from the trap: wheel traps, catapults, turrets. (Fall damage / range damage).
    C) Corpse disposal via wheel traps or catapults. Basically when the boss dies you need to yeet it's corpse out. Seems inefficient.

@@toast0mlg355 I use auto turrets in my base wall. They are non spinning so I have 16 mounted spudguns spaced out in a line. To protect them I built a Metal 3 wall around them and in front of them so the guns and sensors are 4 blocks recessed into the wall. The big red farm bots get right up to the wall and swing and do a little damage to the metal 3 wall, but all the while they are getting blasted from the guns. The guns and sensors are also safe from the explosions since they are just of reach. I just sit back and shoot the tape bots. It is very effective but was very expensive to make, and Scrapman would have to redesign the whole front of his base. So yes expensive, but if done right, not useless.

    • @MrScorpianwarrior
      @MrScorpianwarrior 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Based on my rough estimates, his base is around about 120 blocks wide. Each warehouse key is two block wide and two blocks tall, so you would need about 60 warehouse keys for one layer, and you would need 4 warehouse keys tall to stop bots from going over it. This means you would need _at least_ (you would need more for the edges where the island widens out) 240 warehouse keys.
If you assume that you could find 6 bosses per in-game day (24 minutes) , it would take you a total of *16 hours* to find all of the keys you needed.
Considering he already has about 60 now he would still need to get 180, spending at least *12 hours* on it.
These are all very rough estimates, and I don't think you could consistently find 6 bosses a day, especially due to their slow respawn rate, but yeah.
That being said, it would be really cool to see a wall of warehouse keys

Dont leave the loose bot pieces in front of your wheels defense, because it was blocking the way for the bots to be flung back. This way if the Boss Bots get flung back they explode further away from your base. The vertical standing farm bot arms right in front of your ramps are in the way for sure.

Haven't seen anyone point this out yet, but both of the bosses that blew up the ramps were in front of the scrap spines. You can see them hit the spines, rag doll when they die, and roll back to the ramp. I honestly think since you cleared the area in front of the tire trap that you shouldn't have a problem with the bosses blowing up your base.

Sort enemies and deal with them differently
    1. Move the spinning wheels a little bit more away from the castle wall.
    2. Hide them in the floor. One block lower than now, but set them on the pistons so the whole axle shut up at least two blocks (possibly three will work better) when triggered.
    3. Change the spinning direction so it will shut bots up.
    4. Connect the whole spinning wheels system to sensors attached at such height that only Big Red Bot trigger them.
This will allow Heybots and Greenes to come to the bouncy floor but keep the Big Red guys away by shutting them up in the air and take fall damage away from your wall and possibly away from your ramps.

Hi everybody, I just started playing Scrap Mechanic, really enjoying it so far. I ended up building my base on the roof of the mechanic station with a retractable elevator to bring me up and down, the robots can't destroy an "in-game" building so very little resources are needed for defense. I also found a tiny island about a minute swim away that has a small patch of earth on it that's suitable for farming, the haybots cannot spawn in the water and the totebots almost never are able to climb the sides, because it's far enough away from my base the raids never actually happen at all because I harvest before the raid occurs and then leave the area. Currently I'm working on building a long monorail to bring me most of the way out there across the water. Sometimes the best defense is not having to defend in the first place.

one thing that might help with the tape bots is if the merlons of your crenelations were a bit taller. they aren't quite giving you full cover at their current hight. (for those not familiar with castle terminology, the crenelations are the pegs and gaps at the top of the castle wall, consisting of the merlons (which are the pegs) and the crenels (the gaps between the merlons). the idea is that you have full visibility of the enemies and are able to shoot them through the crenels, and you have full cover behind the merlons.

What my friends and I have learned from this is: If you wanna do a max-level raid, line up at least three people to be online to fend off the attack.
Also, if you want to protect the more expensive components of those traps, like the engine, use the lift glitch to put the engine underground and then link it to a gas container above for refueling.

    Ho man, so much damage.
    Boss defense idea: Sweeper!
So the idea is basically to take the wheel line you already made and detach it. Put it on some pistons or something similar to: make it go up, extend, go down then sweep back while rolling the wheels (or roll only on detection) thus launching enemies away from the base.
The possible issues/challenges I see with this are making sure it can't be broken, possible lag and making it fast enough so bosses can't get to the ramp before they are swept.

So a few ideas for defense:
    1. You could have a outer wall and its only job would be slowing down the incoming raid
    2. An automated gun system to shoot bots before they get too close
    3. Thicker concrete walls that can take more hits before you have to worry about a breach.
    4. Possibly better tape bot defense, idk what that would involve but it is something to consider as they're the biggest threat next to bosses

3 things. 1 make a bigger gap between the wheels and metal so when they explode they dont break the ramps. 2 make the crenellations bigger so the tape bots cant hit you as easy and to block more of your base from them. 3 make a wall on the back of your ramparts so the tapebots cant shoot the rest of your base.

    1) Raise the crenellations on your castle wall so that they are above your head and narrow the gap in between them. Probably use a higher level material or 2 block thickness. You're right that the tape bots are your biggest danger at the start of the raid and you need to defend against them better.
    2) The bouncy floor is still way better than the tire wall. You should just make another row of it in front of the base. Also, you really need to stop the bosses BEFORE they reach your base because unless you get lucky again and shoot one into the water he is going to wreck your base when they blow up or your expensive traps. The bouncy floor is relatively cheap compared to the tire wall. I'd go with that.
    3) Turrets. They're pretty cheap to make and all of the expensive parts except for the sensors can be hidden far away from the turret itself. Just slap a saw blade on top of each one to deter bots from attacking them.
Your biggest problem is going to be "What do you do with a boss that is ragdolled on your base wall?" because unless you move him and THEN kill him he is going to wreck a ton of your stuff.

put some random things on their way to slow them down, just some random metal things.
if you are feeling fancy since they attack your cars, some free-floating defences might be high-priority enough. So you might be able to even do Czech hedgehogs that are angled on the ground and don't look like bootleg crosses.

A simple way would be converting all the front into a bouncing floor trap made of tier 3 metal and set the speed to half or more to damage the bots.
Make it taller by one block and divide in sections to deal with the weight.
Also will need a ton of tier 3 metal to make a fence-like wall behind the concrete to prevent the explosions to grant access to the inner base.

I think Kan did an experiment of this before.
All he did was start planning his crops in the middle and the bots seem to be centered around the middle more than the side.
So i think the position of the first crop you planned is gonna be the target for the bots.
Try planning in the middle instead of the side.

Maybe you could put a wall of explosives that are high enough that the other bots can pass underneath but the boss bots have to destroy to get through. You would have to make sure the explosives are far enough away from each other to not cause a chain reaction and maybe protected from direct fire from tape bots.
BTW the boss steps do damage to 4 durability or lower items. So 5 and above they can walk on without damaging.

@ScrapMan I personally think you should leave everything as is at the end of this video. Test it again for the boss raids. The reason why the red guys exploded right next to the base, was because the catapults were stopping them from flying further away. They were locked in that tiny area, because they hit the catapults, so the explosions were stuck right at the front of your base.

Put a second motor tire wall on the underside of your castle crenelations and reverse the lower wheel directions. the bottom one will shoot them up. the new top one can do what the current bottom one does and fire directly away dropping them off a longer ways away from the bottom of your base. TO BE CLEAR: a 2 part wheel trap where the bots walk up to the bottom trap and get fired into a second trap with more elevation to shoot them off into that field you just opened up.

Theres a ton of comments now so, might not see this. However, I would move the warehouse ramps, and wheel traps, essentially swapping positions, and put the wheel traps on pistons, so when the robots run up, the pistons shoot the wheels out before they can swing on the wheels. If you do the sensors at a 10 block radius, that should allow them to land far enough away from your walls to not take damage. And if something happens and they make it past the wheels, the ramps are still there for the bounce floor.

Idea: how about you paint your Parking Area a little up? So that every vehicle has an own wideness customised spot to park in. Also a red square in the middle under your load/unload area for style points.
A thing I would think of making your castle more save would be rebuild the castle made of t3 metal (I mean... haybots and greennies would not be able to do any damage to it) and add spuddling gun torrents to the towers or anywhere else so that you can whipe out the bosses with the same gun you have on your scout vehicle. (May you paint up all of your vehicles?)
Thanks for all of your Videos, you're an inspiration for me (I'll get the game in September and I'm already planning about where to make my own bases). Greetings from a 33 years old German 😎

I think that the next step for your defenses is auto turrets and a spud machine gun turret possibly splitting up the wheel launch wall across multiple engines. The only other thing I can think of is somehow making sure the bosses are launched up and back, that way if the system does kill them, they aren't as close to it when they die, maybe have a second set of wheels at about boss bot head height,

hey scrapman, i just realize that you're bouncy castle is making a pathway to you're vertical wall. so if you're horizontal wall is damaged by the explosion it will make a pathway to the other bots. because you made the front castle elevated and it effects your vertical wall. making the bots walk on top of it.. so making it short, you only have defence trap and no strong walls

So I’ve tested the boss explosion and they do a 5X5 area so here are my tips on defense. I would recommend turrets that take out your tape bots because there 1 hit and maybe line then with warehouse keys to help defend them. For your bosses my idea would be to add a strong pusher that pushes your boss bots away when they die even though it,ll remove the holes at the bottom but when you kill them you click a switch that flings them away from your base preventing your base from getting a 5X5 hole.

  • @lostson233

a few things i thought of:
in place of your throwing traps, maybe some 3x3 or 4x4 pillboxes with explosives inside. i don't know if bots would be drawn to them because they're in front of your base, or if they'd avoid them like tapebots. i'm imagining some sort of internal sensor that after a certain amount of damage to the surrounding blocks, sets off the bomb? or i guess that would happen anyway with enough damage
i'm also imagining a combination of your old cage trailer built into the floor. if your ramps were moved WAY forward, and a T3 metal 'floor' extended to meet them, some sort of barrier could come out of that floor which would stop/delay bosses, but not the other bots. higher sensors? i can't imagine either of these would help with Lag though.
as always, love the videos. i don't have nearly the amount of patience to build in survival like you do, but i love to see what you come up with. Your video has earned my subscription.

Death bags are indestructible and can be welded in more positions than the warehouse keys. You should probs get some trustworthy volunteers who won’t be on your world often to donate their death bags so you don’t have a massive wall of death markers constantly on your map. You wouldn’t even need traps, eventually the bots walk away and de-spawn if they can’t destroy your farm.

I wonder if you attached a spud gun on the side of the Bouncing Floor, that gets triggered by a sensors, on a timer, lets say it takes you more than 15 seconds to clear the pile of bots bouncing, the spud gun will activate after 10 to 15 seconds, to essentially kill all the bots on the bouncy floor that causes LAG. This will sort of act as an automated LAG defender mechanism, so you can focus on constantly shooting the BOSSES! BOOM! NEXT PROBLEM!

Maybe make a launch wall where the catapults were and/or make a wheel pad that angles up when something is on it, so it launches them back (This would be more of a test invention). Another idea would be to have some rows of wheels where the boss bots would get launched and have it where those wheels launch them back (experimental). Also some mounted turrets/guns could help, especialy with clearing the jump pad of bots to stop lag or dealing damage from far away.

Wow. There was a lot more damage than I expected, but you handled it really well, lag and all. Here's a thought... Maybe take out the bosses with explosives? Like maybe have either a few small explosives here and there at a safe distance from your base that they would run into or maybe large explosives set up in strategic areas. As long as you can get the explosives to the boss at a safe distance from your castle, it should at least give you enough time to shoot them to death... The only problem with that idea is the resource gathering, but that shouldn't be too grindy, especially with your glowbug farm.

You can remove the ramps and put the wheel trap further forward, you're bouncy floor might be completely impractical for boss fights because they get too close to your walls and the controllers and pistons that operate the traps. Also you need to have more than one control system for the tires if you lose one section the rest wont fail with it. The tapebot problem would require remote tier 3 "bunkers" with a sensor on a mounted spudgun or triple rotary gun ect. The tapebot would hopefully target the bunker and be killed by the well protected guns or you would have time to leisurely take aim without being domed by a tape shot
