Another great video! Well done! This has been very helpful, especially with finding my Waffen ampts on my K98 scabbard. I have found that it's almost impossible to find any scabbards, even repros from China. I brought a 1937-40 production bayonet made by Paul Weyserburg but it was missing the scabbard, release button and grips and was originally saw backed but had the saw back cut off and it was in semi-relic condition. It cost me £5. I managed to get the grips for about £7 but couldn't find a scabbard for sale anywhere. I finally had to get a repro one with a frog from the US and it cost about £24 and £8 postage along with £11 import tax. I then went to a Militaria fair and found an original but without visible markings apart from a circle on the big that attaches it to the frog for £12. I managed to get another from Stoneliegh Militaria for £20. Whenever I see one I'm gonna pick it up if it's not expensive just incase I get off find another bayonet without scabbard.

true..i have also seen the repro scabbards selling seperately...the good thing is tho all the repro bayonets have the same serial number, not different ones like originals.
Hey, i just saw a video with a guy finding a ss bayonet (ground dug). Well the frog is stamped ss. Should be found if you type in ''ss bayonet found''. Like to hear your reaction.
Super cool! I'm really happy cuz I recently got one of these. It's my first bayonet. When you said everyone got these, would people who didn't have k98s get them? Or just people with k98s? Also the blade of my bayonet has 2 numbers one on each side. Which side is the serial number? One has some letters in it and the other is just numbers. Is the one with only numbers the serial number?
@@lennartproost Depending on the year range some would be S coded like S/410 others have the manufacturer name and later in the war it was year coded with a 3 letter code like 44ASW.
When it comes to k98 bayonets it's difficult to say.....in the 1970s these were so cheap ,dealers bought huge quantities and put bogus engravings on the blade and offered them as genuine wartime period presentation pieces.....this is still happening today with bogus etched k98 bayonets coming onto the collector market from Poland.....and it's the same with chrome plated examples........most chrome plated and regimentally etched k98 bayonets on the market today are genuine k98 bayonets but have been enhanced postwar with chrome plating and etchings after ww2 for commercial gain.

Completely false saying if they have matching numbers, they were never issued. They were manufacturing these all through the war. They didn't have the overstock of supplies to just "not issue them". I agree a lot of 44 dated sets weren't issued but saying that bayonets manufactured in 34-43 that match weren't issued is completely false.
You say that you don't know the universal number stamped on all of the Chinese made knockoff scabbards. It possibly could be SWI 1939 N25048K as reported by this guy selling his "not made in India" reproduction scabbards: www.atthefrontshop.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=gwak98bayo .

once upon a time they were very cheap...I knew someone who had over 200..all different maker marks!!

Are the bayonets supposed to have a hole down the handle meant for taking the cleaning rod?
some do, its so one can poke the end of the clearing rod into in order to clean out debris which could foul the operation of the push button

I'm trying to remove my frog but I cant get it and I don't want to break it
its because the leather has shrunk over the years, in this case its best not to attempt to remove it, as it will damage the piece.
I have a bayonet like this but the non sharp side of the blade is black but the sharp side is silver. Can anyone tell me why this is?

the early ww2 k98 bayonet had a wooden handle didn't it?
some did, but wooden grips can be found on bayonets dated as late as 1944,same with plastic handles,all down to whatever the maker had in stock.

I got one for sale
