I like the rain. Because I don't have to move it like snow. And show gets to visit me at least once a year.. LoL Glad the weather is warming up for you.
Sledge and cant hook is the 1-2 punch! oh and in case anyone cares, major shortage of materials and parts for 390xp’s and 395xp’s right about now, was waiting 3 months for delivery on the 390, so, cancelled that and picked up the 572xp w 28” bar at the local shop... holy buckets that’s a sweet machine!
Cutting into the dirt is fun Chris! Especially when you do it in the first five minutes in the woods. Makes the rest of the days work much more enjoyable!
Chris, Whether you know that or not and I am sure you do, you did a A Smart Safety drill by making Secure footing for your feet. at the start. My friend was working with his Chop Saw and had poor footing. With the blade still turning , his feet slipped and he put out his left hand to catch him self from falling Result: All fingers on his hand were cut off. It happened in a heart beat.
@@deerdud6009 Hi DeerDud - Big Rodders again. I was called in to split a 37 inch diameter Beech tree that had been dropped in a small garden. Beech is a straight grained but explosive species to split. Uncertain what volume I processed but I reckon around 1.5 cords in very small sizes by American standards. However, I went home and lay down in a darkened room awhile to recover and am still alive and ready to kick again!! I'm meant to be an Auld Retired Codger but I've never worked as hard in my life.
Finally some nicer weather, the cold was one thing, but cant cut with sawdust blowing in your face. It's amazing what you can find in wood, I've found soda pop cans and rocks!
Yesterday was all about smells in my Woodyard. I put in some hickory in my stove. When I got outside it smelled like a fine pipe tobacco nice and sweet. Then the white oak smelled sweet. I got into a red oak that smelled fermented like silage. It was dead and real wet. The honey bees were all around the fresh split wood.
Nice days work there Chris! Any movement on the tractor?? I’ve been playing around with different ways to buck up logs off the ground in my latest videos but you can’t beat the simplicity of the Cant hook! KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid!!!!
Good afternoon Chris! Just got home from work. Watched your vid now I’m going out to split some oak. I’m trying to get a bigger woodyard than you🤣 Thanks for another good one! GNI
Pretty nice wood Chris...a lot of its barkless. Shouldn't need much drying time. Are you ready to put your beaver traps into operation? Unfortunately there isn't much of a fur market now!
Yes that is why I buy the barkless stuff it drys in a year bark on 1 1/2-2 years. Beaver trapping will start in a few weeks in northern Wisconsin, as soon as it thaws!
The music played at 7:40 has a chilling and calming affect. Whereas, the bluegrass music often used has a "get it done" affect. How do you choose when to use what music :)
What is the mechanism for the lever resetting to neutral on the automatic ram retraction? Could that location be moved up a lot? I'm going to check that out for my own splitter. I now see the time involved with the ram going back and having to return for the 16-18" normal lengths we all use. See ya at the next dawn.
Good Morning Sir!! I took uour advise and retrieved all the oak and cherry. At what percentage to do consider dry enough to sell??? Thanks for your advise
Chris, Those big mounds of dirt that you have to stack around, why don't you have a machine come in when there exposed and eliminate them? That way you will have more room to stack wood efficiently. If you need anymore help spending your money let me know, I have lots of ideas.
I chipped a piece of firewood with a maul out of frozen ground came up wacked right in the nose and broke it.Had a couple of black eyes for a week and my nose swelled a bit
@@InTheWoodyard so looking at what you split today, it looks similar to what I have. Maybe it's not too bad after all. Sorry don't have much experience. Thanks for the help. Love the videos. My kids love the woodchuck soundbite
The legs will go to their heads, pretty soon they won’t want to do any work in the wood yard, then they’ll want to go to acting school... keep em humble I’d say
Nice lookin day there Chris. I was gunna ask at some point if you split small 3”, 4” rounds and I see in this video that you do. Would there be much dirt on that runner you pulled up with the cant hook ? Do you brush the dirt off, before cutting or not bother. I guess you don’t, I see you that in the video.
Okay you need to change up your music just a bit, something a little more heaver, you always talk about offspring. For me it’s ozzy, JP, kiss stuff like that lol 😎
@@InTheWoodyard well I am 52 and still rocking out to all the new stuff like 5 finger, Volbeat. theory of a deadman, but the best has to be the 80’s hair bands hands down

You got that right! The sun felt great today too!!
That's a really good days work!! Nice for cookie and woody to make an appearance!! Stay safe!!

👍 Fine looking firewood Chris
Thanks Tony!

Glad you enjoyed it Keith!

Man you're gonna have to have a stacking party in the spring.
Yes! And I just got 2 more truck loads!
Morning Chris. Another productive morning. 👍

Wow! Do you have pictures or could you get some, I want to do a safety video soon.
For a second I thought your can’t hook couldn’t hook but in the end you proved it could hook.
Some of the big logs it does struggle, or it's just the operator!
Cookie and Woody now look like "seasoned" veterans.
Yes, they are!
Awesome vid that day Chris! 🔥💯👍. See you soon! Andrew from NB :)
Thanks!!!
A CANT hook with a log jack is essential equipment. All the other guys are crazy about cutting into dirt and rock, they love it
It is one of the best tools I have for cutting especially in the log piles!
That’s a nice cant hook. Cuttin with the screamers . Nice Chris
Yes it is a great tool!
Hi Chris - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. Your pile of split logs makes my recent effort look like a wheelbarrow full!
Hi Big Rodders ain't that the truth I cut down one tree yesterday maybe got 25 rounds was tired and drenched in sweat. Then there's Chris.lol

There’s nothing you CAN’T do with a CANT hook and the right attitude. 🙌🏼
It amazes me how many of the guys on these channels don't use one. They're absolutely in love with cutting into dirt and rocks
They work great and the Woodchuck holds the logs up off the ground for cutting nice!
They like to sharpen chain!
@@InTheWoodyard i have still brand which actually Logrite with the stand. Man they love sharpening

Maybe not perfect but thanks.
Thanks for the video Chris, I gotta go cut some firewood now.
Yes you do, get to it!
Love me some Red Oak!!! Awesome setup!!!
Yes, other than the smell it is easy to split and sell!
Saw today Mister Eastonmade made a bigger pushblock for your Ultra
Yes, I am looking forward to wearing the paint off of it!

I just got a bunch of new music and I thought I would change it up a bit , banjo music might make some people paddle faster! (Deliverance)

Yes I think it could be adjusted for a shorter stroke.

Thanks Mr. Haas!
Honest question. What's better the mount or the meat?
Yes. The meat is delicious but the mounts last longer and remind me of the hunt. Also, the deer big enough to mount always have more meat.
Good Morning Sir!! I took uour advise and retrieved all the oak and cherry. At what percentage to do consider dry enough to sell??? Thanks for your advise
Good stuff oak and cherry. The oak will take much longer to dry by 2x cherry drys faster. 20% or less for all wood is about right.
Chris, Those big mounds of dirt that you have to stack around, why don't you have a machine come in when there exposed and eliminate them? That way you will have more room to stack wood efficiently. If you need anymore help spending your money let me know, I have lots of ideas.
Ya, someday I will get rid of them! I get lots of suggestions!
does having three zip ties on the saw make measuring three times as accurate?
HA! I use two now because they do break off once in a while especially when cutting in the log piles.
I chipped a piece of firewood with a maul out of frozen ground came up wacked right in the nose and broke it.Had a couple of black eyes for a week and my nose swelled a bit
Yes, the wood yard is a dangerous place!
Which saw do you like better 572 or 576
Which ever one is the sharpest!
That last stringer you cut up at 25:01, I noticed the edge of the round was a different color. Is that considered punky or why is it like that?
Yes it was punky , that happens to oak sometimes on the dead trees.
@@InTheWoodyard so looking at what you split today, it looks similar to what I have. Maybe it's not too bad after all. Sorry don't have much experience. Thanks for the help. Love the videos. My kids love the woodchuck soundbite
I have an idea, how about having those scary wood faces made into a table by doing a resin pour around them.
The legs will go to their heads, pretty soon they won’t want to do any work in the wood yard, then they’ll want to go to acting school... keep em humble I’d say
Yes a few others suggested that too!
HA!
What do you put on the hydraulic arm? Chain lube?
On the push plate rail I use waste oil.
Have you still to stack the big pile of split wood next to the house ??
I now have three piles to stack so far!
Looks like your muffler is rattling off, but maybe it just vibrates and looks like it on camera :D
Yes, it just a piece of metal that the screws don't tighten all the way down on, I am afraid they will snap off!
