I'm with you. I just 'found' her and am only saddened because I could have been enjoying her for decades. I gave up long ago looking for real country. It has all become so marketed and formulaic. She is a breath of fresh air. She is belongs to the 'outlaws' like Waylon, Jerry Jeff, and Willie. Damn, she's fine.

I came for the album cover. The Bottom Line in the village was one of my favorite spots to see live music as kid growing up in NYC. I even got to play there a couple of times. It’s part of a NYC that’s mostly disappeared, but I can sniff a faint whiff of it on the air rounding certain corners, and I can hear echoes of it in tracks like this.

Thanks Moppet. Yes, more blues please. I think the reason she is under the radar - so to speak - is because she defies classification. If I had to pick one I would say it IS the blues. I think she is way beyond country, maybe Patsy Cline was her equal but I don't think Patsy wrote a lot of her own songs. I could be wrong on that. Very few compare favorably with her. Joni Mitchell is the only one I can think of as a writer and singer.

After all these years, this song still makes me laugh. The passage from 3:40 to 4:20 is a crescendo of invective that shattered every convention of pop music. "I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes" Um, that's not pretty..

Woah! I took a chance and am a better man for it. I like exene's cover of this song too. I like emmylou's cover of "sweet old world " that was what drew me in. People generally don't like cover versions but, when done well, you can't get a nicer tribute to some artist who formed another. It's an awkward kiss.

I'll take Lucinda over anything Dylan did or does live since about '78! Don't pay to hear him......you'll hear vocally a frog. This is very pretty, nice acoustic, seems key is the comfortable C major.
+Math Person I'm not trying to cast a bad shadow on Bob Dylan. He is one of our great modern composers/musicians. I've been to see him 3 times and I still haven't seen Bob Dylan! First time he just got saved and came out in a sparkly suit that looked like the Grand Old Opry. (I love Grand Old Opry. That is NOT a ding on them). Dylan was going around in plain black right before that. So...I got the new "improved" Bob Dylan. The other time, he couldn't remember any words, but later I found out he'd been very ill. The last time my daughter and I drove 3 hours to see him & Willie Nelson touring. Willie blew it away. Dylan had someone in his band that sounded exactly like him. We watched and the kid was singing for Dylan. I won't be going to see Bob Dylan again. Will listen to my albums.

I just "dropped" Dylan about the same time, but what he did before that is unforgettable!
The difference between "covering" a tune and making it your own. . . sounds like she could've written it, herself.
